This is a movie that requires two viewings to properly enjoy. Once to watch the movie and once again to watch it knowing what you know after the first watch through.
Nah, I figured out he was blind about halfway through. Lots of tells.
@@bigguy7353😑
@@bigguy7353 cool not everyone did smh
Some people figured it out. I am so glad that I didn't. That hit me just as hard as the twist in the 6th sense.
I've noticed that this movie gives you way more hints at the truth then the 6th Sense did. Its like EVERY scene has a subtle clue.
@@bigguy7353 less obvious than sixth sense.. I didn't get it but I knew there was a hook that I was missing
Whats tragic is that Book of Eli is not a movie that would be made today. The emphasis on the power and meaning of the bible tends to be shut down by the Hollywood types. Praise God in the highest.
Sad but true.
I disagree. It wouldn’t be made today because of money. Even in 2010 it got mixed reviews and mid level financial success.
This is a really good movie but don’t try to make it out to be something it is not and was not… one of the biggest compliants about this movie in 2010 but this idea of a black man to be the “holder” of Gods word and that the Bible version was called book of Eli
@mzhappyfree7688 what the hell is you on about?
Always liked how he backed into the tunnel for the first fight so he could hear their echos
When Eli told the old cannibal couple that he didn't see the sign, he meant it 😂
Truly one of the great underestimated films of our time and not given enough credit in my opinion.. stellar performance by Denzel.. great reaction Devin 😁👍🇦🇺
Denzel Washington is great in everything, must say my tops are Remember the Titans and both Equalizer movies.
@@chrisgriffin4803 Man on fire and American gangster though
@Justin Freitag idk how I forgot that one lol
True all those are amazing movies.
The minute details in this are insane. After the first watch, go back through it and it becomes crystal clear, a blind man reacting to what is given, sound, smell, touch. It’s when he arrives at the couples home in the desert, they tell him they have a no trespassing sign and he responds he hasn’t seen it. So many genuinely brilliant details in this movie. Denzel is beyond goat level in acting and as a dude. Just a great actor in a great role in a great film.
Yes, even like the detail when they go to the old couple's house and when asked about the No Trespassing sign, he states "No, I didn't SEE it" - great diaglogue.
@@firsttimr There's pretty much a detail like that in every scene, that's what makes it so great to rewatch. Even the first scene where Eli is hunting the cat has a subtle clue - it's completely silent apart from the wind and Eli only fires his bow after the cat takes an audible breath...
That's when you realize on the rewatch that Eli was hunting by sound because that's the only way he could tell the cat was even there.
I love when he backs into the tunnel, where you can hear his voice amplify as he says "kill him" - He's luring them in there so that he can hear their position better. With the cat in the beginning and at the house as well, you can hear him clicking his tongue, he's doing this as a form of echolocation (the location of objects by reflected sound) by listening to the differences in sound movement. For example, click your tongue and listen to it's sound, then hold your hand up about 3-5in from your mouth and do it again, and listen to the difference. That's why blind people tap their canes against the ground when they walk around; Ray Charles used a special type of shoe that created a louder sound when walking so he could hear better, and more clearly.
Nono, Denzel is not "beyond "goat" level", he's a great actor.
He's no Clint Eastwood, Robert Duvall or Morgan Freeman, but he's great.
@@OriginalPuro I disagree entirely, Denzel is one of the most solid dudes in Hollywood. Full stop, a great. You can be wrong, it’s fine, but it is what it is.
I love this movie. I’ll never understand why it didn’t do well with critics. And the reason they check hands is because the cannibals are infected with Kuru disease. It’s a prion folding disease caused by eating human brains and spinal columns. First sign is tremors.
Not to get political but I think the subject matter is considered controversial these days and probably played some role in the reviews.
@@robcd7112 I mean the movie is over 10 years old… but yeah maybe
Oh shit okay, I never understood that part. That would also explain why the old lady's hands were trembling when she brought them tea.
@@Cyber_Samurai20 Yep.
@@GriffinatorOriginal
It's the small bits of world-building that really shine. Like how Eli explained the burning of the books and how everyone blamed that for the war which would also explain why the generation after in the new world didn't know how to read and so forth.
Waited your whole youtube career for this moment. One of my favorite movies of all time!
