Bill Hicks is the comedian at the beginning. The best that ever lived.
Bill hicks is a fantastic comic but he's nowhere near the f****** best.
Chris Blowers hot take
@@reggierowe147 your mom's a hot take
Chris Blowers thanks man I appreciate it! 😊
@@reggierowe147 ❤
To answer your question regarding how long it takes to truly understand a Tool song, I've been listening to them for about 30 years and I'm still catching shit I hadn't caught before lol. Tool is the gift that keeps on giving. Awesome stuff guys. Wish Tool Tuesday was everyday ✌
100%
It never ends and that is the most incredible thing. Fan since 92, no one else will ever compare.
if you haven't already start listening for the puns in the lyrics sometimes made by mispronouncing some words, i'm convinced it's deliberate. psychopathy misreading me, release in sodomy, there's a bit in a live version of 46&2 that sounds exactly like give a dollar to me. you'll notice it loads if you listen for it
@@sidarthur8706 This is all definitely intentional. Maynard might be a fan Joyce. Jiambi is another great example.
This is so true!
Guys we want to apologise for cutting the song short on this TOOL TUESDAY, it was a technical difficulty that happened in the editing process and WILL never happen again. Hope you guys can forgive us.
Sure, but why not go back and finish? TOOL deserves the respect...
Next one gotta be Disposition Reflection Triad , gotta be , my favourite song of all times
Haha you guys it's all good. I loved your reaction. Seeing the genuine emotions this song invokes in you both. Special
Pry ingo pen my thir deye
Hope y’all go back and enjoy the full song!
Disposition, Reflection and Triad all in one setting, as they go best together!!!
This.
Yeh reflection has been my favorite songs since it came out when I was 12... brought this song in for English class in my alternative school lol in grade 9. Teacher was blown away
I third this...be a long video though.
The band actually composed them as one piece of music at over 20 minutes long.. it was then indexed into 3 tracks for the album release!
I forth that
I’m sorry, but did you guys just blue ball us? You didn’t finish the song , the best part for that matter.. Sad eyes
@18:19 I think homie had to take a shit or something lol maybe they forgot to turn the camera back on... ?
There has to be a part 2
I was wondering the same thing. I was waiting for them to come back and then they said their goodbyes
So sorry guys it was a technical difficulty and will never happen again. Sorry
BRuh, I was just listing to dude talk, then they started wrapping up...I was like.. WHAT!? Blue Balls is right.
I've literally been listening for 25 yrs and still find new shit. That's why "the army" loves reactions on youtube
If you like Justin Chancellor, check out Schism. That's all him and Danny Carey. Amazing song.
The music to me is like when you thought you only took two hits but look down to see you’ve actually eaten a ten strip
Pushit
Pushit
Pushit
You will thank us and in turn we will thank you
I would go album cut first then salival live
Yep, exactly what I've been telling them for a few weeks now. Third Eye is intense, heavy, and trippy. The live version of PUSHIT is beautiful and meditative but still heavy, oh man they are gonna love it.
I'd just go straight to the Salival version for these guys they aint missing anything from the ænima version doing that.
@@Wazzaozzyskier you really think so? I think it is worth listening to the original first, just to appreciate the transformation that the salival show brought to it!
@@moritzkorsch9029 fair call, i just think if one had to be picked for a review video its the one i'd recommend, but both are epic no doubt about it.
I second the recommendation... Please get yall some of both versions of Pushit
Tool- jimmy: amazing song, its about Maynard (jimmy) and eleven was hes age when his mother had a stroke and was paralyzed for 10000 days
Yeah you never have to stress about "getting into" a Tool song, it can take quite a few sessions before it clicks, you just have to be patient. Pretty much all their material's been like that for me, and then the more times you listen to it the better it gets. I'm actually impressed as hell with people loving a song the first time around, I wish I was that badass myself 😤
“Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Heres Tom with the Weather.”
― Bill Hicks
Bill Hicks, really close to the band up until the day he died. He used to tour with them and kick off their shows. I saw them together 3xs in Ca.
Well that's fucking awesome. A show of a lifetime. I read somewhere that Bill famously said something like "hey guys I dropped a contact" to start the set. Anyways I discovered Tool and Bill separately around the same time and when I discovered the link I was blown away.
