Thanks for the detailed info. Just changed the oil in the overdrive of my 1965 series 2a. Bit difficult for Landy breathing here in Telluride at 9600 ft, but gets by.
Unless you do an oil change very very frequently, the oil will come out blacker and blacker as time goes on, petrol or diesel. Mine was still quite goldeny brown as it had not done many miles.

I replaced the sump gasket on my series 3 a few years ago, I had about 5mil of crap in the bottom of it 👍

... i dont know should oil be black from a petrol motor? perhaps too long oil change?
