Around 1976 in the dark early morning I drove down Bondi Road [Sydney] toward the beach. The stars were tingling, the light of a twinkling ship was out to sea. The roads were extremely quiet anf this song was playing. It was simply an awesome feeling which I have never forgot !!!
I was in eighth grade, and our teacher played the radio during our reading time. This song came on, and it blew my mind. I was useless the rest of the day. It's that special.
When this was a hit I was a 20 yr old United States Marine on Okinawa. I had just received the dreaded "Dear John Letter" from my cute girlfriend back home in the States. I was heart broken.... that was 1975. Im 67 yrs old I still remember the pain. But, I've been happily married 41 yrs now.
The summer of 1975. I had just graduated HS and was on my way to College. this song came out and completely captivated my summer. To this day, when I hear this song, I go back to that summer of 1975. And it still brings tears to my eyes.
tears of joy I hope. I get melancholic for a much simpler time in my life, when I hear this song too, but it only brings back good memories when mom was still around, young and vibrant, and I was just a happy-go-lucky kid. The funny thing is that back then I always felt bad for the singer; thinking he must have felt really sad to perform a song like this. It was also the same year I would hear Terry Jacks seasons in the sun on the radio all the time. I guess we were all still mourning Vietnam back then.
I think this is the best version of this song available on RUclips even though it’s not all the original members. I really like his embellishment on the lead vocals.

There's a very good documentary about 10CC on RUclips. It's said that it took 3 weeks to get right and record the backing vocal for this song. A very talented band.
My God, they perform and sound as just as they did 40 years ago! This era is to be cherished as this level of talent will never be repeated and someday be a memory.
It's pretty amazing how much it sounds like the original studio version considering Graham Gouldman (the bass player) is the only member of this particular line-up that appeared on the original recording.
@@Sbrownlee I was going to say the lead singer is too young to be one of the original members but WOW what a voice. Great job. Sounds almost like the original version.
I have several......in the 70's, there was so many talented musicians that you could walk into any club or hotel lounge and hear awesome bands! When all of these great songs came out, they learned them and played them while they were still getting air play. They were so good that they sounded just like the record. Yes it is possible. Remember though the artists have had 48 years to refine, practice and prepare, and are using today's technology. What seems tough to believe is that this song was written that long ago, and has been giving me chills every time I hear it.
Jesteście cały czas wielcy i niepowtarzalni!!!
I was 16 and it was the best time of my life and I knew it then and appreciated it very much. I partied like a fool (I live in Fort Lauderdale Florida LOL talk about babes!) worked at a bar! Yes at 16 lol and drove a Dodge Charger… my first car. I don’t smoke any more, but remember weed was $20 an OZ! Rolled a joint from the rolling paper that came with Cheech and Chong Big Bambu album… 😂
Without rock & roll of the 1950s followed by the pop explosion and innovation of the 1960s the 70s would not have been there. It was evolution of the very best.
I can remember write it in the car with my mother when I first heard this song, roughly about the year 1975. Every time I hear it it always brings by those memories when things were so simple. The Sun shined brighter, the food tasted better, and life was so much simpler. Hell, things are so now different than they were back in the seventies, you can no longer see Saturday morning cartoons.
Aww man, I could listen to this song 1000000000000 times over and still never get tired of it! Some 48 years later and they still "fit in" ...yea don't see today's young punks making music like this anymore!!
This brings back such memories of hope and great times!! Flashes of scenes at the beach, going to the pool, movies, friends of all races, board games, spades, volleyball, basketball and cheating at Spades!! Young people listen up: it’s JUST LIKE the old people told me when I was 13!! Now I’m OLD and wondering where did the time go? How did I reach 60? 🤣🤣🤣 Time flies so make every day count.
Just discovered this live version...oh wow...this was posted 12 years ago and I'm finding it now at 2:30 in the morning....what a fantastic live sound, one of my favorites, I have a confession, I have always heard "be moist and quite" but its actually "big boys dont cry"....I still hear "be moist and quite"...to me its morbid as I'm imaginating being buried 6 foot down finally at peace....freed from love...but that's just me...;)

Fell in love, and we were married on the First Day of Spring 21 Mar 81. So the Dear John Letter back in 1975 was the best thing to happen to me

I graduated in 1973, was going steady with the person I would marry in 1977. He took my virginity, but after giving him 3’boys, he cheated on me and I kicked him out. I lost my home, inherited land, animals, but I kept my 3 boys. Was hell! Fast forward to now, our 3rd son got married. He and his wife were there. He finally apologized to me after 30+ years and said he made a mistake and never should have left me. I cried, we hugged. Some hurts can never be mended.

