What do you think happened to Maura Murray?

She's buried at the ski resort

I think she ran away. She definitely had an issue with alcohol, so if a killer did show up she would have been too drunk to fight an assailant off. But since the police got there just minutes after the one guy left, she probably just panicked and ran off and hopefully got a ride to a friends house.

Either A frame house somewhere or her friends picked her up and then who knows... But I don't think she wandered off and died of the elements.

I think she has definitely passed on. The A frame house theory is interesting

I am convinced she succumbed to freezing weather. The police have not searched the area properly. That is why she has not found.

I agree. After her crash I think she panicked because she was DUI and it'd end her probation. That would mean her sentence would likely be carried out - ending her nursing degree. She just wandered off and died due to the elements.

But it's almost been 20 years someone would have found her body by now. I think she was abducted I think she freaked out she knew the police were coming and ran on the streets and someone drove by and gave her a ride and she was desperate to get away and took advantage.

@@allisonmaldonado3705 this is what I think too. It's been two decades, someone would've found her body by now. She panicked, hitchhiked, & was abducted.

as a NH resident the chances of a long-haul truck driver being on that road at that time are slim

She ran off into the woods because she was drunk driving. Then died from hypothermia. She just hasn’t been found out there. Of course this is my opinion, and seems the most likely.

It doesn’t account for her bizarre behavior before hand. If let’s say she called her parents or something and said she was heading to see them, got into an accident and disappeared… maybe a nefarious person got her. But the circumstances leading up to it all lead so some other conclusion to me.

everything about this case is odd. Where was she going and why? Plus the car was driveable. She could have just gone to a repair shop. Most likely she either died of exposure or she was on her way to start a new life. She did not want ot be found.

An opportunistic killer flew from Utah to New Hampshire to kill a random stranger and then returned to Utah to establish an alibi. Okay, makes perfect sense.

same. Butch Atwood or Cecil smith who was the first officer on scene who has had many discrepancies in his story and he also killed himself years after. Nobody seems to ask any questions about these two men and I’m not sure why.

Maura Murray is one of those mysteries that have always bugged me. I mean, I can think of a lot of theories but every one of them doesn't really fit the evidence. My best guess (And this is admittedly out there) : She had a group of people that were somewhat shadowy in her university. She agreed to go north with one following her for some reason (Maybe romantic or perhaps more nefarious, I won't speculate). That person was following her and when she got into an accident, she waited until the other person showed up and got into that car, thinking she'd come back for the car. And that person killed her while those at the university packed up her stuff.
Is that likely? Probably not. But it does kinda fit, at least, most of the evidence. It explains why she disappeared, why nobody found the body close to her last spot and why the stuff was packed up in the university. It also somewhat explains some of her behavior before she left - the stolen credit cards and such. And it also explains the presence of that much booze - if she was going for a weekend party (or thought she was) then she'd have it.
It doesn't explain a lot of stuff, of course. Like who might have been following her or why or what the person that packed her stuff up was doing or who and so on. but this is the only idea I've come up with that explains 80% of the evidence.

Hi from Vermont. I live 30 mins from where Maura went missing and an hour from where Brianna went missing. I believe Brianna was involved with drugs and bad people and they parked her car at the abandoned home (it was backed in)
And I believe Maura was on her way to Burlington to see a secret boyfriend who went to UVM, and I believe she was picked up from the "accident" scene as her scent disappeared after 10 feet. Just guesses on my parr though.

I’m from the Amherst/Hadley area and was living in this area when this all happened. Being from the area, broadcasted this story quite a bit when this initially happened. Upon the anniversary of the day she went missing had been broadcasted for many years after. If anyone out there believes in psychics, and I mean good, reputable ones please look into a RUclips channel called “Channeling Erik”, look under the episodes of missing peoples cases. They tell a story about what happened to Maura, and cover many other missing adults and children that were classified as “open missing persons cases “ that have never been solved. Very sad and heart wrenching. Truly very sad. RIP Maura 🙏

Not enough consideration is given to Cecil smith, the first officer on scene who has had many discrepancies in his story and who killed himself. And same goes for butch atwood. Why does everyone just dismiss butch even though he was the first and only person to claim to see Maura at the wreck sight? Weird.

I bet she went to hide from the police and didn’t want to get a dui. Then she got too cold and knocked at the A framed house. Then they probably raped n killed her. I wish we could find her remains. That story has always touched me because we are the same age.

Her state of mind must have been frantic. She left Mass to clear her head but her problems were only going to get worse. Another car accident and a potential dwi since she was drinking is why I think she got out of the car on foot and was picked up by someone that ended up taking her life. Thats why her police dogs lost her scent in the middle of the road and her tracks werent in the woods. She got into a car to evade the police that were on their way.

She had two alcohol related accidents in less than 48hrs.thats very odd. She was under some tremendous emotional/mental pressure.there are so many strange twists in this case.but I think her unraveling private life is the key.i tend to think she wandered into the woods and died of exposure

She is likely within a mile of the spin-out, having hidden herself from the police and then brutal conditions she was not dressed or prepared for. At some point, she'd realize the cell phone was useless and her feet (in bowling shoes) weren't going to save her.
She will be found, possibly in s shed or a crawl space on private property. RIP

She lied about a death in the family and then wrecked her car drinking and driving. A witness spoke with her and she was gone within 5 minutes. Bringing Keys into the story is absolutely ridiculous and only muddles the truth by inviting others to play mental gymnastics with both timelines. I think it's most likely she was suicidal. The death in the family was either a lie, or a reference to herself. A lie would catch up with her and probably get expelled. Drinking and driving and then crashing could have been an attempt to take her life. Leaving her car at the scene with wine in it is another thing that would catch up to her and cause more problems when she was located. All things considered, she probably meant to take her own life.

She must have called someone she thought she knew and that person is responsible for her disappearance, a opportunistic killer, or she just got lost, was drunk and they didn't searched the area thoughtfully, and she's out there, waiting to be discovered.
