    This video was amazing. I found a mower on the side of the road. The bag, manual and tool to change the spark plug were with it. It looked like it was garage kept but wouldn't start unless I put gas in the carburetor. I followed the video and it started on the first pull. Thanks you so much for posting the video.

    Thank you for this video - I was able to start my mower that was dead after one mow from last year. I was going to write it off. I followed your step by step instructions and it started with one pull. I believe I messed up the mower last year after mowing over a lot of sticks. I won't do that again.

    I Just purchased one last week, seems like a nice little mower. Started second pull, but after a break, went to start it and it was difficult. Later took another break, it was hard to start. Ive looked at alot of videos on this brand, seems like alot of buyers had issues and call it junk. I think not. I suspect that the jets, even from the factory are clogged with some kind of film they coat everything in for initial break in. You could feel the substance on the dipstick when it was empty. Anyways, it ran really good, cut the grass with just the mulching blade, no bagging and did a fantastic job. Also, its fast, and didnt bogg down or hesitate on a tall yard of grass. Im going to clean that carb real good, and see how whe runs. For the price you cant beat it, and besides, I like to tinker.

When I mow the lawn & start the mower the 1st time it starts on the 1st pull, but if the mower is hot & I try a restart the mower pops ( I think it is backfiring & will not start ). I then let it set a little ( 5 mins ) & it starts up with a lot of smoke & then clears. Do u have a answers 4 me b4 I bring it in for a fix. The unit is a yr. old & under warranty. • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE

      thanks Chris Coney for the question, unfortunately I don't have one to use in a video but I don't have a problem answering question. I could a make a full length video talking about it, more in depth.
      Basically though, I would check the oil.. like if you have OCD. Check it before you start it up, and a few minutes after you stop it. I would only use 100% gasoline with no ethanol. I would also use a fuel stabilizer. other than that,
      check tire pressures, make sure the spindles are "spinning" with little to No noise otherwise change them. And keep the all steering points, and levers, well lubed like you're working on a train from the 1900's. The biggest issue
      is the deck, its going to break one day. so just be prepared for that

    I followed the instruction on this video to clean out the carburetor all seemed good. .No clogged holes and it looked clean. So now I think it might be the timing being off with a damaged flywheel key. This video at the ends mentions watching out for stumps and I had to make sure my son heard that part of your video because that is exactly what he hit and now it won't start. lol
    So, do you have a video on how to replace the flywheel key on a powersmart? I think my key is broken and it seems difficult to get the flywheel off. There is these 4 screws on the side that I believe I need to remove but it looks like I need to take the fuel fuel thank out and the exhaust.

    My Briggs Classic 35 runs well on idle but when under a heavy load or in hot weather it makes lots of black smoke. The air filter is not clogged and it has the correct spark plug but it has a low compression reading from when using the pull cord.
    Do you have any suggestions on what is causing this?

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  2 года назад +1

      unfortunately, with low compression, and under load, the engine isn't compressing the air fuel mixture well, so it comes out the exhaust as black smoke, because of poor combustion. nothing will fix it unless you rebuild it with new rings.

    This mower is made possible by people who confuse "new" with being "better". Where I live, it's pretty easy to find a used, self-propelled Craftsman or MTD-family mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine and a bag that has been "flipped" after a tune-up for an asking price of around $120 (and often negotiable down to the $80-$100 range)...basically about half of what this poorly-constructed one costs new, and without the worry of trying to source hard-to-find parts for a no-name brand should something fail.

    That's an awfully short fuel line. I wonder if there are fuel shutoff valves that are small enough (short enough) to actually be able fit in that short line (I mean there really isn't much play there to work with).

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE

      yes it is short, I would suggest using a 90° fuel valve instead.

    I won't work on these mowers anymore....I had 2 of them and parts are very hard to find...
    I found an "oem" carb for it and everything was right except for the fuel inlet was for a much smaller diameter fuel line...I couldn't make it work...I was going to use a barb to bard reducer but there simply isn't enough room between carburetor and gas tank....

      unfortunately, you'll have to do a search for stations that have no ethanol in it. From what I hear, though, I think you might be out of luck. You can put additives in your fuel to counteract the Ethanol though.

    If overall economy REALLY matters, buy a quality machine and take care of it. Anymore, that means you buy a Honda or something with a Honda engine. Spring for an hourmeter while you're at it. If money's tight, I'd look for a good used Honda instead of a brand new Chinese question mark; when that discount mower breaks down -- and it will -- good luck finding parts or anyone who will work on it. It's unfortunate that there are so few sound choices anymore.

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE

    I notice you typically warm up the engine before an oil change. Oil flows easier and removes more sludge? That said, oil is at top end of engine when run. If you change it cold are you not capturing more oil since it’s all in the sump/ pan and none in top end of engine? Plus less chance of injury of hot oil? It may take longer but I usually let it sit and come back to it.

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  2 года назад +1

      you are absolutely right it's best to change it when the engine is warm. however, if you don't want to run what's in the engine, for whatever reason, a cold change is better than no change.

  • @haneyoakie14

    That $169 mower last year is probably $219 this year. If I had one that I had fixed to “New”, I would target 50% of the current Box Store price, in this case, I would put it out on FB mkt place at $125, and would expect $100.