If I had a time machine I'd go to that concert as well as seeing Pink Floyd's Pulse. Bill Hicks would have been one hell of an act to see durring these current times.
That's insanely amazing!
Yep this song melts minds. Can't wait to see what y'all think of it.
Ive been listening to their songs over and over for 17 years and still discover new things. Each song almost changes over time as you yourself change. There's no end for 'understanding,' TOOL, the meanings transform and evolve along with everything else in this world.
June now listening to the song with this reaction I've got a new perspective of it lyrics wise in regards to something I'm going through right now in my life and I'm amazed by this feeling, This song has been with me for years and now I have attached a new personal feeling and interpretation for it.
I’m still listening and processing and I’ve been listening since ‘92, brother. It continues to evolve.
Thats Justin chancellor on the bass above Adam Jones on guitar. He's playing the bass like an electric guitar. A freaking mazing.
Pre-liked! Tool Tuesday is the best weekly holiday!
Lol thanks bro...hope you will be there to watch it live with us and comment as it goes along feel free to ask any questions you like
@@Hollywood6IX your question of how many times you need to listen to these songs to understand them. It changes with time. Love the fact you learned Adam and Justin's names. You are truly tool soldiers now.
You can thank me for coming up with Tool Tuesday
Trash Talkers I have a little Tool gem for you. React to “Dier Von Satan”. It’s in German. DO NOT read translation til after you hear it.
You guys are leading these dudes astray. They should be focused on the meat of the catalog and come back to this deeper stuff that needs context later. It's like somebody does their first Tool reaction and the top voted comment always seems to be "HEY YOU HAVE TO DO THE DANNY CARRY PNEUMA DRUM REACTION BECAUSE OMG." Meanwhile they haven't even heard some of the stuff that drew us all in at the beginning. Not saying you're not out there, but the majority of us didn't hear 3rd eye for a while into our Tool journey. Anyways, flame away.
I agree
The OGs know you're right. It's too soon to throw this at them. 5 years from now they'll come back to it and everything'll snap into focus.
I agree, but unfortunately, a lot of the people making recommendations don't seem to realize that. They keep recommending songs that only existing Tool fans are likely to appreciate. When you're trying to get people hooked on Tool, you gotta start with some of the more mainstreamish, radio-friendly stuff before you start digging into stuff like this.
I've been only a tool fan for like a couple years or something, so I'm not an og, but i totally agree with the comment.
They seem like the kind of guys who can handle it, but yeah - not my preferred route
Fellas, Justin is the band's 2and Bass player. Paul D'Amour was their first, he plays on Opiate and Undertow and actually has writing credits on AEnima.
I love your reaction videos. You both really get into the music and don’t just sit there staring at the lyrics. Keep ‘em coming!
Very good choice👍 but here is an idea for next time...Two'fer Tool Tuesday in which yall should react to
TOOL - PUSHIT (ORIGINAL)
then
TOOL - PUSHIT (SALIVAL LIVE)
I feel it's only right to listen to the original studio version before the live one. The live one is my personal favorite. I won't stop suggesting this, PLEASE my dudes, I know you will be blown away.
☝️I second this. Dont have to do them back to back, but hes right. There are certain Tool songs (as you guys have discovered) that take you on a journey. The one you're about to react too, and Pushit... goddam. Get ready boys.
Great idea.
Yes!
Great idea but it should be intension
/right in two
@@seanbrent8294 ok sure..those are great song choices as well, I just have a particular feeling about the live version of Pushit recently. We shall see in due time, thanks for the input
So excited for y’all to hear this. My personal favorite Tool song.
Mine too.
Tool - Lateralus, Schism, Eulogy, H.
I could go on and on but those are definitely songs to react to
Next Tool Tuesday should be Push IT, Live from the album Salival. IMO it's the greatest example of Maynard's vocal abilities. So fragile yet so powerful. Incredible song. Keep up the great work guys!
Absolutely. I love that MJK sings Pushit in a different key. Stunning.
I've been saying this every week. It's one of their most powerful songs imo. You guys have to do this next
I second that... I want you to shut your eyes & go there & we'll meet you on the other side...other side...other side...other side. F yeah.