This time is now!💪🏿
they make people hold their hands out straight to check if the stranger is a cannibal, because if you consume human meat regularly, you start to get shaky, so they wanna see if his hands are stable, he's not a cannibal
Love this movie so much, I think it’s highly over hated and underrated, most didn’t see it, and those who did must not have paid attention because half the complaints I see from people is that “it’s shoving religion down people’s throats” when the whole premise is about how even Eli who seems to be the chosen one, is also making bad choices in terms of morality when he left multiple people behind and refused to help others, and mostly salara. Case in point him literally watching a man get killed in front of his wife or sister or whatever and she ends up getting attacked and raped and all Eli did was watch because it wasn’t his story, but after taking care of salara I’m sure he realizes those people didn’t HAVE to die. This movie is much deeper than one would think, it’s beautifully shot and the score is amazing. The choreography and acting is top tier especially carnagie who was an absolute menace throughout
Leftists think t-shirts that say "Jesus Saves" are shoving religion at them. Wackos.
Weird to call this shoving religion down your throat. Im an atheist, not a fan of religion but was in no way bothered by this movie, in fact I really liked it. Its a fictional story, presented as fictional, in fact I could see a lot of religious people being offended that they are adding a prophet to the bible...
I just see it as a story based around the themes of the bible, but never remotely felt preached to or anything. Its not like a "Christian movie" the way movies are that are made by Christians to push their beliefs.. (like Gods not dead, for instant).
@@luminousdragon I enjoyed that despite the religious tones the villian explicitly wants the book not for faith but power clearly showing the difference on how people can use faith. It can inspire us to be our best selves or be used for corruption and power
Yep funny how people have no problems with a movie if the hero gets superpowers from a magic ring or a nuclear accident or even an ancient religion but as soon as the bible is involved they get angry. I'm an agnostic and have issues with any form of organized religion. But just like watching iron man I can enjoy a great movie whether it aligns with my beliefs or not.
@@ianjardine7324 Why don't you explain how every bible in the country got disappeared, lol, was it magic or Satan or something. Maybe a bomb that only destroys books?
Most ridiculous premise ever.
Denzel really pulls his own weight when he does action. Along with Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise, it's inspiring seeing these older actors still put in a lot of training for a role.
great movie with an awesome twist of an ending. the fact that they revealed in the end he was blind the entire time blew my mind.
Spoilers bro 😢
I was in ahh. I wouldn’t have never known. He moved like he wasn’t
@Devin G if you rewatch it there are very subtle hints, like him bumping into tables n what not.
He wasn't blimd
Eli had vision thru God's eyes who set him on this path to re-establish his Word ( Bible ).
He was under God's Grace through out his journey , Redridege , Carnegies top guy didn't shoot Eli
when he had the chance he just let him walk away he knew he was special, he knew he was under
God's providence .
The cat scene has Devin rethinking his dinner over there. All states of grief, went from times got to be hard to hunt cat😐 to that cat look like chicken😳
That cat did look familiar 🤣😳
Great reaction. I love this movie because it describes not just Christianity, but how people can twist something good a make it evil. For instance, the bad guy wanted to use the book to control people (which any religion or belief can be warped to do) and that is not what it was meant for nor what Jesus wanted. You see that today people using religion or a belief to control others which is sad. He wanted people to free to redeem themselves (why Jesus took in sinners,). Also, Eli finally realized he got so caught up in protecting it that he forgot the lesson. Do more for others than you do for yourself. I love that Mia Kunis took up his mantle at the end too. She aided him and helped on his mission. She truly was good woman as was her mom. Showing that it isn't just man, but man and women together making a better world. I love that her mom's face changed feeling the book. The slight smile told it all. She knew what she read and knew what evils the bad guy would do with it. feeling the book..
You can see it with the woke cultists.
yea , im christian and atheists love blaming religion for the actions of people since they cannot take accountability themselves.
One of the most underrated movies EVER!!! Watch it again, now that you’ve seen it, and you get so much more out of it👍🏻 Great reaction!!
When it came out, a former coworker described this movie to me as "Fallout: The Movie." After seeing it myself, I would say it's like Mad Max with hope.
You have a much better description of the movie. Quick and to the point, even if you only saw one of the many Mad Max movies.
I hope you don't mind, but I will use your description, if anyone asks me about the Book of Eli.
@@paulharvey1947 Go for it.
Not just a good movie.
Not just a great movie.
This is an Important movie...
important?
My mother was blind, and had a braille Bible. It took up an entire book shelf!
Each letter has to be like a quarter of an inch tall to be able to feel the dots. You can only print on one side of the page as well. So, to print the whole thing in braille takes VOLUMES!
Thank you, I've been arguing that point since the movie came out, lol.
@@FloridaMugwump he could of had multiple volumes and lost them over time
@@DarthChosen It's possible that he had the entire book memorized and was only carrying Genesis.
@@FloridaMugwump I think I remember at the end it's said or implied he has it memorized. I THINK** it's been years since I've watched it
@@imnotawasteoftime Yes, he memorized it, but was probably only carrying the book of Genesis. If he memorized the whole Bible, then he was more valuable than the book he was carrying.
