Used to watch Hoges on Channel 4 in the UK when I was a teenager. Sgt Donger was one of my favourite characters. The computerised beer gut was a stroke of genius. Just brilliant! Cheers Hoges for all the laughs, mate.
Yep, I met some real bastards in Sydney in the mid 80s. One cop had introduced me to the Sydney phone book by bashing me with it (as was the tradition at the time), then asked me if I knew what TRG meant, since he was a member. At 17 I didn’t actually know so he says ‘terribly rough guy’ (LOL-ffs!) and hit me again👊🏼😵 It was years later I learned the real life Sgt Donga was in the Tactical Response Group, real heavy hitters to deal with a sorry ass kid! 😫 Fark that hurt!🙄😆
Great stuff! Sure the pace is obviously slower than today's comedy but this is a guy calling out Australian Police corruption in the early 80's on mainstream Australian TV. Not the best skit by this character but the Donger character was awesome! The "bionic-gut"! Ha ha! LOL! Genius!
Donga pretty much summed up Queensland and NSW police force at the time and most probably cops in the other states - but Qld and NSW as history has shown us were fucking corrupt. Not sure if Hoges knew about the corruption but like a lot of Australians he would have had some inkling and probably played upon it.
Arthur dunger was the name of my mates dog! His name was Jacko! Leo wanker was a nick name of the coppers! Me and my mates would not run until the cop car stopped right near us then we would run! It was a sport! We where just kids loitering! Great memories
