- In this video titled I Got The MOST ANNOYING Achievement In EU4 The Way The DEVS INTENDED I play as The USA in EU4 in the 1776 start date and I try to get the only EU4 Achievement which requires you to not start in 1444. This is the achievement Liberty or Death which requires you to own all of you cores while being at peace. The way EU4 players do it is by just losing the war and revoking all of their cores. Today I decided to do it the right way - by winning the American War of Independence.

Absolutely would enjoy watching you get achievements the dev intended way, or just using other start dates
Hawk
Definitely would be nice an achievement guide series!
You eliminated the leader George Washington (the first US President) and kept Benedict Arnold (a traitor). I stopped watching your video at that point.
There's a couple of start dates where the Qing are conquering the Ming dynasty, maybe you could play as ming and save yourself from them in those?
Can't believe bro deleted George Washington and Kept Benedict Arnold
Needed shock pips bruh, George wasn’t shocking enough
@@TheRedHawk sounds like something a British traitor would say. Just like Benedict
@@spartan5018 In this timeline Benedict was respected, so he stayed a patriot
@@derekskelton4187nobody really knows just how bad America treated Benedict Arnold to make him turn
i mean, the reason that Benedict Arnold turned heel was because he felt he was getting shafted by Congress; putting him in charge of the army probably would have kept him loyal to the USA in this time line tbh (as the others said above)
oversimplified in this timeline:
"what happened with that other guy we hired?"
"who?"
"George Washington"
"never heard of him"
"ouch"
Sounds like a really messed up time travel story (movie, episode, etc)
I knew a guy who only played during the “war of the league of cambrai” start
He’s in prison now for killing his whole family but that’s besides the point
I believe it
Not besides the point. The two things are very much related
@@DrClock-il8ij "Very much related" ... this sounds like the beginning of a Hapsburg joke.
@@hoi-polloi1863the war afterall was a family affair; )
I usually play that start date
Me an American seeing you fire Washington: What are you doing?! NOOOOOO....
And kept Benedict Arnold! It just hurts.
Lmao
@@TheRedHawk FYI it would been more historically accurate if they started this in like 1774/1775 in Boston and trickle into NY but whatever. Also, to do Benedicts raid into Quebec.
@@BostonMoose513 Also also, the war didn't last 10 years, did it? That's an awfully long war to fight for a piece of american land, from UK's perspective I mean
@ruffusgoodman4137 Not quite, but pretty close. Concord and Lexington were in 1775, and the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783. So yeah, off and on to start, but it went 8 years.
5:50 TADEUSZ KOŚCIUSZKO he was a polish general who helped US win the independece🇵🇱
There's a town named after him in my state that nobody here has pronounced the right way since probably 1820 lol
@@JethroBulmer yea Polish is hard😅
Australia's tallest mountain and the mountain's national park is also named after him.
@@BoodieJ-c5c yea it was also discovered by Polish guy named Paweł Edmund Strzelecki and there are two main bridges in New York named after him called in Polish mosty Kościuszki🫡
He would be known throughout the land if anyone could pronounce his name
My guy out here rawdogging the revolution without assistance from France
General Washington you're fired lmao
dude....ssooooo uncooll
He went home to Mount Vernon and made whisky instead.

"Let's put Benedict Arnold in charge" :')
You can tell Hawk had fun making this video. He even put on a mullet wig to roleplay as an American.
In the actual war, the British invaded navally at Boston, New York, and the head of the Chesapeake to reach Philadelphia, and invaded from Canada via the Hudson Valley and from Florida to reach the Carolinas. I guess in EU4 they can just swarm you through the wilderness if they want to.
Bro really fired George washington😂
And kept Benedict Arnold!
One thing about the alternate start dates is they show how ridiculously fast colonization happens in a normal game - irl the North American interior was only just beginning to be explored by the game end date of 1821 and independent Native American groups persisted until the turn of the 19th century. Hopefully eu5 is more realistic
It’s because they try to balance the Spanish/portuguese colonization that in real life was so fast for other nations, and the problem is there
But well you also can be an Australian tribe and annex Hungary so you can take what you want 😀
@@santiagonicolasandradeeche9844
But then irl a lot of interior south and central america wasnt explored or directl claimed and controlled for centuriee either.
