I cry like a baby every time I watch this movie. Especially when his son points the gun at him near the end. Soloman's unwavering resolve to get his son back is absolutely beautiful. As a father myself I would go to the end of time for my family.
The cows wait for you 😭😭
The conversation he and Archer have while walking together in the wilderness always interests me.
To Solomon, family is everything, while Archer has neither thought nor cared about having a family.
One of the best movies of the 2000’s
This movie really made me look at my jewelry differently & the what the value and cost of a diamond really was.
It's a strange dichotomy. It's basically a monopoly, if you don't go through one of the big 3 diamond companies it's called a Blood diamond.
Like say a poor villager found a diamond tomorrow, he can't actually sell it, in fact if he tries to sell it he will be arrested.
It needed to happen to stop the kind of scenes in this movie but at same time it's stripped everyday Africans of the right to sell a diamond they find and lift themselves out of poverty.
Like a catch-22.
@@noelienoelie8425 And the most sickening part of it all is that we can now make diamonds to a quality that nature never could. We can make perfect diamonds in the lab.. Make them whatever color you want too.. But then that's not the point. The point is to own something no one else can get.
@@dnrob7 Such is the human way it seems, just look at those nft things.
I've watched this movie 10+ times and it makes me cry everytime. And here I am watching a reaction tearing up again.
Breaks my fucking heart
Archers death really struck me…when he’s dying you can see him grab a handful of dirt 27:49. This is a reference to when he was talking to the colonel earlier in the flim 8:34. Archer truly never left africa.
Man, one of my personal favorites. I still remember seeing this in theaters with my dad. Djimon Honsou, who played Solomon, immediately became one of my favorite actors of all time. Says so much when you can out-act DiCaprio, and I believe he did.
The beginning village raid scene is exactly how 95% of all African slaves were captured, rival African tribes /clans raiding their village in the night to take them as slaves to the slave trading posts on the coast that the arabs had set up millennia before.
Same guy who made Last Samurai. Brilliant director.
Wow I looked up Edward Zwick. He made Glory too!
How tf did I not know that? 🤔
Or maybe I did know & just simply forgot! 🙃🙂
Cried the first time I watched it. Now that I have 2 kids of my own I cry even harder. I feel this guys parental pain way too hard. One of my favorites in my favorite channel. Thank you man!🙏🏽
I would recommend Beast of No Nation, but that film is even harder to stomach than this one. Great movie, great reaction!
I love that movie
Oh, I forgot to mention that one of the songs played in this film (during the scene where the RUF celebrates the siege of Freetown, called Baai) features the rapper Emmanuel Jal, who was a child soldier who survived and became a musician. Amazing artist, thought you might appreciate that.
Correction: it was during the montage of the RUF training the child soldiers and giving them drugs, not the Freetown siege. Nonetheless, the juxtaposition of such a lovely song with the horror occurring in the scene was a stroke of genius.
I don’t think any channel has reacted to this absolutely incredible movie ❤️✌️
Djimon Hounsou is such a good actor! I think he is one of the best actors of our generation. If you haven't watched Amistad, you really should do it. Hounsou plays Cinque, an African Mende tribesman who is captured by slavers and sent to Cuba (owned by Spain at the time). The slaves revolt, killing the slavers, but have no idea where they are or how to get back to Africa. The ship drifts until it's picked up by the US Coast Guard. The movie is the story of the legal battle for what to do with them and their status. Are they people or goods that can be salvaged and resold? The US Supreme Court ended up resolving the case in 1841.
This film deserves nothing less than a 10+++. In my opinion, this is Leonardo DiCaprio's greatest work. I've met and worked with several South Africans and spent some time with refugees who were rescued from the RUF and groups like them. His accent was spot on. Also, these poor kids are never the same. If you wish to see another film, based on true events, which touches on the subject of child soldiers check out Machine Gun Preacher.
This is definately one of my favorite movies. Leo's acting in this movie is incredible.
