    I firmly believe that you can rock your way through the CK3 world if you just give in to roleplaying your character and follow the red thread that the Issue tab lies out for you!
    This video is my attempt to let people new to CK3 in on the secret of mastering the game without knowing anything about it!

      Great as always OPB. I would warn people to be careful of the issues and suggestions though. For example, as Rognvalder of Tronde in 867, the game keeps suggesting I declare war against Bjorn of Jamtland. He starts off stronger than us and usually gets stronger - you have to either recruit some Men-at-Arms or obtain allies. But, EVERYTHING you say here I can agree with, especially playing from an RPG standpoint and thinking about educating and marrying your family, courtiers, etc.
      If anyone wants to see the ENTIRE tutorial (ruclips.net/video/7cI6NOK5Kyw/видео.html) or Murchad become High King (ruclips.net/video/zL52KFMJUas/видео.html) or the first episode of a series where I fail to deliver Rollo unto the Seine (ruclips.net/video/mvsB7XGujes/видео.html).

    • @DoubleBizzy
      @DoubleBizzy 3 года назад

      @@ruukinen OK, but I think plenty of low-hour CK2 players (like me) and new players they're trying to attract with the polish & shine can easily be confused / duped into starting a war they have no chance at winning, multiple times, and rage quitting the game 4ever. Because they don't see the verbal descriptor of relative strength hovering over the levy image, they don't notice enemy allies' strength, they don't understand army quality... I think the auto-suggestions should be for very new play, and new players, so should be more carefully crafted. The wording says something about "rich lands for the taking", which kind of implies a walk in the park to players not familiar with CK / paradox games.

    • @ruukinen
      @ruukinen 3 года назад +5

      @@DoubleBizzy But you learn by doing mistakes no? I think it is a very unhealthy mindset that you should be "winning" the very first attempt you make. It's not just for new players, it is also for me so I don't have to keep constantly checking my character sheet for claims and remember all the de jure territory under my titles.

    _Usefull tip that saved me countless times in CK2:_
    Don't spend all your money. Keep a 500 to 1000 gold in permanent reserve in case of a bigger foe trying to steal your land. Then use that money to buy mercaneries to save you in said invasion. I usually keep 1000 gold in reserve in case of such an event. (I've noticed that the AI doesn't want to attack you if you have a large gold reserve as much as CK2)

    Great beginners guide . . . yes playing to your characters strengths really makes all the difference. CK3 does this so much better than CK2, and the new stress system is fantastic for 'encouraging' you to keep to character. I got stuck with a ruler with the Shy trait last night. I didn't think anything of it at first until I discovered that as a shy person (with a diplomacy focus) , she didn't want to interact with anyone. Need to sway a vessel . . . you're getting stress, heck most interactions with other people caused stress and it was an amazing challenge to figure out how to get things done differently than you would with another ruler. "Mindset" makes complete sense.
    I started playing like I was playing EU4. Started as Munster, completely decimated everyone around me. Formed Ireland even before first Brian died. My primary heir died but luckily I had a pretty badass daughter. First character died, continued as the daughter. When the succession decision thingy pop-up, I said, naaah, not gonna start a republic here .
    Got Isles, some of Scotland, Some of England, even some of France. Found a new faith. Religious site.
    Then watched the "no heir" icon for around 10 years after realizing my head of house, queen didn't have any heir, and she is 50 years old.
    Then my game was over.
    I will always remember you, Mad-Lauch, Queen of Ireland.
    Edit: I just screwed up 4 more games. Start as Castille, murder one of your brothers and get some easy land. Marry daughters and got some duchies in Tuscany. Then say "fuckit" and start attacking everyone. Be irritated by how a country quarter of your size have twice your army size. Still can't get my CK3 mindset. Too much EU4 in my veins.
    Oh, also, how can I forget, when I see I was 1st in line to succession for couple of duchies in Italy, and started a murder scheme to kill the ruler. And after my scheme was successful, I actually realized, it was my own wife and I actually lost all the claims.

    Excellent video, very helpful.
    I completely agree with your comment about role-playing and the issues tab. However, at least newer players should right-click things that are not realistic achievable at the moment (you can then refresh later to see all the issues again, you don’t lose them by dismissing, it only hides it for the moment.
    For example, I was a small Duke and my issue tab always pointed out that I could declare war on the Byzantine Empire over a small county (yeah, right), or I could create title to a kingdom when I don’t have anywhere near enough gold. It’s great the issues tab points them out, but I like to trim things down to what is achievable now or in the near future.
    Then on January 1 each year or so I refresh the issues tab to quickly see all the issues and again dismiss issues that are not yet “ripe.”

