Elvis once said that Roy Orbison's voice was the most pure and perfect voice he had ever heard.
This song was probably written with Elvis in mind!
Elvis wasn't wrong
That's so awesome. I have always related the 2 of their voices to each other.
And he was right. ❤
.....THE CARUSO OF THE ROCK.....
Jeff Lynne is the most underrated musician of all time in my opinion
not if your a fan of ELO he's not
some of us rate him extremely highly.
Apparently he wrote a bunch of songs and produced others for the others
@@adriendecroy7254yes we do!
I believe you’re right
Roy's voice never fails to blow me away, even after all these years.
probably my favorite part of this song, honestly
Same ❤
all the other guys kinda sound like the same guy and then comes Roy 😁
I thought this was just a Roy Orbison song, searched his name because I didn't know the title, but nothing seemed likely, so I asked Google what the song was and hummed it. It worked perfectly.
I had completely forgotten that The Travelling Willburies existed! What a lineup, holy cow!
Was wondering if that was Roy Orbison
The way Orbison so effortlessly expresses sadness and longing always catches me off-guard. You are never ready for the power of that voice.
Well said!!😊
That childhood photo of him is haunting, too. He looked like he carried a lot of worries.
I was Blessed to see Roy live two times.. Including his last ever concert... yes.. so effortless , beautiful voice... I grew up listening to him.. incomparable.. God rest his soul

For all three, this band was a fitting way to sign off. Playing in a band with their best mates and legends. A shout out for Jim Keiltner on drums.
Long live Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne❤
❤❤❤❤❤
The definition of a Super Group. Harrison, Petty, Orbison, Dylan, Lynne. We were lucky to experience this.
next to the highwaymen
Если видели их вживую - поздравляю и по - хорошему завидую
I saw Petty in Concert 17 times. I was also lucky enough to go to the same college as his daughter and she gave me 4th row seats and I went backstage and smoked pot with her in his dressing room. I saw Dylan when he used to get pissed at the audience but he was still awesome. To the Petty family, love and respect.❤

Still listening to this in 2024 and still in awe of how great each of these artists were and are. To have them perform together for a short time as the Travelling Wilburys was pure music gold. Hard to believe that only Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan remain alive today of this wonderful troupe. The songs of George, Roy, Tom, Bob and Jeff and their legacies have and will remain long after them.
I know, right? That's the way I feel. "Death shall have no dominion"? Don't know about that. So sorry these men are gone. Gotta take solace in their recordings and live performances. But sheesh! Death sucks!

When George says “sweet smell of success” the smile on Roy’s face gets me every time!! RIP gents.
I had to go back and find this moment in the song....you are right, it is a 'gets me' moment.
The smile has an element of amused irony given that George was part of a group which had unparalleled success.
Me too. They absolutely loved each other. We shall not see they’re like again. Sadly.
I’m 72 and still get goosebumps listening to my musical heros doing what they’ve always done, putting an unforced smile on my face. R I P Roy, Tom and George, We miss you

The greatest singer-songwriter-guitarist quintet of all time.
Indeed!!
Hard to believe that Jeff Lynn and Bob Dylan are the only members of the TW's who are still with us. Harrison, Orbison, and Petty left us much too soon. This kind of 'patchwork quilt' of musicians was highly underrated, yet it was comprised of some of the most talented musicians that this world has ever seen, or ever will see. I hope these 'absent friends' are playing music together, wherever they may be. Long life to Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynn.

Who?
Roy had been through a decades-long dark period when this came along. What these guys gave him right before he died was an understanding of his rightful place...he was a great among the greats.
Oh yes! It will never be better!!!!!
Roy had a lot of hardships and heartaches in his life. It was great to see him at the top again before he passed. One of the greatest singers who ever lived. Truly the voice of an angel.
B Miller Such a lovely comment 😊
B Miller ......an astute (and perfectly accurate) observation and a lovely comment. I’m old enough to remember Roy’s personal tragedies, he said his music helped him “cope”. Even throughout Roy’s musically “lean” years, the man was *always* loved in Australia and toured here often. Despite not having released new material much less enjoyed a “Hit” song in many years, his concerts invariably sold out and I think that speaks volumes.
@@pleasantvalleypickerca7681 Amen! He had one of the most beautiful voices, we've ever been blessed to know--I could listen to Roy Orbison all day long. If you ever get the chance, check out his "Black and White Night" concert--it's great!😊⛪

