Your success in having as many connections as possible is a mycelial concept. Look at how the mycelium branch out to form as many connections with the surrounding environment as possible. I once thought that independence means isolating yourself from everything but in fact, true independence is being connected to everything so that there is no dependence on any one thing. Thank you for the video man.

I love it! This is the kind of inspiration that feeds my ambition to just keep cultivating, and never let go of that goal to get to a commercial level. I just built my first lab and locked down an LLC. I hope to meet you someday to learn some more insights from someone as open as you about the trade. I can tell you really just love fungus and all it can teach us! If every business had a compassionate drive like yours this world would be a better place.. keep up the hard work! Also, keeping it classy with just one little f bomb thrown in there 😂. You rock dude.

However, I understand the time and effort it takes to plan each video, set up your camera, edit and what not. Thats time you spend away from your business directly (even though I'm sure its contributed to it in the long run) all in the effort to aid in the success of others.

Thanks for video! I know a guy that has multiple utility sheds on this property that he doesnt use. Maybe I should offer to rent some of his sheds(1 or 2 at a time), and try to grow shrooms in them, but then i wonder how I can affordably keep them heated and properly ventilated? WOuld space heaters, and fans work? Must be expensive on hydro or can you do it with solar panels, or wind turbines? I live in Ontario, but this guy lives in Quebec where hydro is suppose to be more affordable. What do you think. How expensive is it to operate a grow room?

Hello. I also live in Canada, and I've been considering the idea of starting a business in producing spawn. From your video I get the impression that focusing on one aspect of cultivation may be helpful because you don't have to multitask nearly as much. It's interesting that you mention that there is currently no reputable supplier of good spawn, which means that potentially there is an opportunity in the market to build a business. I'm curious if you think it would be possible for spawn produced in Ontario to be shipped to other parts of the country without damage? Hypothetically, would a BC grower buy spawn from a producer from Ontario? Or is the shipping distance too great to make that feasible.
I have been making my own spawn and brain-storming on how the whole process could be scaled-up. So I do have a pretty good idea what spawn production company would look like, however I'm just not sure how much of an untapped market I would be able to access if I were to try to make that happen.

Spawn is so expensive when pre made, idk if I can agree with this and you and Myers mushrooms both suggest this. Spawn is ridiculously cheap if done yourself. Honestly in my opinion it should be required that anyone getting Into gourmet mushrooms for business grow the spawn and produce it themselves; unless just harvesting for personal consumption. Leave the business to the passionate ones willing to do the work from the ground up. Buying pre made blocks is leaving so much money On the table

I would say buying pre-made blocks is only putting money in the pockets of those producing and selling them. He is correct about getting a flow hood and starting there, but after that sterilizing and pasteurizing substrate is no more complicated than the flow hood work. He is arguing for his own limitations and past experience, which does not have to be anyone else's reality. It would be very hard to buy a bunch of blocks and expect to make money. Straw is very good to begin with, I agree with that too.

  • @KS-xd6ql
    @KS-xd6ql 6 лет назад +3

I'm based in Thailand and really starting to wonder if making your own bags is ever worth it when you can buy them for as little as 0.20 USD (inoculated and ready to go). Sure looks like a lot of work for a relatively low value product.
US might not be as cheap but it's certainly a consideration to make.

First let me say that you seem to be knowledgeable and fairly successful in your endeavors. Especially to someone like myself who is still in the research stage of my journey. Having said that, this video sucked. Particularly, as the content relates to the title. Ask yourself that same question, and watch the video for an answer to that question and you'll see what I mean. Sure, you put out some anecdotal blurbs, but never really got specific enough to create a baseline to start.
"Buy" a kit. Really? I'm sure your a wealth of information. I think you just fell short on delivery in this instance.

    • @whatthefungus

dankonia69 The video talks about the value of hands-on learning. Starting a mushroom business is not black and white and certainly not easy. I go into detail that you will be more successful if you focus on just growing, and buy ready to fruit blocks. If you want to learn what I do then take my course. This video puts into perspective the challenges I went through during start up. I got lots of videos on my channel that you should find helpful.

I think the franchise method will make everyone much more happier and successful. Each piece of your equipment has been made specific. Where as if since you have isolates that are proven. Making the blocks since your already an a-z farm. It would help your entire system to capitalize on each piece. Hmu Brian. Cause small scale and lab work is fun but it's not getting it to market without a whole lot of money, time and work.

I’m just starting out a mushroom growing company it’s only day 19 I’m here trying to absorb all this info like crazy it’s stressful starting from the ground up but so exciting. Working with a $20,000 investment and I’m not doing it alone. Wish us luck and I really think we’re gonna get somewhere

@@csv294 well man, it’s been a long winding road. And a lot of things fell through especially with our investor. We were swimming against syrup and it didn’t go the way we expected. We had some success selling mushroom products at several different farmers markets but we lost our grow space and office due to some unfortunate circumstances. But honestly I think it was all for the best and was an interesting learning experience. I haven’t given up on the dream though and it’s still something I hope to work toward. The road just isn’t gonna be so straight forward as originally thought but that’s just how things go. I’m moving out of this city in 2 months and starting a new chapter. Hopefully I find my way haha.
Thanks for the comment. Reading back at what I wrote 2 years ago at the start of this venture is somethin else huh.
Maybe I need to re watch this video huh!

Aren't you worried that at some point teaching people will backfire on you? If too many people do this then it isn't profitable anymore. The market will become over saturated because of youtube. I use to be interested in doing this but it doesn't look like a good business anymore. Is the cat out of the bag?

    • @whatthefungus

Gary Bolinky nah we have a strong foundation in our market. Like I said this business is not easy. That's why we offer a course but you still gotta put in the work

    • @logicmind240

But business isn't supposed to be easy cuz if it was everyone would be doing it and then there wouldn't be a very good profit for you

Why empower your competitors? I would rather keep the knowledge in house.
