I LOVE learning from you! I started horehound from seed this year and it's ready for harvest. I had no idea how to use it, but now I do! Thank you, April!
39 years ago a friend gave us a gallon jug of honey. The kind of jug that has a small opening. We were very poor at the time and were just thrilled to have it! It was crystallized and my husband set it above the pilot light on our propane cookstove. We were sitting at the table eating dinner together, and we heard a "pop!" The glass jug had cracked. All that honey oozed down into the stove and then over on the floor beside the flue and down into the basement. It was a mess, yes, but we were heartbroken. I'm growing horehound this year and so am going to make some of this infused honey. Thank you!
Love your videos. I'm slowly going thru them all. I am 57 and slowly learning medicinal herbs & proper way to make them into useful products. As well as growing as much as i van, foregoing for when i can't or don't have at this time. My sister in law is a retired veterinarian and has used herbal meds on her own animals for cuts & injuries as well. It is wonderful to have a source to go to that i am comfortable with, your channel. There r so many out there that r just flying by the seat of their pants, not knowing what they r doing but encouraging their followers to do what they do. Thank you for what you do & being yourself in your videos
I’m so into what you’re teaching! I have some beautiful mesquite honey that I’m fermenting garlic and chili with and now I’m going to infuse some honey with horehound too. I’m also keeping notes from your videos. You are so generous with this information and fun to hang out with! Thank you
Thanks so much for this video. I live in New Mexico and horhound grows all over my property wild. I just went out and trimmed some and infused it in honey while watching your videos. I'm inspired 😻
I just knew you'd be my go to goddess for info on horehound! I planted horehound seeds this year so that I can add to my medicinal herbs in my garden and was hoping to find a clear tutorial of how to use her once she's grown. As always you came through. It may be a few years later since you posted this video, but the knowledge you share is timeless. Thank you for being so generous with your gifts. I love your videos. ~ Blessed be.
I just completed my first batch of Horehound infused honey! I cannot thank you enough! This information is invaluable and what a gift from our beloved earth! 😘
OMG your story about the burnt out billowy wood stove reminds me of my days loading our wood stoves on the farm in the cold winters lol... Pitch and creosote.... Need I say more lol
I found some horehound today (I think white horehound) and I knew you’d have something lovely to say about how to prepare this as medicine! Thank you so much for all that you share. I am a sporadic herbal student and when I am struck by a plant I really appreciate the info that I can go down a rabbit hole with, and you are a go-to resource for me for sure. I appreciate you! My friend told me this is where root beer came from, too, which is so cool. Also heard she’s good for painful menstruation, and as a midwife and fertility specialist I am always seeking herbs that are friendly to the uterus. I’m so excited to grow my relationship to her. Thank you thank you thank you!
I didnt know what horehound was. My dad always got the candy but I had no idea that it was such a good thing to help like this. Thank you for sharing. No I gotta find some hourhound.
I trust YOU! Some say that you shouldn’t heat honey beyond 140F? I heated mine to your recommended heat setting to ensure that I removed the bacteria. I realize that you shouldn’t boil it and perhaps that’s the concern?
Love your videos!! I feel more hopeful of getting my life back and learning more about the herbs and medicines in the infusions and tinctures. I have been very ill for a long time and your videos truly give me hope..
My husband loves horehound candy too and what inspired me to buy the seeds last year. I want to try to find a recipe for making the candy which of course can also be dropped in to tea for medicinal uses. I just found this channel and looking forward to seeing what's next. Anna In Ohio
Sorry to be a stickler but as a beekeeper honey cannot be over 18 - 20 %moisture or it will ferment, we use a refrctometer to check the water content. Perhaps it is different in your country,. Love the vids can't wait for the tour of the new "gaff" as we say 😊
Hello, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ❤ I just forage some horehound and I did wash off the dirt . It been raining and it muddy outside . Is that okay , will it still ferment?
I probably missed it at the beginning of your video. Can you clarify how and when to use this honey? Is it something you’d want to limit dosage on? What are the benefits? I’ve only had horehound as a tea from my yard and it’s not pleasant.
Once it is strained and heated, do you store it in the fridge or is it shelf stable? Does heating the honey kill the good things that make raw honey so beneficial for you? Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us :-)
Once it's been heated it is shelf stable as long as you keep it in a cool type covered you know not like directly above your oven or anything like that. No it does not get hot enough to kill off the beneficial properties of the honey you have to get up until like the 250 Fahrenheit degree range before it becomes pasteurized💕
Yes that is the case if you're going to be holding it at that temp for the sake of pasteurization, but what a lot of people don't realize it's simply hitting a temperature does not create pasteurization it's the long time frame of holding it there. So bringing your honey up to 200 degrees and then shutting off the heat does not create pasteurization it is simply hot enough to kill off the yeast colonization that has occurred creating fermentation. But this is something entirely different than standard honey that has nothing infused in it for sure, if I was simply processing raw honey that had not been send out with water from a plant infused in it I would never bring it up to that temp💕
@@sheisofthewoods love this video I’ve watched it many times! Would bringing it up to the hard crack range (300 degrees F) so I can make it into cough drops kill the medicinal properties? Thank you!
I have a really small single plant but I won’t let it go to waste maybe get a pint jar⁉️ Better than nothing lol might be a long cold winter this year. I am trying to stock up on everything just in case
I’ve noticed when I eat those cough drops you just described. I have a lot of mucus. I could go with no mucus and then eat a cough drop and be full of it so I stopped eating them.
Hi, hope you are doing well! I am making horehound infused honey today! My honey is raw and somewhat crystalized, and I spooned it over the plant material.. I was wondering if I were to keep in a warm place like near not on my wood stove or in my gas oven with just the pilot on ( that’s where a I make yogurt, raise bread and sometimes even help a chick hatch in an emergency l! 😂) would it infuse in less time, would it be okay...what are your thoughts on this. Much love
Yep, you'll need to keep it pretty warm for a few weeks so it can infuse a bit better because without the liquid from the fresh plants it doesn't infuse as readily.
If it's fresh it needs to be in a cool dark place & strain it by 6 weeks. Also really keep an eye out for mold/rancidity due to how moisture dense the buds are.
Thankyou Wild Woman Sister..
I ❤ these visits to your Mountain kitchen..Blessedness for the Sharing