It's a little bit underrated movie . This is a phenomenal film with full of phenomenal actors . One of my favourite. Your reaction was great man ! Really enjoyed it. 🙂😎
Best movie that I have ever watched only once. Leo and Djimon should have gotten Oscars.
Man I remember seeing this a long time ago and it being so hard to watch knowing shit like that actually happens to kids and people. Really makes you think and appreciate the gift of a peaceful life
When he dies on the hill in the end is the only time I've ever teared up in any film ever.
This is one of my favorite movies!! OMGGGG smh being African it’s so deep watching this. A lot of the wars there is because of their raw materials it is so sad. This movie and Hotel Rwanda are must sees so that you can know the history.
A movie that flies under the radar is Hotel Rowanda, Don Cheadle and Joaquin Phoenix, Got an 8.1 IMDb rating, True story sad story, but also heroic
How the hell did Leo not win an Oscar for his performance?
His movie "The Departed" which came out the same year won many awards :) also "The Prestige" came out the same year and won a lot.
I highly recommend Sometimes in April! It is a great movie, and its similar to this movie, and it might make you cry.
Another great movie Choice. you're going to absolutely love this movie.
I think you’d really dig falling down with Michael Douglas. One of the best movies out the 90s
I second this!
I third! One of Robert DuVall’s best movies
Is that the movie the foo fighters based there music video of "Walk" on?
@@firewarrior5828 yea that be it!
@@markl4781 I thought so
Danny was a former Rhodesian light infantry veteran. Then immediately after that worked as a military contractor I'm conflicts all over Africa
I saw this at the cinema at 20 not knowing anything about it. On a first date with a girl I met the week before. Half way through the film I forgot she was even there next to me. I tried my hardest not to tear up in front of her on the first date. But when he dies on the hill at the end I couldn't hang on any longer. We ended up together for years after.
Oh my God it was so hard for me to watch this movie!! I literally only watched it 1 1/2 times because I couldn’t get through the 2nd time. I was on edge watching this reaction.
It's one of my favorite movies. If you're interested in seeing the real warlords of this time period, you should check out the documentary: Cannibal Warlords of Liberia. It's on RUclips and it shows in more detail of these kid soldiers and one of the most hated men in the wars, General Buttnaked.
This movie is Extremely Poweful and uncovers some of the Evils of the world... the most moving part is when Simmons holds the diamond to the light as Solomon embraces his family...
It's always a good day when Devin uploads
My father is a jeweller - middle class. He makes rings mostly. I remember when I was a kid, it was a way before this movie come out, when he told me: "I'm always wandering what lives were took and what happened in general, so I can forge that little thing into that shiny metal". My father and my mother never wore any jewellry. And he did not liked it when my sister wanted one.
EDIT: It's our way of life defines more lifes that we can imagine.
You should watch Amistad. It stars Djimon Hounsou. And a cast with too many stars to mention. It is a true story about a mutiny on a slave ship. It’s an incredibly powerful film.
This movie had such an effect on me I bought it and have watched it so many times. It's been a few yrs since I have seen it. It was different now that I am older and more mature. Such a powerful movie.
The fact that DeCaprio was in this and The Departed in the same year and didn't win best actor is ridiculous
I am a proud Rhodesian and Leonardo Dicaprio's representation of us was spot on
This movie changed me. I picked up A Long Way Gone after this. Child Soldiers, blood diamonds, the rape of Africa. Its devastating.
This is Leo's like top 5 best roles right here. He killed it.
This movie was a lot better than I thought it would be. 2 great characters.
This was/is a great film.
You really need to watch his movie “the revenant” the movie that won him the Grammy awards
He should have won one for this movie
Agreed
@@prollins6443 that could be said about a lot of his films tbh
Love this movie, does a great job of showing how bloody the world of gems is, also love Leo's character his character gives you a small glimpse of how brutal the rhoadeisan bush war was.
Great reaction Rockstar. Keep grinding these fucking gems out. 🇺🇸
This is one of my favorite movies. By far my favorite Leo film.
you keep hitting up bangers almost everyday now. keep it up bro. this is dope
I love this movie. Brilliant acting from Leo, Djimon and Jennifer.