Kristen Dickinson Best intro ever. Love it.
This. The live version of Push It is soooo good!
This is my number one Tool song somehow beating out scores of other masterpieces... the mystique of the whole experience is seemingly infinite
You gotta remember that Adam Jones was Tom morello’s roomie. They have to have rubbed off on each other.
If I may, Maynard’s mother passed away and he wrote a few songs about his journey through that. Jimmy, judith (by Maynards solo band A Perfect Circle) wings for Marie, and 10000 days. It will make you feel every emotion you have
What that guy said ^^^
Wish you guys had finished the song, but glad you appreciated it!
My wife and I took acid when we saw them last November. Greatest experience ever.
React to Bill Hicks! he's
the comedian at the beginning.Had a big influence on tool.
Also Justin Chancellor started on Aenima album. Been there ever since and his first bass line was 46 and 2...gangsta
For me, I'm still learning about Tool songs and I've been listening since the early 2000s.
Georgia boy myself! McDonough by the way. Been listening to TOOLsince I was 14. Tripped many times listening to TOOL. It changed me as a person. I just found you guys today, been watching your channel for 5 hours. I ain't done yet.
I love your reaction to this! I just wish that you finished the song. I can’t wait for next Tuesday!
I had this record in highschool and thirdeye was the only song I never really got. As the years went on and I got older, and over repeated listens it started growing on me, almost to the point of being my favorite song. During their live shows for years they would either open with thirdeye or close with third eye. I personally LOVED when they opened with it. I was worried recommending this song to you guys because I had such a hard time with it but was stoked to see you liked it.
Same story for me too. Blows me away when people request Third Eye and Rosetta Stoned early in ones TOOL journey.
Wanna hear some good story? In 1993 Bill Hicks opend for Tool in a couple of occasions. He and Maynard became good friends (maynard always wanted to be a comedian too…).
In 1994, no one knew Bill Hicks was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer… the day he died, Maynard had a dream with Bill Hicks on it… a very oniric kind of dream. That night, his line phone rang… it was one of their friends in common, saying: Bill passed away. For that reason, Maynard wrote Third Eye, as a allegory to his friend and the dream he had. At the same time, Ænima is dedicated to him… specially on the song Ænema, with the concept “Arizona Bay”. Cheers
I was fortunate enough to see Tool perform this song live back in 2017 in Montreal and it was absolutely incredible! Been listening to Tool since 2004 approx. And have seen them live 4 times. And have listened to their songs hundreds of times! You guys are due for Lateralus soon!!!
jtrem08 I was at that show too...opening with the Grudge...🤘
@@chriscoote2690 nice and yes they did open with the grudge, it was amazing! I loved the sneak peak of descending too, I think they only played a little more than half the song.
For me, at least ten times. The first time, I listen overall. I always love and "get" Maynard instantly. Then I listen again and follow the guitar. The next listen, I focus on Danny and Justin. After that, I concentrate on the lyrics. By then, I love the song, period. I have listened to Tool this way from the very beginning, from the first EP, and it has never failed for me. Tool have no bad songs, so re-listening to everything hundreds and hundreds of times as many of us have, is no problem at all. As far as I am concerned, though I love many bands, Tool is the greatest musical group of any kind of all time.
No BAD songs, but definitely some filler which make putting entire albums on playlists a little annoying ;)
"How many times do listen to a Tool song, before you truly understand a Tool song." I've heard this one a hundred times and still get something new out of it every time.
Also Justin Chancellor is a badass.
You guys are the shit, don't need to apologize for anything. Shit happens guys. But I've been a tool fan since 2005/2006 and I'm still diving through the songs and almost hearing them for the first time again..... I've Listened to these songs thousands of times by now and they still find a way to make the songs sound brand new again. Best band on the planet.
Tool is the embodiment of self reflective- tripping music. Once you see it you can't unsee it. Yes psychedelics have always been a part of the tool experience.
25+ years of being a Tool fan, listening to the entire catalog over & again, I still pick up something new, or to paraphrase MJK, off the Salival version of 'Third Eye' : "...from a different angle, under a different light, so we can, hopefully, kind of see it almost for the first time...". Spiral out, keep going.