I just want to thank you for showing me that my land is full of amazing plants! I just found Horehound and this video and I'm pretty excited.
Can we use the stems of Horehound in the honey and tinctue? Cuz if not I wasted a whole lot a honey! Haha

What is the recommended dosage for this honey?
Hello, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ❤
I just forage some horehound and I did wash off the dirt . It been raining and it muddy outside . Is that okay , will it still ferment?
I would like to know more. Did you use white horehound? Also where can I buy the seeds so I can grow it myself. Love your videos.
Wow. What is interesting to me is I know I dreamt about you last night because when I saw your tattoo I was shocked. Very cool.
Thank you!
Should I be extra cautious of little air bubbles? I used a chopstick to push the plant matter down into some honey and I didn’t heat it.
Thank you for another great video! Informative and so fun! Where did you get your training?
Just found you. Ladybug you are awesome!
Oops, I washed the horebound in water...do I let it dry overnight before adding honey ? Thanks Honey🌞 Luv your channel!

@sheisofthewoods can I also make a vinegar with horehound? Do I use leaves only, or leaves and stems? Many thanks!
You can, leaves and stems are fine ☺️

In my local beekeepers association meeting they said not to get honey above 140°.

Oh shit mine has been fermenting since april and it’s July 21! 😮

You'd for sure need to put it somewhere warm even if just for the sake of un crystallizing the honey, the heat will shave a little time off 3-4 days❤
Horehound was my nickname in college
Thank you.
I wanted to try making mullein honey 🍯
I can’t drink alcohol.. do you know any substitutions?
🌹
Do we just bring it to 170-200 and then shut it off???
Can you make this same thing with dried horehound?
Yep, you'll need to keep it pretty warm for a few weeks so it can infuse a bit better because without the liquid from the fresh plants it doesn't infuse as readily.
Do we pour warm honey in jar of horehound or is that a no no.
Lol 😆 Your sooo funny.
What if horehound is flowering ? Lil bud sticker like ball ?
You can still use her😊
Bring it to what temp 170?
I am making decarbed cannabis from fresh plant material in oil to make salve. Should it be put in a warm place or cool place.
If it's fresh it needs to be in a cool dark place & strain it by 6 weeks. Also really keep an eye out for mold/rancidity due to how moisture dense the buds are.
Can I use fresh horehound I’ve had in the freezer for a year?
Yep yep but be mindful it will have more moisture due to ice crystals & fermentation might be a bit more active.
@@sheisofthewoods Thank you.
You must spend a fortune on honey and vodka
🙂
All my horehound floated to the top !
Is that ok ?
Yep yep just push it down every few days😊
With alpine horn ricola

My horehound is white horehound, does that matter.
