Acne scar treatment using fractional CO2 laser. Acne scar before and after photos are included in this video. Dr. Behnam performs CO2 fractional laser as the gold standard for acne scar removal. FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER RESURFACING PRE-OP:
-Darker skin patients typically use a bleaching cream called Hydroquinone 1 to 4 weeks prior to the procedure. This is used to reduce the pigmentation on the face.
- Patients start an oral antibiotic called Keflex one day prior to the procedure. They also sart Acyclovir, which is an oral antiviral, one day prior to procedures as well. They continue these medications for 6 days after the procedures. These medications prevent bacterial and viral infections.
DAY OF PROCEDURE:
-Patients arrice 2 hours prior to procedure
-Strong topical numbing is applied to the face for 1 hour
-20 minutes prior to the procedure, Demerol shot is administered by Dr. Behnam. This is a pain killer that will help ease the pain during the procedure.
THE CO2 LASER PROCEDURE:
-THe numbing cream is wiped off, and the face is cleaned.
-Dr. Behnam is the only one that performs the procedure. No nurse will ever do the procedure. Only a doctor knows the best laser setting for you so that there are no complications and that you get the best result.
-Once the laser is tuned on and goggles are placed on your eyes, a chiller machine is turned on that chills your face during the procedure. This is for your own comfort.
-Dr. Behnam then performs the co2 laser procedure on the face. He uses the double pass technique. He performs two passes on the most stubborn acne scars to make them smoother.
POST PROCEDURE:
-Once the CO2 procedure is done, a cold town is p[laced on your face for 15 minutes
-Then Vaseline is applied to the face
-Post-op instructions are reviewqed in detail with the patient. This includes applying Vaseline very few hours and doing venigar soaks.
-Post op medications: Patients will take Acyclovir, Keflex, Prednisone Triamcinolone cream and sometimes Vicodin for pain. All of these medications will be explained in detail by Dr. Behnam himself before the patient goes home.
-Patient leaves the office and will follow up with Dr. Behnam in one week
FAQ:
1. How many treatments are needed?
This depends on the degree of acne scars, severity of acne scars, and skin type. Typically 2 to 3 sessions are needed.
2. I have had laser treatments and saw no improvement. Should I try the CO2 laser?
Not all lasers are the same. CO2 is the gold standard and most patients do see an improvement. Many times not enough energy is used or multiple sessions are needed. This is why it is so improvement for the procedure to be performed by a dermatologist and not just a nurse practitioner.