Similar to Fahrenheit 451.
I have always seen this film as both praising faith and warning against it. On one hand it was the reason for his mission and on the other hand others sought it because they knew they could use it to expand their power and control.
I love this movie. Denzel and Gary Oldman gives tremendous performances here. It’s such a unique concept for an apocalyptic movie. I’ve seen it a few times and I always notice something that I missed in other watchings. Enjoyed your reaction. I really love this movie.
The man who's arm got chopped off, he looks at him and says "you, see". You think he's delirious but in reality he either notices Eli is blind, or the phrase has double meaning, as on you See right through me or who I am and what he's done. It's like at the end he is filled with grace. They all seem to be in a daze and look at him with reverence right before they die. The other man who gets impaled with his "sword of justice " seems to even fall to his knees in prayer and dies in that position. This movie truly feels like a biblical tale, and most biblical stories are brutal af
Denzel and Gary Oldman put on a masterclass in acting on this one. Plus did y'all catch the symbolism of the first fight? How he brought them under the bridge and into the dark.
For some reason i was only getting audio out of my left ear piece on my headset... O.O
That being said, the Main Theme Song for this album gives me chills ALL the time! Absolutely one of my favorite movies and soundtracks, alongside Interstellar.
Once you learn he's blind, and you go back and watch the movie again. You'll see every single little detail that illustrated that fact. Tiny things that were overlooked because we all do something similar, something tiny.
That's called a score, not a song. And I figured out he was blind halfway through. Lots of tells, especially when he only reacts when a sound is made, and he misses shots when he can't hear.
im only getting audio from the movie and not him
Same here. Mic audio only in the left ear
"Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the strength and the conviction to complete the task you entrusted to me. Thank you for guiding me straight and true through the many obstacles in my path. And for keeping me resolute when all around seemed lost.
Thank you for your protection and your many signs along the way. Thank you for any good that I may have done, I'm so sorry about the bad. Thank you for the friend I made. Please watch over her as you watched over me.
Thank you for finally allowing me to rest. I'm so very tired, but I go now to my rest at peace. Knowing that I have done right with my time on this earth. I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith."
I love how when Eli is shot at it hits the backpack. But it doesn't hit Eli. The book holds the Bible. His protection.
There's some scenes in this movie where the audio is specific to the left or right speaker to highlight what Eli is hearing and out of which ear, usually involving gunfire.
Denzel Washington is my all time favorite actor, next to Morgan Freeman. He did a superb job in Crimson Tide.
Al Green "how can you mend a broken heart". Good catch, G
crazy I was just thinking the other day that none of the people im subbed to have watched this yet
and here you are. perfect timing my man, great reaction as always
A little easter egg in this movie. When Eli(Denzel) is trying to leave that town and Carnegie(Gary Oldman) is giving that speech. Eli(Denzel) uses echo location with tongue clicks to count how many men was in front of him. You have to turn your volume up pretty high. It happens quick but I believe its when Carnegie(Gary Oldman) says "Is that thing loaded" and Eli(Denzel) replies "One way to find out." Right after he says that are the clicks. Thought that was a sneaky rewatch gem they hid in the movie.
Thank you so much for your reaction to this movie! Loved it every bit of the way!
I understand why Training Day gets the love that it does. But this is my favorite Washington movie. Thanks for reviewing it. 👍
In my opinion the most underrated movie ever made.
The scriptwriter/producer of this film (Gary Whitta) also wrote a really awesome book called Abomination. It's inspired by The Thing and set in Medieval England. It's about an insane priest making abominations out of dead pigs and stuff, so the King Of England has a crew of men established to hunt them down. You can tell who they are because anybody wounded by an abomination never heals. So these men are always all bloodied up and constantly changing their bandages.
What's great about this film, is once you know he is blind and watch it again you can spot the signs of him being blind. Examples such as him feeling for the boots on the guy hanging in the closet, stepping under the overpass so he can hear them better, him accidentally bumping the cat, and not shooting the guy standing in the middle of the street because he never heard him fire a shot.
Figured it out halfway through. Lots of tells.
I concur with your assessment of Denzel being the best actor at this time.
Jennifer Beals is an underrated actress. I loved her role in this, especially when she was "reading" the book. The way that her face lights up, that her strength returns as she knew that she had power over him at last.
Great reaction Devin G. One of the best movies of all time. Lots of messages in that one.
This is easily in my top list of movies, great reaction my dude 😲🤙🏼
This is one of my favorite movies. So many messages, so many twists and turns.
YES!!!! Great movie!!! I always wished they made a sequel following Mila Kunis's journey east!! 💘
Fingers crossed
I wish they would, Mila would make for a good protagonist in the post-apocalypse. Use what Eli taught her
This is one of the best movies, I love it. Glad you checked it out, fire reaction as always
Wonderful movie! I've watched it several times. Love your reaction!