The first show I saw The Beatles they were supporting act to the Big O. What an absolute delight. Those memories stay with you forever
I’m 62 always big Tom Petty fan always wanted to see him in concert sucks gone to soon great talent all of these guys
Roy Orbison - damn, that voice 👍
Just asking. But did Roy have a ponytail? It sure looked like it at the end. Thanks
@@davidhenry8983 Yep, he had one. But he hid it well :D
Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne's voice blend well together in the background vocals
You can tell he was blind, he doesn't realize how goofy ass he looks.
truly awesome voice
Roy's smile after George sings THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS IS PRICELESS!
Love this Song and this Band . What a amazing group of Musicians!!
2:42😁😁
I was thinking the exact same thing :-)
I know, right!
Witnessed at 2:40 (thanks John)
Why did tears come to my eyes when Roy began singing??
Soft - rock classic of the 80's - so underrated! - Sadly we lost Cristine !!! GOD BLESS!!! - Wellski! ❤❤❤
George had said if Elvis was alive they'd of asked him to join! Can you imagine?
That would be epic.
That would be epic.
Hell yes epic as hell
The Beatles turned Elvis into a dinosaur.

Roy had one of the most recognisable voices ever.
That's why he'll always be known as "The Voice".
Silky smooth.
And one of the most beautiful...he out shines all the rest here.
His octave range was unreal. Many singers don't have it.
So unique
So sad we lost three of the greatest artist of all time. Greatest band put together.
Roy's voice just gives me the chills. It's so oddly beautiful
A Beatle, A Nobel-Prize Winner, a voice that Elvis declared "the best on the planet"
...........AND Tom Petty.
STRATOSPHERE.
And Jim Keltner
Wow, which is which btw? 🤔
@@bengosling3838Well, pretty sure Tom Petty is Tom Petty
George Harrison is the Beatle, Bob Dylan is the Nobel Prize winner, and Roy Orbison was declared the best voice by Elvis… Tom Petty is obviously Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne from ELO (who was also in this group) was great too!!
True right hand s down .
Roy Orbison voice is like silk 🥰
Wow, could'not express it better
The QUALITY of Roys' voice is unmatched
He was their daddy!
Gives me tingling delightful insanity that makes me want to dance across the desert in the moonlight and the frozen tundra by day.
Right? Honestly none other like it!
This has to be THEE best ever super group ever. Absolutely effing amazing ❤️❤️
December 2023 these guys are Legends…… ❤️❤️🌹🌹
Roy orbison's voice was simply off this planet!!!
Elvis would never appear on the same stage as Orbison, he was that good.
I cannot confirm it as fact, but I believe Elvis was once interviewed and asked, what it felt like having the greatest singing voice ever?
Elvis relied... "I am not sure. Go and ask, Roy Orbison".
Southern class and incredibly humble.
I am 100% sure Elvis would have jumped in on this little sing along.
" Without a song. The day will never end"
My time will come to meet them. I hope!!
the "carouso" of rock
🤗🤗🤗
Roy is main reasons I've listened to this song four times in a row! His solo lines in this song flow so well!!!!
Was 19 years old when this song was released. I'm 56 now. Still sounds great after all these years. Thanks Wilburys, for making the 80's fun for me. 😊 💙💙💙💙💙 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I totally missed it back when it came out... didn't realize the wilburrys formed that long ago🤤
Happenstance, Serendipity.
Your math is a little off.
The Traveling Wilburys formed in 1988. George Harrison was the initiator. They didn't come into prominence, though, until the early 2000s. You can read about it on the googles. Yet again; 19 + 12 + 23 = 53. So Mr Walsh, you're still a young man at 54!😀
@@laurenrowell9251 I recall that Jeff Lynne from ELO was the guy who formed the band. Maybe that's just my assumption due to the fact that so many Travelling Wilburys songs have such an ELO groove to them. Like this one.
After a little googling it seems that Lynne was producing a George Harrison album and the two came up with the idea for the Travelling Wilburys during this project.
For Roy Orbison,4 legends,The best of music, better than the shit of now!!!
Talk obout advancing through the years with my ears closed, I didn't realise just how good George Harrisons voice was 😢.