This movie is underrated it's not a masterpiece or anything but it's it's doesn't get the recognition it deserves I feel
27:48 R.I.P Arthur Morgan...
The guy who directed Blood Diamond also directed The Last Samurai. Edward Zwick has quite a good body of work as a director.
Yeah Legends of the Fall is my favorite movie of his.
This was my first partial viewing of this film and it appears that Dicaprio delivers a stellar performance as usual. But my favorite of all of Leo's films is by far 'The Revenant!'
Leo's character ... there are situations like this happening again after the 15+ year gap this movie begins from. Please look up Serpentza. He actually grew up in some hard areas in SA. Never met him but I spent 18months in Joburgg as a kid around the same time.
This is in my top 3 movies ever. I watch it least once every 6 months. Great reaction.
Devin, if you haven't already read it check out the book A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. It's about a child solider in Africa who managed to escape and become a refugee to the US. If you like this movie, you'd like that book probably.
Yet another role where Leo was robbed of his rightful Oscar.
Still going on to this day with other precious elements.
Shutter Island is Leo’s best performance IMO.
Wow, are you kidding me - I just saw it on TV yesterday! Incredible movie.
One of my favorite movies for sure. Great reaction.
Phenomenal film, one I revisit quite often. I knew you'd like this one, being its impossible to not.
This is one of my favorites and Leo became one of my favorite actors because of this movie!
Please react to Tears Of The Sun. You would love it I guarantee. Another great underated movie is The Power Of One.
I think he did react to that awhile back 🤔... it might another one of those "copyright problems."
But I could be wrong.😅
Agreed, aye.
Absolutely terrible film 😆😆😆😆
One of my favorite movies ever
It is one of Leo's best and very underrated.
Loves your reactions bro!
This and tears on the sun bro.. love those movies
Yes! Love this film!!
One of my all time favorites. Great film
This movie is heavy in a lot of different ways.
Another great reaction!
27:15 this scene has inspired many Airsoft clone builds.
I love this movie. Very underappreciated.
Man sounds like jinx the old RUclips reactor that had a funny ass laugh and duke Dennis w all the boa and boy😂
Man, they putting you on some bangers lately
Terrific performances all around. Terrific movie.
@Devin G I would love to see your reactions towards Bruce Lee movies from the 1970s he was the best GREATEST martial arts fighters ever 🤗❣️💗💖💗❣️💌💕💞💓❤️💝💘♥️💖💗❣️💌💕💞💓❤️💝💘♥️.
R.I.P Bruce Lee 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.
*Legends of the Fall* with *Brad Pitt* is another great movie by this same director
Denzel, LEO, Daniel day Lewis best 3 actors ever in my opinion
This, Glory, the last samurai and Defiance are my favorite movies by this director
Brilliant movie and reaction to match 👊🇬🇧
That black guy is such a good actor
Hit the like button you mooches!
Great reaction as always Devin
oh yeeeeah... i've been recommending this one for a while! it's a good one for sure!
Absolutely brilliant film, love it.
This movie is a bromance before it was a thing
2:00 You are American. The world is harsh. That is why we have you as a beacon of freedom
My all time favorite movie!!
Love This Content
What a banger, love this movie.
First movie I saw in the theater where the audience clapped afterward
27:00 We all cry. Ja ja.
Very underrated movie..
Just curious Devin but why do we keep getting reuploads when we can get newer movies I just noticed we've seen you react to a few of these?
A lot of Nigerian soldiers lit up a shit load of the RUF around 2003 pretty much ending the civil war them and the British.
Tears are coming.
This is in my top Leonardo DiCaprio movies.
I am using him, and you are using me. This is how it works.
That is such a violent line
one of the best movies
18:00 bro wtf? Were you watching the movie at 5am or stopped watching the movie at night and continued the next day. Because the background went from dark to daylight
Good eye. I didn't notice
Tears of the sun is also a great movie about war in africa
Please do Enemy of the state with Will Smith and Gene Hackman. Great movie
Yeah, excited for this one. 😁