An independant Inca state was still operating in the 1600s, the Spanish had to wait out a century before the isolation pulled it apart and local colonials invaded in the 1700s.
The Mapuche were still controlling the southern half of Chile and Argentina in the 1800s.
The Maya were still having big rebellions up to the 1800s in the Yucatan War.
Interior Angola and Mozambique werent reached until the late 1800s, and control over the Phillipines was so indirect parts of it like Sulu just openly changed hands.
Honestly quite a lot of colonial conquests the world over were dominating coastlines and connected cities, and spending centuries battling for overlordship not the kind of direct conquest and control you see in games like EU4
I mean, it's a paradox game. Most of the game revolves around ahistorical outcomes.
@@santiagonicolasandradeeche9844 Because 1. The Spanish were subjugating pre-existing nations in Meso and South America. 2. They kind of just "claimed" most of the land they "colonized" without actually controlling it. 3. They barely settled or developed their colonies, seeing them as resource pools more than anything else.
@@coloradoing9172 This is not completely true. There was very real control in the colonies, you're just seeing it the wrong way.
Spain wasn't in Peru and Mexico to colonize, but to conquer. For example in the Inca Empire they demanded allegiance to the native nobility, had them pay taxes, get baptized, teach Spanish to their lords, paved roads, built forts to keep them loyal. The disloyal native noble houses would have their lands taken and their leaders executed. It was a take over, and more than that, a conquest. Not at all mere claims, there was very real power.
Yes it wasn't super centralized, but that's just how feudalism works. The actual system of government used was already seen in Spanish Netherlands and the K. of Naples.
That there were only a few Spanish towns in South America doesn't matter at all because that was never the point. That Cuzco had a low Spanish population was as much of a non-issue as Brussels having a low Spanish population. Would you say Spain "merely claimed" the Netherlands, just because it was ruled by a viceroy, and below him the local nobles, and a low population of Spaniards?
18:04 "America doesnt have nobles... at least not in the game" I loled
I was literally about to comment this
Got this achievement a while ago. Didn't even think about losing and removing cores, nor knew people were doing it. Thought it was gonna be super difficult, but turned out super fun like in your run. Wish later dates got more love.
When I did this achievement I sat around for 10 or 15 years and no British troops showed up. Eventually the option to white peace came up and that was that. This was back in 2018 though and from memory the AI had big troubles with naval transportation and landings
5:50 Kościuszko mentioned 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🦅🦅🦅🦅💪💪💪
This was one of the first achievements I got in this game. After finishing my first campaign I decided to try the different start dates so I chose this one, got the achievement winning the war I didn’t know about the revoking cores😂
Never liked Washington anyway. Benedict Arnold gave us some a nice way to make eggs, so I guess his contribution is just better. More of these alternate timestamps please!
although I just realized that Arnold, DC as our nations capital doesn't sound as good as Washington, DC
Imagine if the polish guy became the first president
@@Kidus34Don’t forget the new state on the west coast called “Arnold”!
I really hope that EU5 has a bigger focus on logistics, ngl, cuz in EU4 its pretty easy to ignore things like weather, terrain, distance from your own borders, and attrition if you just overwhelm the enemy with sheer numbers
To be fair, they gave up fighting Great Britain because they realized they were losing so much time not because they couldn’t defeat them. Every year wasted fighting Britain was a year that they could’ve been expanding, which was the mission objective.
It also generally unpopular at home
I'm having a stroke watching you can Washington and promoting Arnold. Speed running losing the war irl.
Given that in modern EU4 it's rare for regions to fall behind in tech like they used to, and that's very much still a thing in alternative start dates, perhaps it's something you could try? It'd be tough no doubt, but being able to save some of the great Indian, Asian, or African nations from European domination could be epic.
This might be not so big a challenge for nations like Qing or Mughals (who are at a 4 tech disadvantage in 1700 for example, but are still powerhouses), but someone like Kongo or the Rozwi Empire have a 6 tech disadvantage, and the Portugese on their doorstep.
