  • Hello friends,
This was a brilliant but extremely tough movie.
Brilliant acting especially by Djimon Hounsou!
For obvious reasons I cried during editing as well.

I think this is a very hard movie to watch because it is based on horrific true-life events from the past that are still happening in other countries today. But I appreciate your commitment to selecting this worthwhile movie for your channel, and your heartfelt, thoughtful reaction to the story it told. I also really enjoyed your insightful comments on the characters from your perspective as an Afrikaner. You explained so many things that I would have never noticed since I have never been to Africa. Thank you, Lezy. Well done!
Also, thank you for taking the time to teach us the correct pronunciation of your first name. I was close, but my translation of Afrikaans consonants was a little bit off. :)

My pleasure William, it was extremely hard to watch, but glad it gave some different insights 🤗 and something I just had to check up afterwards that bothered me quite a lot, was the Cheetah, as there are not supposed to be Cheetahs in that side of the country, those animals are not bush area type animals, they need the open planes of Savannah as they cannot reach the speed they need in the bush like they would in the open Savannah
Leopards may survive there, but definitely not Cheetahs.
Glad my name pronunciation helped 🤗😄😃😀

A few things in this movie were done perfectly but 1 thing that always stuck out to me and if it wasn’t done perfectly it would have looked I don’t know awkward or not genuine - when Solomon & Simmons exchange diamond/money/Solomon’s family at the end. Solomon doesn’t even look at him. Eyes focused on the plane. Literally makes the exchange without even looking at Simmons, the diamond or the money. Powerful moment

My mother's best friend always lived in South Africa, when Apartheid took place, during the night, well... they are lucky to be alive. Just left everything behind and run, eventually they managed to come home in Italy. Their son is a good friend of mine, he was a kid but still remembers Afrikaans. Sometimes when the topic comes up, I can see horror on his face. I never asked the details, and I will never.

my dad is american and worked for the us government for years in africa as an attache. I showed him this movie about five years after it came out and he immediately placed Leo’s accent as Zimbabwean, so i guess Leo did a pretty good job with it.

Those two films are what single-handedly changed my opinion of Leo as an actor. He had been in plenty of great movies and great acting performances prior to these 2 movies, but for some reason i still thought of him as a teen/young-adult heart-throb, and was better actor than the average heart-throb, but at the end of the day had yet to transcend into the ranks of being a legit great actor - period. But then i saw these two flicks, and for some reason it just clicked for me, as i now consider him to be one of the top ten greatest actors of all time! This is the exact same sorta thing that happened with both Val Kilmer and Brad Pitt as well. Guys who were just the hot guy actor and nothing much beyond that, but then i saw "Kilmer in "Heat," "The Doors," and "Tombstone" and for Pitt is was "Fight Club," "Troy," and "Snatch" that completely changed my opinion on the two. Now i think of both of them the same as i do Leo, being in the top ten greatest of all time!. "Blood Diamond" and "The Departed" aren't just great cuz of Leo though, both of those films are absolutely brilliant as a whole. Going back to Leo's performances in these 2 movies specifically - I think they are without question Leo's best performances and it's an effin crime that he didn't win an Oscar for either role. It's funny that it took him until "The Revenant" to finally take home best actor, because though the movie and his acting were great - no doubt, but there are at least 5 other performances that topped it imo. Firstly it's the two i just mentioned, followed by his roles in "Inception," "Shutter Island," and "Catch Me If You Can"

Man I know that the situation in SA is insane 😮recently I read from SA girl that many white peoples were moving from there and today I confirming the big problem
Since Nelson Mandela we’re freed until today the country has been ruled by black peoples right. At the beginning was the ANC,now there are 3 big parties and a bunch of different parties fighting for rule the country and one of their premises is fighting for the land. I remember that Zimbabwe had that situation, they were killing the farmers and after that the country suffered famine for years. They are erasing the past, destroying cities, their history with your hate against the whites. I know a lot Africa history and I’m gonna give you an example:Angola was a Portugués colony and started his independence war that finished in 1974 right? In 1975 the Civil war and SA war started at the same time and tons of Cubans flocked the country. Many professional people, doctors, teachers engineers were there trying to lift the country for 15 years. Many Angolan studied in Cuba and the results ?😮😮😮😮😮 nothing. Like Angola are many African countries, the problem is in the continent. Over the years many organizations are funding money and food for Africa. The science trying to control plagues and deseases all the time. All the time the continent is consumed by étnica and tribal wars, millions are dispersed like in the movie and every body blaming the colonizers. “They “ claiming their country but who are they?. The situation is critical
