  • Following on from my last video where I changed the engine and air filter oil. I changed the well overdue oil from both front and rear differentials, gearbox and transfer case. I explain what oil I used and oil quantities. Hope you enjoy the video and find it useful. Please like and subscribe and leave me a comment. Cheers Jamie

Hi Jamie, greetings from Lieto. I really like your videos, top work. As I also own a land rover series I have a few tips and tricks. Always loosen the fill plug before the drain plug, because its hard to fill the oil afterwards if can't get the fill plug open. I would also change oils in the front hubs/swivel housings oil, steering box and steering relay. Series 3 109'' have a stronger rear axle, its called a salisbury type diff. The front are a rover type diff. Best regards, Jonas

Hi Jonas, Nice to hear from you and thanks so much for your kind comment.
Really good points you made and information. I mentioned the filler plug but I had only just realized it was a good idea while doing the last one on the diffs😁 I will look into changing all you have mentioned with the hubs and steering etc. I also learnt today that its a good idea to clean the pressure relief valves in the diffs and gearbox. I'm new to these Land Rovers and really enjoying learning about them.
I heard you had a Land Rover and I will have to come and visit.
Take care and hope to see you soon. Jamie

2.5 litres will be for a rebuilt box which is dry thats why you could only fit 2.3 in and there might of been a bit of variation in the bottles. As long as your on level ground and fill until it comes out your fine.
I bought a series 3 truck around April last year and the oils were some of the first jobs that i carried out.

Thank you for your comment. Yes its always nice to change all the fluids on a new purchase. Especially when there is no way of knowing when they were last changed. Jamie

Running the engine isn't going to do much to warm up the tranfer case or diffs. It might warm up the gearbox a bit since parts are spinning but not that much.
Taking the vehicle on a short drive (10-20 minutes) will warm up the trans and transfer case.

Yes you're completely right and realized after I had thought about it. I let it drain for a while and change regularly. Defiantly more regularly than it has been 😂 Jamie

It's super cool and think quite hard to find. Luckily I didn't have to look for it as was given too me. I'm actually going to get the history of the car. I actually met a previous owner last week that is a customer. I didn't know he had owned it. Was also featured in an advert many years ago and looked exactly how it does now 😊
