    I was truing my dope yesterday. Pretty much following your advice. My Magneto Speed gave me 2830 but I when I trued with my Kestrel. It was showing 2880. I used truing bars at 800 and 1000. 2880 works at all distances.
    My first time doing this but that seems like a huge difference! 6BRA W/107 SMK

      Glad it worked out for you Dale Evans (love the name)! I was telling a buddy at a match this weekend to not get hung up on perfection or when numbers don't match, like in this instance. As you saw, these numbers will rarely be close. Thanks for watching my friend!

    Make a video on what u do on a match day with ur kestrel. That would be a good video. There are a few different ways guys use the kestrel.

      Hi Andrew! Good point, I'll put that in the list. Thanks for watching my friend!

      Thanks Mark! Yeah, that Kestrel can be a pain, but remember, it's really just a calculator that gets you 'close'...Adjustments may be needed even as we shoot a match. Thanks for watching my friend!

    On the DSF it depends on how far u shoot. If ur shooting 1500 and beyond, i would highly suggest working on the dsf.

      Good point Andrew! I was focusing on PRS here, but should have pointed out the beyond say 1,200 yards it's best to stick with the DSF function. Thanks for watching my friend!

    Great overview thank you especially the kestrel setting’s simplicity.
    What do you do if your range has some elevation drop or rise to it do you use the adjusted distance that your rangefinder gives you with the slope included?

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Rvoykin! Honestly, unless it's a 15 degree drop/rise, I don't really worry about that. At zero degrees for example, a 600 yd shot elevation is ~3.7 Mils, with a 15 degree angle, it's ~3.9 Mils, which can be substantial based on target size. But at say 10 degrees the difference is .1 Mil, so not a big deal in my opinion. But yes, for say hunting in the mountains, it can mean the difference between a kill or not. Thanks for watching my friend!

    Is there any validity to using the velocity adjustment from one temperature and applying it to Chrono MV at another temp for 22lr? In other words, if I chrono at 50F as 1100FPS but MV correct to 1080, then I chrono at 70F at 1130FPS, can I use that 20FPS offset to MV correct as 1110FPS at 70F?

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi FishOn1! I have thought about that, but my understanding is that this is not a linear equation, so the short answer is I wouldn't expect similar results. I've seen my dope change from what the Kestrel told me on a 105 degree day (even though I'd trued my DOPE at say 95 degrees) by a large margin. In reality, the first 3 shots of the match or whatever you're doing should allow you to make any adjustment you need for follow-on shots. Hope this helps and thanks for watching my friend!

      Hi Andrew! I am a member at CCC Shooting Complex (cccshootingcomplex.com/) near Navasota, which is where we shoot both rimfire and centerfire matches. The Best In Texas 2-day match is this weekend and I'll be RO'ing up there. If you really want to see what PRS is all about, come up on Saturday if you can and just watch for a while...When you get there ask the people running it where Tony Pip is and they'll tell you what stage I'm RO'ing so we can chat. Hope to see you up there and thanks for watching my friend!