It took me years of every song to truly understand the meaning of them, cause some of them happen to hit THAT place of knowing throught my life´s expiriences. Cheers mans! Awesome work, and yes! JUSTIN is my favorite band member, he´s AMAZING! Huggz
After breaking my hand at my first concert for undertow In ‘94, Truly guys, as a new member, it’s a pleasure watching your transcendental transformation into your new TooL SelveS
OMG! 3 min bro. 😳 😮 Due over! Now I'm gonna have to go and listen to the whole song cause I feel off now.
I do love Tool Tuesday though.
Yo you guys get it... You are full on TOOL ARMY. Give a like for these two!!!! Yo I can personally attest to the fact that TOOL and LSD are in fact a grand time!!!! Hehe
Love that you guys get the goosebumps. That’s the sign of something truly great.
Thanks for the Justin Chancellor shout out. His bass is THE defining sound of Tool. He’s a deadset bass god.
Yes the comedian is Bill Hicks in the intro. This album was dedicated to him due to his death from pancreatic cancer. RIP Bill Hicks. You were an inspiration to so many including myself.
Guys I would strongly suggest making sure a song is "finished" correctly.... thats 3 minutes missed ....
Mighta been cam cut off or they may have had time restrictions...
So sorry guys it was a technical difficulty and will never happen again. Sorry
It wasnt a technical difficulty.... you guys wrapped it up and said bye to us all.... a technical difficulty Is recording device died, issue with upload ect. I actually enjoy your reactions. Own it and move on guys :)
TOOL uses a sample of Timothy Leary on the live version of Third Eye on “Salival.” Leary also introduced TOOL during a stop of Lollapalooza in ‘93. It’s on RUclips btw. I’m going to say the use psychedelics are 100% involved in the creation of this song.
The ending is the best part, why lol
Listen to Rosetta Stoned, it's about a bad DMT trip
So sorry guys it was a technical difficulty and will never happen again. Sorry
i wouldn't necessarily say bad
@@baynard3461 let's just say not pleasant
@@DerWaidmann_ idk man sounds like a damn good time to me. ive tripped and realized some crazy shit about the universe only to forget the details when i came out, but it was still an amazing experience nonetheless
Rosetta Stoned is not about DMT. Its about acid. "Gotta be dead head chemistry. Blotter got right on top of me. Got me seein E mutherfucking T"
Welcome to the Tool Army guys. So happy to see people discover Tool and watch it change their lives just as it did mine 22 years ago. Eventually you both will need to make it through the whole discography but I would like to see you guys react to Flood from the Undertow album.
I appreciate that you guys really listened to the entire song!! Love you guys
We love you!
There are no weak links in this band. For Schism ALONE Justin is a god!🤘🤘 Spiral out!👍
You always understand from your current perspective on life. It never stops growing in meaning.
Think for yourselves question authority. Love you dudes
Back in the day, I used to listen to this track in my living room after a hit or two of LSD kicked in.
Great song! Y'all should check out "Eulogy"
Yes. Then the Patient. Peace.
Yes, Eulogy kicks f-ing ass!
You asked how long it takes to understand a Tool song ?
Well, short and real answer : Years !!
Not kidding, everytime you listen to several songs by Tool, you get some or the other thing that you wouldn't have just missed but left an entire different perspective which was lying underneath the number of layers by each instrument/individual, lyrics, song and even in the pauses that occurs from time to time in the given track. Thanks to the universe that led these four people to get together and show us something that we were unaware or oblivious to.
Phosphorescent desert buttons is a reference to peyote. Peyote’s active ingredient is DMT.
God you’re right. My bad.
"Oh no, here it comes!" lolzzz Until Lateralus was released, this was my favourite Tool song for many, many years. Brilliance doesn't even touch this song.
You guys are reacting the way every tool fan does when seeing them live. You want to take in everything, but you just close your eyes and feel.
Bill Hicks Intro-
"See, I think drugs have done some good things for us, I really do. And if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor - go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your CDs and burn 'em. 'Cause you know what? The musicians who've made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years... real fucking high on drugs."
"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."