There's also lots of cool tags pop out in the later start dates that players won't often see, which could be a good jumping off point.
if you slack recruitment before any manpower debate / event it doubles how much you recieve
Good tip right there

Me, initially: “Why didn’t he release this July 4th?”
Me, after he fires Washington: “Ohhhhhhhh”
I didn't know about the cancel Core thing. Basically bankrupted the colonies to do it. So semi historical I guess lol
Of course you'd keep that traitor lol
Buffalo!
UK offering peace at 16:21 and I'm like "CLICK IT GODDAMMIT"
You know it's eu4 when in the American revolution suddenly war elephants appear
Hawk: Deletes George Washington
Me: Not my America!
The alternate Startdate videos are nice, keep goin Hawk
I beat the British a few years back. I remember part of the strat was just constantly beating up their navy so that they can't transfer more troops over to the continent. Then just use your army to keep beating up theirs and eventually you'll gain enough warscore to win your independence
the most important key to winning this war is to act like you're getting full annexed and thus losing if you do fail. max loans, merc stacks, whatever. once you start acting like you lose if you fail, and thus go all in, then it becomes far easier than if you do otherwise.
Lets gooooo, Kościuszko mentioned. Poland strong
Benedict Arnold “I think he’s historical”
If you only knew…
"History started on July 4th 1776, everything before that was a mistake."
- Ron Swanson
Man, this is why the U.S. is lucky a meta gamer didn’t found it. George Washington was really not that great of a general, he got lucky with some European help and a neat little river crossing, but he was a great and humble leader so that’s why we remember him so well, literally just “he was a good guy” with a side of leadership skills. A meta gamer would actually have fired Washington though, this is accurate. 🤣
So, ladies and gentlemen after being at war with Great Britain for 10 years, and establishing Sunday schools, I think that's enough man.
Tbh this series is making me regret that paradox didn't put more effort and content into the other starts
The fact that Washington was fired and Kościuszko wasnt is outstanding
Alternative Take - RedHawk origin of American deficit.
I'm surprised this video is so long. From the Red Hawk I expected to see a cut and hear 'Alright, alright, the war is done' immediately after the estates setup ;P
Bruh the alt start date runs so goofy with being 10 years old. Love it.
This was the best video I've ever seen made by CdawgVA with eggmans moustache
"Let's get rid of these extra generals"
*deletes George Washington immediately*
Played as Mughals starting it in 1579 recently. Didn't have spare time, couldn't be bothered to form them. Still conquered Malacca, half of Africa and Ottomans. Also played Tokugawa and Dzungar before. There are some applications for alternate startdates, they can also be plenty of fun, it's just not as fun it terms of nation building as you have a part of the campaign, where your development is slowed down to historical metrics.
"benedict arnold , i think these guys are actually historical" lol
Keeping Benedict Arnold is insane.
10:10 - Free Company's First regiment: "Braddock's 1st Mercenary"

'that's the way almost every player has done this'
me, having done it legit by winning the war, not knowing i couldve just done that: -_-
The red hawk tuah
Love the alt start challenges of all sorts. Great achievement
I was able to do this very easily but in like version 1.33
Basically the AI was trash and they would naval invade with waves of like 10k, so you just wiped out each wave until you got some WS and then peace out
I didn’t know about the revoking cores strategy when I got this achievement… it was painful
5:45 welp, in the words of Haytham Kenway about Washington: "We're all be better off without him".
Uncle Sam is smiling upon this video. Actually loved this one!
No he's not. He'd be angry about George Washington getting fired.
Never seen this game before in my life but canning George Washington without second thought hurt me to my core
I laughed so hard at this elephant landing in America 18:40
Dude...i did this achievement a few years back and i won the war so easily and got this achievement....why would i lose the war with GB?
The war is not so difficult.
I got this achievement a few years ago by legitimately winning the war. It took some work but basically the strategy was to basically wear down the invasion forces while I built up an economy at war, not easy but is doable. Eventually I got enough money scraped together to have a couple of merc stacks and a basic Navy, but I ended up not needing the Navy, I just kept retaking the provinces they were able to capture and after a couple of years their desire to continue the war after a couple of years collapsed as they were not able to hold their gains and then they got into a War in Europe and that was existential to them so I was able to peace out by holding my own.
