True. Brands like Kirby, Rainbow and Filter Queen are still sold door to door. My dad bought a Kirby a few years ago

Here in Western Australia we have to deal with solar panel salespeople. Have a big sticker on my front door telling them to fuck off.
Had a Kirby salesman pull this exact same scenario on me and my husband one night.
I said no a thousand times but my husband had had a couple of drinks and was feeling a generous.
I tell the guy no again and he pulls out this sob story about how if he doesn't make this sale he will get fired.
Husband get more drunkenly guilt tripped and tries to talk me into it.
I say no. Salesman says we can buy it, try it out for a week and if we don't like it we can return it for free and he will still get his commission.
Husband gives me puppy dog eyes.
So I compromise. I make my husband promise to return it if we agree to buy it. He promises. We buy the stupid ass vacuum.
Btw my husband doesn't clean, anything ever. Never used a vacuum.
Next few days I ask my husband when he will return it.
He finally snaps at me and says he is too embarrassed to return it because he bought it while drunk.
So that's how I ended up with overpriced, heavy as shit, 2k vacuum that doesn't even work half as good as my cheapo dyson.
Those payments were larger than my car payment. Don't ever let those bastards guilt trick you. Its not worth it.

Kirby! The same thing happened to us about 6 years ago. Dad decided to buy it. We love it! They're great vacuum cleaners, just very noisy and expensive.

I had the exact same experience! Only they offered a free carpet cleaning in on room of your house but he was there so long we just wanted him to leave. It was a sweet vacuum though haha but being poor saved me $1500 well it also go the price all the way down to like $400 but still too rich for a 22 yr old line cook at the time

Same, more or less appeasement tho. Couldn't find a job and my buddy gets me this great offer that is just to good to refuse. So I give it a shot and it's not bad at first. I just didn't like it because I would have been forced to drive 70mi twice a week and they were very forceful and pressuring
+Paul Cruikshank my buddy worked there for a bit and convinced me it was a "good job"; I worked there for a whole week, I didn't sell a damn thing. Job is complete horseshit, but I'll stand by the quality of their knives. Those are some damn good knives.

Years ago when I was a kid some salesman came to my door my mom loves free stuff and said ok to the free carpet cleaning. The whole thing turned into a 4 hour sales speel. Which really sucked because my sister and I had to translate the entire thing since my parents didn't speak English. Can you imagine hard sales tactics being filtered through a 5th or 6th grader. At the end we didn't have the money for it and he took the free paper towel and windex and started cleaning his kirby with it, since he had to wait for his boss to pick him up. I was so young then but thought man his job sucks.
Ran into that guy at grandma's house. Ended up with a $400 Kirby vac. That crap lasted 30 years.