"It's not a war on drugs, it's a war on personal freedom, that's what it is, okay? Keep that in mind at all times, thank you. HERE COMES MAYNARD WITH THE LYRICS.....🤘😋
Exactly, it takes time to sink in. You receive what you're ready for
I am enjoying your newfound journey on this path called Tool. I'm 47 y/o and been a fan since their first album.
It really sucked that you guys had technical difficulties on this song.
You guys should make up for it with doing a reaction to this same song but the live version from the Salival album. If you thought that this version was psychedelic, wait until you hear the live version. Also Pushit and No Quarter from that album will literally take you to another realm!
Thanks for the great videos guys!
tool has helped me with a lot of emotional trauma and for some reason a tool will come on and speak to for months. I will forever listen to tool. I feel like I was suppose to listen to tool
Over the last few days I've listened to all of the tool albums. And this song right here is my absolute favorite of all of them.
Also I practice meditation a lot and I see the third eye alot.
#tooltuesdays 👍
Hey guys, love your vids! Tool has been my favorite band for the last 15 years of my life and I am still discovering new meaning in their songs, every listen is a new experience. And yes, they are so much more than a band :D :D :D
I legit get the feeling that you two were just jamming on some fucking good tunes. Enjoying base beats and smooth rhythm. And then, one day you were like... let's listen in on some metal man. Maybe we'll find something cool. And honestly, if your only excursion into metal and rock music resulted in you finding Tool... the experiment is a success. I am so stupidly happy with how much you love this music. Keep up the good work boys.
Bill Hicks that is indeed. I needed few years and you just got it straight away. Neatly done. Pross!
got this from song facts website: On the studio version on the album Aenima, the band included spoken-word excerpts by the late comedian/philosopher Bill Hicks, who was also given thanks in the credits of Radiohead's album The Bends. In the live version that was included with the band's boxed set Salival, they included a different spoken-word excerpt, this time from the late Dr. Timothy Leary, famed as the LSD messiah of the '60s.
shout out to RADIOHEAD in there! AWESOME!
I wish someday after you all get through the TOOL catalog you will do a RADIOHEAD catalog reaction series. MUCH LUV TO YOU TWO.
Every time you listen to a tool song you can find something new. I've been a fan for over 20 years and I can still say that.
I have found that I get new understandings for these songs every time I grow as a person.
To answer the question you asked at the end: I dont think I fully understand any Tool songs after a certain number of listens, it is more of a time period. It takes a year or two for me to fully understand, line by line and lyrics by lyrics, a Tool song because I need to experience life while listening to the song to understand all of the nuances and metaphors and musical mysterious in each song. Yes, they make great songs that lift you up and take you to a new place, but the guys are very practical and grounded and you need that grounded "real life" perspective before you can say that you fully understand everything in one of their songs.
Picking out a favorite Tool song would be impossible but this song is definitely at the top of my list.. keep em coming guys
When Maynard is singing to someone "...we came out to watch you, why are you running away..." its directed at Henry Rollins and their falling out
After 20 years, still finding new things in their songs
Every single time you listen to any Tool song, it grows within you. You hear something new, or truly get Maynard's meaning lyrically. Its a new experience every time you listen. The sheer number of times you hear them, there is always something new to take away from it.
Yes it's Bill Hicks. Tool and Hicks were friends back in the days before he died and he opened for them on tour quite a bit. They have a lot of ties to a lot of people in the LA scene whether it's David Cross, Henry Rollins, Tom Morello and Rage, Bill Manspeaker of Green Jello/Jelly. etc. Maynard has a guest spot in one of Rage's songs, too, I forget which and Henry Rollins has some lines on Undertow. I think y'all are getting the double entendre without a doubt and I still after 23 years wonder if there's even more meaning to the song than just the Third Eye concept of opening your mind beyond your senses whether with or without the drugs, and the concept of physically closing your eyes and kind of understanding the song on a level beyond just your eyes and your mind.
TOOL - DISPOSITION/REFLECTION/TRIAD (with lyrics)
You will get goosebumps with this
Aw sucks that the video cut out but glad you guys enjoyed this song. Definitely gotta peep that bass tho that part where it he slides real slow while maynard's singing "soooo glad to see you". Insane lol. You guys gotta listen to Disposition/Reflection/Triad *all together* it's long but veerryy worth it, there's no video on youtube with all three together but you guys can figure that out I'm sure
I've been a die hard TOOL fan since 1992 and still to this day im still deciphering their music. Maynard has said, I belive, that he wants us each to have our own meaning for his lyrics. Welcome to the family guys!!!