    I think part of my problem as a noob to crusader kings is just not knowing how to play to my advantages.
    Like for example I’m starting as a very diplomacy heavy Viking ruler. I’m aware the general goal is to expand the empire, and as dumb as it sounds I’m not sure how to expand my empire via diplomacy. Do I make alliances then call on them in my wars? Is there a way to convince people to be my vassal? Etc. knowing those nitty gritty details is what is slowin me down a bit

      Di Zon there is a decision bar at the bottom when you go to invite them, if it’s at least +1 when you call them, they will join.
      Things effecting it can be:
      Allied ruler traits (brave gives more chances)
      Opinion
      Time since last war
      Debt
      Relative strength
      Opinion of enemies
      And a few other things.
      I don’t think familial allies can reject the call.

    My big tip would be that you don't have to select the lifestyle associated with your character's education and you don't have to complete full trees.
    There's solid synergy between some of the trees, so dipping into a tree to grab the first couple of perks can be a real boon. Golden Obligations coupled with Truth is Relative can provide a much needed boost in income in the early game. Another example would be a pagan warlord grabbing Flatterer and Benevolent Intent before going deep into the martial lifestyle to better keep all the warriors fighting the right people.

    • @Hektols
      @Hektols 3 года назад

      Agree.
      Some perks are useful for all lifestyles, for example one of the first perks you can get in the Seducer Tree is a fertility bonus, one of the best options at the begining.

      @@Enmerkar_of_Uruk After playing more, I've learned a few things.
      ONE, when starting out, set the difficulty to very easy or easy. There's no shame in having training wheels when you're learning a new game (and CK3 is very much a new game.)
      TWO, allies will always prioritize wars where they are directly involved, over wars where they are allies. Since i'm playing over in tribal eastern europe, this was important 'cause everyone is constantly at war with everyone over there.
      THREE, always leave the default family generation on. I had it off cause I wanted to "breed my own," but no, you need those marriage alliances early and fast.

    The question I have is, how do I keep my territory together after death?
    Was having an amazing play under west Francia in the earlier starting date, as the occitan Duke in the lower region.
    He died right after I claimed independence and stolen his kingdom title Aquitaine.
    The Pope excommunicated me, so I switched to Lollard.
    As Occitans can have the law for equality, his genius daughter was the new liege.
    I had absolutely no problem there. I did everything wonderfully. She lived till her 80s, (wich is the longest you can live actually) consecrated the bloodline, outlived most of her children, stolen the Papacy (Latrium) for the Lollards, funded the holy order, and created the Lollards Pope.
    The absolute legend was exalted among men and a religion icon. She was educated in theology (most of my characters end up like that) and not even a mastermind theologian. But had 47 learning by her 60s.
    Her oldest son was in line to inherit the kingdom of Ireland (for some reason) but he died before that.
    When she finally died, the eldest daughter of her deceased older son was the new liege. Immediately, a faction wanting to put her brother in charge was created. With a total power of 333%, I ruled for nine months, and couldn't do nothing about that. Then they pressed the claim, and I complied.
    I just switched characters.
    After one month, the sister I was playing made an independence faction, and they pressed for it in the next month. I didn't accept it, but most of my vassals were involved. So I just rage quit.
    That seems rather unfair for them to do so. They should at least give me an year or so to rule. What's the point in the "short reign" debuff?

    • @ruukinen
      @ruukinen 3 года назад

      Learn to let go. It's not that important to hold on to everything until later in the game when your laws actually make it possible. If you wanna blob the early game is about seeding your family everywhere around you so you have claims and then just getting a Kingdom and improving the core territories that you always keep. Empires are too hard to keep together in the early game with gavelkind/partition.

    • @CodexSan
      @CodexSan 3 года назад

      @@ruukinen Occitans have really good starting laws.
      They can press for gender equality, and a few years in, they have access to the third type of partition. Where the lion's share of titles are kept by the heir, only minor titles are partitioned. That assured me that they wouldn't split. But that made no sense, since everyone decided to rebel 3 seconds in.

    Tbf there's many different ways of absolutely dominating this game with little effort. My main strategy is to put my capital in Wien, become the archduke of Austria, create the HRE and then just pump everything I have into making Austria as tall as I can, the rest of the empire I'll just leave to the AI and by making my ruling line all about diplomacy I don't have to deal with rebellions. Basically, you're left with a massive treasury, you can always buy mercs, you have everything of value in a single kingdom, and that kingdom is under your direct control, and you've a massive empire that you can always give to the AI if you want a break to focus on your own little kingdom - it's OP!