This song leaves me with a mysterious deep dark ache inside….
It’s beautifully composed….
Decades on and it still gives me goosebumps.
That, ladies and gentlemen is without doubt one of the best live performances you are likely to ever hear. It is Perfect!!
I agree another good live performance is heart with these dreams done in Seattle about ten years ago you'll know your watching the one im talking about annie has no shoes on they did alot of that song but the one in Seattle is breathtaking like this look it up peace from Brooklyn New York
Is it possible for this to be better than the studio version? Talk about perfection.
agreed... so few bands are able to catch the perfection of the studio version.... here they totally do.
Mick Wilson on vocals and guitar is magnificent...as are all the other musicians... professional and talented..
Mmmm yeah //
Yes, better
Yes it is possible. Remember though the artists have had 48 years to refine, practice and prepare, and are using today's technology. What seems tough to believe is that this song was written that long ago, and has been giving me chills every time I hear it.
@gregoire8376 Exactly...I couldn't agree more.
Jesteście cały czas wielcy i niepowtarzalni!!!
Nie jedyną :)
No eres la única. SALUDOS
hola..!!

Hard to believe! This song is 45 years ago. A piece of my heart.
It was a huge part of my life in the 70’s. I loved 10cc.
@@cherylmacgregor5650 Same here Cheryl
I hear you.
The year I was born. One of my favorites.
Oh a piece of mine also, Shhh were showing our age ..LOL..🤶☃️🎅🤫🤫🤫
I was 15 in 1975 and remember this very well, a much simpler time, I didn't know how good I had it ! This music brings me back,
Thank You all !!
Totally agree, happy days where has it all gone wrong?
I was 15 then aswell the era was good then happy times back then for me not like now
@@marcvitali5439 15, 10th grade, Los Angeles, 1975.

Utterly magical, spectacular performance. Beautiful voice and harmonies, not many truly talented bands like this anymore ❤
IF this song doesn't go for the heart.....what an incredible, INCREDIBLE song, this is total perfection!
In my lifetime the 70's has had the BEST music hands-down....
Truth!
You are correct, sir!
Without rock & roll of the 1950s followed by the pop explosion and innovation of the 1960s the 70s would not have been there. It was evolution of the very best.
@@grahamjones7328 Okay, because of evolution the 70's has had the best music but it has so far stopped there :)
Right...the 70's were great
I can remember write it in the car with my mother when I first heard this song, roughly about the year 1975. Every time I hear it it always brings by those memories when things were so simple. The Sun shined brighter, the food tasted better, and life was so much simpler. Hell, things are so now different than they were back in the seventies, you can no longer see Saturday morning cartoons.
Cartoons were deem violent, but letting criminals roam the streets is acceptable!
i suspect there is a fortune in bringing back what we recall was a great time
Beautiful, beautiful harmonies. Wonderful lyrics. I've been "not in love" a few times myself.
Aww man, I could listen to this song 1000000000000 times over and still never get tired of it!
Some 48 years later and they still "fit in" ...yea don't see today's young punks making music like this anymore!!
One of thee most under-rated bands and one of the most creative.
Amazing sound wonderful harmony
True dat
I think my sister was conseived to this song 😂
Absolutely agree!
My goodness!!! This song brings me back to a much simpler time. When you thought anything was possible….
This is so timeless!!!
Hello Eda how are you doing?
So alive, even to the old hearts that never die and live on forever. Sweet memories.
This song was so artsy when it came out. Still is! The harmonies are gorgeous. Well done!
The scurge of Manchester!
I never tire of this song. I'm 60 and remember falling in love with this when I was very young. Puts me in another place and time
Bennie, I'm 13 years older than you and I also love it. Gets me every time. Just a classic melody. I miss when they made good music
Ha me 2

