"Jam up the crank" sure I was dancing to that back in the 80's...

Mike I have for 100years of coper washers. My father was an army mechanic.
    Cheers King Mike! 🥃

You are awesome. Did you make any distributor timing video on same engine?

I forget whose oilpan, but the neighbor would flatten the area around the bolt holes on the sump gasket side. Probably used cork gasket and overtighten.

Looking great Mike, and the engine too. Glad to see it’s all come together. I had loads of copper washers left too when I rebuilt my 2.25, but mines from a defender. I know you’ve said yours is but your manifold looks different to mine?
Good luck with the last touches
    Tristan

If it doesn't leak oil, will it still be classified as a Land Rover engine?

Not really but I may have to drill a discrete 1mm hole in the sump high up so it splashes all over!

Mine had it’s MOT last week and it had the annual advisory ‘oil leak’ 😂

I'm sure Fred Dibnah worked on the 2.25 in his own Series.

You mentioned that this pump is notorious for losing it’s prime. This one is completely dry, how will it be primed?
When I ran a P5B Rover Coupe I had the genuine workshop manual - this recommends filling the pump with vaseline when fitting a “new” pump.
    Have you tried this Mike?

Mike said the 300tdi is notorious for losing its prime whereas these engines have the pump down at oil level so self prime.

If you recall, I did say I already stripped and put Vaseline in the pump but it is submerged in oil so irrelevant

If you use silicone on the sump gasket why is it necessary to use a gasket at all, is it because Landies always had a sump gasket?
I haven't used a gasket on a sump for a while now, the good gasket forming silicones are the perfect insurance against a leak when applied properly.

Belt and braces on this old engine! But yes i could have used RTV only

imho it has some advantages to use gaskets. first in the future its more easy and its unlikely to damage the sump or the surface while desmounting it from the block.you can get quit easy between them with a proper tool like mikes famous dismounting device.
second normaly the sump and/or the mounting surface from the machineblock are pretty beaten up dueto abuse or bad instalation in the past, who knows, this engines are quit old, so its doble insuarance to avoid oilleaks.
i would even aply aditional amount of this silicone in the rin of the mounting device of the rear oilseal of the crankshaft
