ABOUT THE GOOD PLACE
From creator Michael Schur (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Master of None”) comes a unique comedy about what makes a good person. The show follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, “House of Lies,” “Veronica Mars”), an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife, and thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place (which is definitely where she belongs). While hiding in plain sight from Good Place Architect Michael (Ted Danson - “Cheers,” “CSI” - in an Emmy Award-nominated performance), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and earn her spot.

The biggest surprise is at Tahani didn't know or have a story about Ariana Grande.
That's because Tahani didn't recognize Ariana with her clothes on, as she's only seen her before in her own private love grotto on the invisible moon of Venus.
Ariana obviously is a lower echelon person.

If Tahani died in 2016, before or right around the time Dangerous Woman first dropped, then it makes sense that she doesn’t know Ariana because Ari hadn’t skyrocketed to the status she had in 2018/2019. Ariana probably wasn’t famous enough for Tahani to meet or care for her yet. Other than that stool meme from her first album, Ariana was best known for Nickelodeon shows & dating Mac Miller. She wasn’t at Taylor Swift & Kanye level yet.
As someone who has lived in Jacksonville FL, I can say this is about 98% accurate.

@@MrSirBoastAlot oh how I wish it was. The whole jet ski and manatee is very real and in fact a big problem. The whole DJ thing is hysterically spot on as Jax has no real nightlife in that regard so all those other cities would be a step up.😂 And the most accurate part is the scene where they land in Florida and he shouts "DUVAL!!" and half the ppl shout it back to him. That is a legit thing down here, go to any sporting event or where a large crowd is and you'll hear that being yelled throughout the event.
Whoever wrote the character either lived in Jacksonville or knew ppl from here because they took all of the weird Floridian things, added goofy dumb charm and created one of the best characters on TV. 😆

What always tickles me is that Manny Jacinto is playing like the most aggressively swamptown American character on the show and yet, he's a Canadian with an Engineering degree from a west coast suburb. Brilliant.

I think Jason is literally "J's son", he's a Disco-Janet-baby, and his birth was her canonballing into the pool at Donkey Doug's ("welcome to the family", he'll have anyone join, Jason is NOT his "SON{son}", but maybe was created from a speck {dot} in her eye when Disco Janet loved Donkey Doug in their hottub "That line's never failed, you must really love him"). He knew his mother as/was a "DJ" , which spurred his career choice (albeit as more of a Dance-Jockey than a Disc one). "You wish you were related to a woman you want to have sex with" (Tahani to Jason re:Ariana Grandé) is funnier again because of their "mommy-girlfriend"/son-boyfriend relationship, and our-Janet and Jason's innocent sex diagrams for trying at Mindy's.
Bonus foil:Bad-Janet made babies to lighten her proverbial load in the bad place ("I choose to"), they're the ones we see red-tied-in the bad place. "Why don't you roll off your mom and do not yourself" (Bad-Janet to Main/first-baby) is even funnier when the same applies, in their case, they both laugh because they have all the info to get the joke fully :)

Some of my favorite parts in The Good Place was when Jason would say something stupid but it would actually sorta make the point that was trying to be made.
This is the best show I've seen for a long time. Who would have thought that a show about ethics, existentialism, the question of whether the human race has any redeeming qualities at all and making fun of people from Florida could work so well? It's got it all! I want to know how the hell this show was pitched!?

More remarkable than all that was getting it onto a US broadcast network in prime time. Hell, getting it on network TV in any time slot was remarkable. I think it all came down to Michael Schur's reputation.
This show truly is brilliant and full of heart. I believe Micheal Schur told the studio that he had Ted Danson and Kristen Bell on board so they let him do whatever he wanted. I could be wrong though

(Ok, this is going to sound weird) I loved Manny's delivery which gave the first non-Perfect Asian character I'd seen on screen. And Jason is just so loveable and pure, that I just wanna give him a big Mumma-hug and read to him

Having been to Jacksonville, I can say this is totally accurate.
I've always liked to pretend that Florida Man is a superhero, or rather, wants to be but is actually too Chaotic Neutral to really fufill the "hero" part. Watching this is like finding proof that I'm right and also his secret identity.
I'm traveling around Florida for the winter, just passed through Jacksonville, and I can confirm that this is pretty spot on.

Someone else made this point in under another comment. The show started 4 years ago, Ariana was famous but may not have been as big in 2015. If you even do a quick Google search you see in 2015 she was really only a year out of her last Nickelodeon show.

I mean, valid, but also she's friends with A-list celebrities. The show started in 2016 which is also the same year that Dangerous Woman came out which is arguably the album that made Ariana an A-list popstar - that's not me saying she wasn't famous before, just not as big as she is now - so maybe Tahani died just before that album dropped. I can definitely imagine she wouldn't be interested in anything but the top tier of celebrities.

It's not that weird. Tahani name drops giant celebrities like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and Ryan Reynolds. And Ariana Grande doesn't really fit into that list. Beyonce is a legend, Taylor Swift is one of the top 10 selling artists of all time, Ryan Reynolds has a Hollywood Star. Other people she name drops are spiritual leaders, one percenters, and royalty.
I don't think she doesn't recognise Ariana. She asks if Ariana is a relation of Jason's in a "Is the reason that poster is up there because you're her cousin or something (and therefore of a decent social status making me feel better about you), or is it just because you're trash?" kind of way.
Best part is I grew up in Jacksonville but moved to Sarasota when I got a better job haha. So yay for two places I’ve lived being in the show haha