"The shakes" come from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, aka Mad Cow (bovine version). It comes from misfolded proteins called prions, specifically of the nervous system. The formation of prions are rare, but it's spread by consumption of infected nervous system tissue like brains and spinal nerves. So for people who eat people who ate people (like some tribal funerary practices), the odds of having it increase exponentially.
Having CJD is a good sign of someone being a cannibal who eats cannibals who ate cannibals, but it's not by any means certain to happen from or caused by cannibalism.
Wowww! I appreciate you explaining that.
@@deving9793 Any time, battle.
The melody that bald dude keeps whistling is a theme from "Once upon a time in America" - one of the most criminally underrated films in US history!
Bro , finally u got to this movie, I’ve been waiting patiently

The new Magnificent Seven, with Denzel Washington is a must watch bro, EPIC
The original is better.
Yooo, the excitement i felt seeing this pop up, man. One of my favorite movies ever! Denzel is an absolute badass as always. Hey, if you've never seen Reign of Fire, that's a good one i recommend, got some great action and Matthew Mcconaughey being a BEAST! Great reaction as always, much love D.
This is a very underrated action movie. Very well done
Wow, you sing good, man. "What makes the world go ro-aound! Damn near perfect, man.😮
I think the archivist DID print multiple copies. That looked like a platen press. It's good for printing one page at a time... So you print each page repeatedly, then recompose the moveable type for the next page, and print that repeatedly, and so on. The copy he shelved was to preserve it as the source (maybe?).
I'm glad I saw this movie knowing nothing about it. It was wild.
Another one of my favorites. Denzel is that dude!
Great film with a very strong message. If you watch it again you will pick up on alot of clues to his blindness. running the plates across the shelf, and everytime he puts things down its with force so it makes a sound for him to remember. also using the sounds that others make i.e footsteps, slurping a drink from a glass. etc. this was a very clever movie that must have caught everyone out but in the end its about Faith and belief. let us hope with all thats going on today the fire stays forever in the future and not reality.
Keep the great reactions coming Dev, peace from the UK.
Hey Devin it's been a while. Last time I watched your reactions, you didn't have that neon sign up, but its awesome. Been busy with job searching. But I always got to stop and take a break when I see anyone reacting to this movie, and I figured you might like it as much as I do. This movie just blew my mind, and the action is some of the best I've seen.
Peace man, and keep up the great work!
😂Bro's eating fruit by the foot 😂 awesome
He didn't just reprint one copy, that was just a symbolic scene at the end. The completion of the library so to speak.
Your reaction to the fight scenes was great. I am quiet but in my head I was doing the exact same thing the first time.
This is one movie that is just as good if not better watching it a second time
and a 2nd time, 3rd time, etc... This is a movie i watch every year, at random. Such a great film.
Deja Vu is one of my favorite movies by Denzel. That’s def worth a watch.

What a great reaction
"He's blind the whole time! Get the F outta hurr"😂

Eating fruit by the foot and watching Denzel Washington kick ass..AWESOME!!!
This was a phenomenal movie. I’ve seen it many times. It is the first time I ever heard his enemy refer to him as King.
Printed multiple copies of the Bible but only needed one for the Library. Others for distribution and one for the girl who can read it during her journey back into the wilderness. Eli was raised up as a latter day Judge - one of the charismatic military leaders of Israel between the time of Moses and the Kingdoms (like Samson or Deborah).
Yo yo yo. All love. Your mic is clipping. Love your enthusiasm and vibe. Sound guy here. Check your sound levels brother 👍

My favorite Denzel movie!
Denzel is a bad ass and this movie is great, love it
Idk why but watching Devin munch on a fruit roll up for the first part of the reaction was hilarious
I fell in Love woth Denzel first time I saw in him TV series St. Elsewhere, he was so young and handsome. But I think he becomes better looking with age.
He's son is becoming a good actor himself.
What I love about him he never said his dad was Denzel, to audition for parts. John David Washington was in a movie, and I kept thinking he reminds me so much of Denzel, and what a good actor. I Googled him, and find out he's Denzels son.
Eating human flesh does weird things to the human body. It can cause a variety of neurological symptoms, prion diseases, and other transmissable illnesses as well as parasites and other unpleasant conditions. There's a reason the majority of human cultures have taboos against cannibalism--because the effects were observed far back in prehistory, and people took notice.
A very interesting movie, and my compliments to the famous star, Denzel Washington❤❤
My favorite Denzel Washington movie is Fallen. It also stars John Goodman. You'll love it.
