Mike it's been really interesting watching you do the job I did on my engine 18 years ago, with me thinking did I do all of these items correctly or not, a bit like wondering if you have switched the gas off when you leave the house. Anyway after 18 years I've had not problems with the engine so I probably did it OK. My nemisis was the distributor drive, a bitch of a job which I got wrong and the distributor is out of alignment which I only found out when I had completed the rebuild and the engine and bodywork back. I never had the heart to fix it so have lived with it being in the wrong position. I'm kind of glad that you also found it to be a tricky job so I don't feel so incompetent anymore.

YES! And I realized I made a boob in the end - I scrapped yesterdays video and going to do it again as even though I had the distributor drive in the right place - for a diesel - but not for a petrol! Was 180 degrees out!

Had to laugh with the magnetic torch, I did the same thing yesterday at work.

What a timely bit of work. I just placed the new cam in yesterday. Gear, Tapits, and the lovely distributor drive next. Really appreciate the part about leaving the oil pump till later. Could have easily made this part that more challenging. Happy Boxing Day!

@@BritannicaRestorations Good afternoon from Connecticut. Basically had the engine completely together but something was not correct. Very hard to turn over. Took everything apart and discovered the rear main bearing was too long and riding on the crank. Cautiously removed material fitting and checking as I went. Just took a fraction off the inside edge of bearing. Bearings torqued and crank turns over very nice now. Your videos are very informative and enjoyable to watch.

aah , the old magnetic torch .. the amount of time i've wasted looking for bolts that were stuck to it isn't funny ( but it's always funny when it happens to someone else ) .. lol

Once again a HUGE thank you for such excellent videos. I am up to the point of installing the timing chain, however I have noticed that my Timing Chain Cam gear doesn't have any markings on it. Based on the diagrams and your video I could easily add some, however is the angle from the P that the woodruff goes into exactly 90 degrees to the P that lines up with the hole on the case?

Yes, there should be markings - but not always.
The P should be on the camshaft pulley keyway and as you said 90 degrees to the straight line from the bolt hole in the block through to the centre of the cam.
IF the chain is still slack, do not move the cam, but remove the pulley until the chain is tight - the keyway spacings are not even and allow you to have 1/6th of a tooth adjustment
I find it is best with the head on with all the pushrods and valve gear in and at TDC to hold the cam in position

Hi Mike beware the single splin that they will sell as a replacement spoxet for the 2.25 petrol & diesel. Will not work on the diesel engine. As you say we will not be able to split between the chain links 1/2 a tooth you can not buy anything that looks like the oem cam gear here in Australia when it stop flooding I will replace the $88 cam gear. Yes it was a waste of time and money.l too like jobs done well.thank you for your videos I did get 22 year's out of the old camgear it was weld to the camshaft it ran well in that time now it is fully rebuild but can not set exhaust peak with this camgear

Hi Mike, just a request. The end credits rolling over the footage makes it hard to see what's going on for the last bit of the video. The bit on the distributor drive gear position was very hard to see. Could you run the list of supporters maybe after the content? Thanks.

Just trying to put the oil pump drive gear back in and final lined up the master spline, when I try to line up the hole for the grub screw, i have to lift the whole body of the drive gear up about the length of the hole to get it lined up, which means the whole thing will be resting on the grub screw, is this correct?

Hmmm my 2.25 the key on the top only fit's in one direction. I installed it wrong and had to change the number one lead. 180° or was there something I was doing wrong?