This song is too deep than most of us can even fathom. This song started the Tool phenomenon.
I’m tripping out watching this, looking through my phone screen and my eyes crossed and your eyes combined into a third eye 👀👁
Danny Carey was my inspiration for picking up a set of drum sticks 15 years ago. I could play 8 hours a day for another 15 years and never be on his level. And to answer your question about how many times I listen to it before I understand it..I’ve been listening to tool since 2000 and sometimes I’ll listen to a song for the hundredth time and suddenly get slapped with some nuance I’ve never fully appreciated before. Or suddenly the meaning will hit me. There’s no roadmap my dudes. Tool is a journey not a destination.
Thank you!!! Finally, love watching your guys reactions. Tool has been my favorite band for 25 years. How about a 2 for Tool Tuesday next week, couple shorter songs like schism/ prison sex etc.!!!!!
Yup... Bill Hicks... he died right before this album came out and he was a huge inspiration to Maynard and the band. So his samples on this track was part of an homage to him... there is also a painting of Bill Hicks as a Doctor “working” on Maynard in the liner art for this album... ALSO... the lyric “See you down in Arizona Bay” from the song Ænema is a reference to the album “Arizona Bay” ... the song itself was also inspired by a bit from the album where he’s ranting about how he hopes LA gets destroyed, broken off of the continent and sunken under the ocean... hence the title, “Arizona Bay”... obviously Arizona is a landlocked state, so there is no Arizona Bay... but if California broke off into the ocean, Arizona would be the new coast... hence, “Arizona Bay”... not a lot of people realize the significance of saying “see you down in Arizona Bay”... lol...
Lost keys + Rosetta stoned
One of their greatest. The amount of transitions alone will blow your mind. Changed me.
You cannot forget about Justin!!! (Chancellor - BASS)
I've been listening to these songs for a good 12 years or so, and I'm STILL peeling back layers of meaning. I haven't gone looking up any meanings, though, so it's probably been slower for me than most? I like it that way though - just going the journey alone with them, cause it means I get to discover it all myself! The more I live, the more I understand, and the more I feel through their music. They never get old.
Tool are the sherpas who will lead you to a better self, if you want them to!
You guys are bad ass. I've been a Tool fan for years and years. I've experienced them in concert and hold their music close to my heart. It's great seeing you guys turn on to something so great. It can change your life. Real shit. Keep it up. Oh..I suggest the song H.
What ever happened happened you guys are my favorite guys to watch atm love that tool is under your skin lol keep up the good work and you kinda nailed it on the head about this song. can't wait whats coming up next for tool tuesday .
Again I'll say it. Tool albums need to be listened from beginning to end (including hidden tracks) consecutively. Each album has a personality, and the songs on that album flow into one another. Some albums more then others. Start with Undertow and follow Tool from anger to enlightenment.
Glad to see you guys enjoy Tool so much. Wilkommen zu dir Tool Army. If you haven't already, do the self-titled track off this album. I think y'all are ready to learn to swim
No lie. I’ve been listening to them for 30 years religiously and always exploring different layers. Listened to songs 1000’s of times.
I was introduced to Tool when I was 6 by my Dad and haven't stopped listening since! I'm 22 now haha
I’m 22 as well, I always remembered my dad listening to undertow (that’s was his favorite tool album and still is) so I kind of knew tool from that but around the same age as you my dad sat me down and put in the salival VHS and showed me the videos to sober prison sex stinkfist and Ænima, I’ve been hooked since. One of my favorite bands since I was very young.
Hi guys, after a reactions of SOAD and TOOL bands, big fan from Colombia. Love your comments, personally a Yage or Ayahuasca cured by it, Man, when you feel what is called "PINTAR" (Paint), you become Tool, is a wonderful/dreadful expirience. Gonna love it!
Ok a lil back story on the "jokes" in the song is BILL HICKS. he also inspired ANEIMA and part of Eulogy. Bill Hicks was a good friend of Tool.
