    Good work on this Detroit. For me this would be the perfect engine for a tracked skidsteer if the t after the 53 means turbocharged. It would sound perfect on a cat rubber tracked skidsteer with one of those brush mulchers on the front. I can just hear it working.

      Thanks, yes this is turbo charged. It's going to power an old Ingersoll Rand 375 CFM compressor. Should sound awesome.:) The skidsteer would be a fun conversion.:)

    How did you get to be so knowledgeable about these old Detroits? I would love to have one for a project when I retire but I think most of the experts have moved on and I’m afraid I would just have a shop anchor.

      It's from 40 years of working on diesel and gas engines. I'm new to Detroit's as in only 12 years, but I understand how they work and they are really simple. Once you've read the manuals a couple of time and then worked on them it all falls into place. I refer to the manual all the time incase I've forgotten any details.:)

    Fantastic videos. As I understand, the cam and balance shaft can be swapped on some of these, so the head can be put on with the exhaust facing the other way?

      Thanks, yes the head can be swapped with the exhaust on either side. As well the engine can be configured to run right or left hand rotation. Thanks for watching.:)

    Hey Boss, question for you. Have a 353 that was running great, rebuilt a year ago. Changed oil and found a sheared metal keyway, like what would hold the gears on the shaft in place. Since then, 10 hours of operation, the machine has progressively ran poorer/weaker and now it won't start. Do you think the sheared key could have displaced the timing? Thank you kindly

      Yes that's definitely possible. If it's from either the crank or cam gear then that would throw the timing way off.:) Thanks for watching.:)

    So you’re building it with blower right side, exhaust out the left side? Going to run the turbo outlet through an intercooler or straight over the rocker cover to the blower input?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  3 года назад

      Yes, blower is a bypass blower and will be intercooled running 5A60 injectors. Will plan a 1200-1500 idle and governed at around 2100 or so. Be running a 375 cfm compressor.

      @@detroitgarage9430 I remember N45 injectors in naturally aspirated truck engine 53s, N55 for turbo truck engines, and N65s in twin turbo 6v53 marine engines(I think! It's been a long time). Did the silver 53s have different camshafts from the previous models? I vaguely remember the we advanced one tooth on camshaft timing for turbo models back in the 1970s. Didn't know they ever did a bypass blower, looking forward to seeing how that works..

      @@PeterGort Yes a lot of the T engines used N series injectors, but later engines got the newer injectors like the 5A60, 5C60 etc. They also ran advanced timing as well, but I running standard. Maybe I'll try advanced one day and see.:) The Silver series had bypass blowers, new cam profiles, new liner port design, 2 piece piston to name a few. I converted my 4-53T to a Silver series engine and it runs nice. I really can't tell the difference between them to be honest. I guess time will tell.:) Here's my F350 with the Silver 4-53T.:) ruclips.net/video/2L19kY_vYws/видео.html

    Is the 4-53T in the truck standard or advanced timing?