It really felt like I was George Washington because I avoided strong stacks until I had the forces to corner their large stacks, once that happened and the war in Europe triggered, I had enough warscore to peace out for money.
Funnily enough, I easily won the war against Great Britain and unlocked the achievement. As a new EU4 player with only 113 hours on Steam, I never imagined this achievement could be considered a difficult one. I simply won the war of independence and claimed all the territories I could and that was it.
Edit: When I got it, I had probably under 70 hours of gameplay, I just really wanted to play as America.
Bro fired Washington AND Nathaniel Greene for a traitor. You sir have made me irate with that choice lol
I thought it was pretty fun, nice change of pace
I got this achievement by holding my coast against invasions then just offering Britain like 950 ducats for peace lol
I honestly didn't know about the core revoke strategy on that achievement. But I also never felt that war to be particularly challenging 😅
It would be cool if they add an event where France, Spain, and the Netherlands enter on the American side since that happened in real life.
Ah yes the legendary Free Company that aided me in uniting all Germany as Prussia is now aiding the USA truly a great mercenary company.
It's funny if you try to save the game after you finish for same pain
Please
It's been a couple of months since I last watched Hawk's videos and I just got flashbanged by his long hair :)
Why are these games Honored for their supposed realism When this could not be farther from the truth?
In CK2, there was the Outside bet achievement and I allied France and the HRE, kicking Normandy out of their war and once I took England, I just stopped playing that save because fixing it was not worth the time, I got the achievement and that's all I needed. xD
I got this achievement 9 years ago the intended way.
I remember doing this achievement the correct way a couple years ago, but forgot to click Ironman mode.
CBF doing it ever again XD
i wonder if that one is easier on older patches. when start dates weren't so broken
Yeah, those boys were all historical, even that Washington guy 🤣
Jokes apart, great video Hawk ❤
We needed cores on Quebec and Ontario, too though. Got robbed irl. 😂
I did this the "intended way"... That time I did not know all the easy shenanigans 😢
I see the Joe Dirt look is coming along nicely.
"another battle in Charlottesville"
oh no
Actually insane you deleted Washington but kept Arnold!
Yes, you should play an alternate start date once in a while
You removed the competition from taking his glory. Now, he won’t be a traitor. lol
Didnt know there is a easier way to do this achivment. I did it "harder way" years ago and I remember it was extremly easy ;o
Nice work! Er... except for that whole GW business, that kinda stings. I still think you should have grabbed some of that sweet, sweet Canadian land, just for kicks.
I completed this the legit way by March 1779
I only had like 30 war score, and GB was still green war enthusiasm. But I built a bunch of forts and I think that deterred them enough to let me peace them out.
Bro got rid of George Washington and Nathaniel Greene, but kep benedict arnold. Wtf. lmao
Yes… Benedict Arnold is historical… as a traitor
tadeusz kościuszko mentioned 🇵🇱
I didn't know this was meant to be a hard challenge; I did it on like my 2nd try without doing any tricks
I got that achievement ages ago, when it was just added to the game.
Things were different back then
9:30 the manpower thingy was right there, I swear I was screaming at the screen
I actually did this a few years ago, not too hard if you focus on navy and take a shit ton of loans.
I did this a long time ago and at the time it was super easy because GB never sent more troops over
What’s the weird white border in the middle of the US?
This is easy if you just build couple well placed forts at the start. I didn't even have dlc to use parliament when I did this, but war still were super easy to white peace.
i miss bald super villain hawk
"That's the way almost every player has done this super, super easy achievement"
For me who cheesed many others achievements but not this one and managed to repel the British and conquer almost all USA actual territory (without Alaska and Hawaii), I feel satisfaction when I hear this.
Hawk, where is eu4 formable nations????
Why not ditch Plutocratic at the start and use the points refund to get some ways into Quantity?
Every Fourth of July, I boot up the game on this start date (Extended Timeline mod so I can play for a good while) and try and do our forefathers proud by beating the Red Coats. It’s always fun and challenging to play a nation that starts at war with someone.
Hell yeah
The Hessian troops was more akin to the Condottieri in the game. They were not allied to GB.