Couldn't agree more, I'm 63 and this is one of my favourite teen growing up songs.
One of my favourite growing up songs, music like this stays with you all your life.
I would never expect that someone could pull off this song so well, performing live. Great song.
I agree...they performed it perfectly...amazing band , amazing and timeless song .
Boy, I'll tell you what. Seriously nailed it. What memories.
ok but who are these guys actually? I only see Graham Gouldman from 10cc, otherwise it looks like a cover band.
One of the greatest songs ever!!!
This was my thought, considering the technical tricks they had to pull off to create the original.
Just discovered this live version...oh wow...this was posted 12 years ago and I'm finding it now at 2:30 in the morning....what a fantastic live sound, one of my favorites, I have a confession, I have always heard "be moist and quite" but its actually "big boys dont cry"....I still hear "be moist and quite"...to me its morbid as I'm imaginating being buried 6 foot down finally at peace....freed from love...but that's just me...;)
U.r.mest up
I AM IN LOVE.
I was slow dancing to this in my mid teens.
This never gets tired.
I agree, never gets old. BUT when this was hit I was stationed at Camp Foster Okinawa when I was in the US Marine Corps. My girlfriend sent me a "Dear John Letter" I was heartbroken 💔
@@usmc-veteran7316 how many years ago was that?! Seems like a really long time ago, my friend… Please tell me that you got over your heart ache? 🤷♀️☺️
@julieyoutu it was 1975. I finished my 4 yrs in the Marine Corps in 1977. After that, I dated a lot of girls. Leap Year Evening, 29 Feb 80, I went out on a "Blind Date." Fell in love, and we were married on the First Day of Spring 21 Mar 81. So the Dear John Letter back in 1975 was the best thing to happen to me
@@usmc-veteran7316 YAY🤌❣️ Your story is as romantic as this song is. Good for you 🤌🤗 I wish you continued happiness and thank you for your service! (Even though I’m Canadian 🤭)
The song is TIMELESS! Damn, I wish I could back to 1975
I know what you mean, the Summer of 75 was wonderful. I was just 19, and some events seem like yesterday.
1975 was a very good year. The best!
Me too
I graduated in 1973, was going steady with the person I would marry in 1977.

I lost my wife of 46 years and listening to this makes me cry for her.

Woke up to this song
Memories off pass loves but there was only one that lifted me off the ground and moved mountains, during that time with her we never said i love you to each other,
Boundless we went our separate ways in the end, we knew that we where deeply and insanely in love ......

So sad.,
So beautiful!
We, big Boys from 70's

We wish 70's never end...
Yep, I'm in that club. Now I'm an old boy in the 2020's (not my eyes though)
My feelings exactly..
I was in my 20’s in the 70’s now I’m 70 in the 20’s.....
Are tears of the soul ..
Yeah. Sorta. But I was 19 when this song came out and blew everyone away. Good memories, but I'm much happier and wiser than the kid I was in those years. Man did I do some stupid stuff.
I remember moving the record needle to listen to this over and over. Beautiful music, beautiful memories of wonderful days.
💖
Hi Diane, a lot easier to play repeat now but maybe not so engaging. Worth all the effort though for a song like this!!! Awesome voice and music!
That made me smile.....
What's a record needle? Is that REcord or reCord? jk 😀😀 I even remember putting a nickle on the hand to stop the record from skipping. Good days, good memories.
Absolutely outstanding
And such a lovely song with great lyrics. Those voices are pure emotion and such pure harmonies. I’ve always loved this song. A true classic that will always played

I'm 59 too. This sounds as fresh as the first time it hit my heart.
I turned 60, listening to this now is bringing tears to my eyes " be quiet, big boys don't cry"........................
loved this song, so long ago, never realized how handsome this guy was til now!
While watching, be sure to remind yourself: this is live. They're making it sound like this, *live* on stage.
The multi voices are recorded . No need to get that excited mate...
I figured there's a backing track, but they are harmonizing well and the lead singer sounds fantastic.
Well, Lol Creme is on record as stating that it's the best track that he's ever had the pleasure of being involved with, so I suppose that it holds a pretty special place in all of their hearts...and why not?
There is a video, a rather good one, about the making of this song that explains in detail how they did the backing track.
Magic!!!
Who's listening to this beauty in 2020?
In korea
In Cologne
NYC, NY
In India
