$800 plus but doesn't come with 2 grommets, makes you shake your head.

Why would they send more grommets if the ones on the machine are still good? Waste of time and money to replace small parts that can be reused.
@@CountryRock2k1 The fact that the component is mounted on grommets indicates Honda thought it needed it for vibration isolation. If it has failed it could be due to many things but for it's price it ought to be as good as factory when replaced that should include all mounting hardware in my opinion which would include the bottom ones and the tie wrap. Like a water pump should always come with the correct gasket, the grommets might have cost $5 to include.

Dead short loading the generator. On railway locomotives they call it dynamic braking.

Hey Taryl, how did you determine the problem was the inverter based off of the code? How did you know there wasn't an issue with the GCU or the wiring in between? Is there any other technique to ensure the problem is the inverter before buying that expensive part? Would the code be different for those types of issues? Thanks

I'm a fan but what is the value of a inverter engine generator vs. a regular generator? In what application does the client need electrical power with such low distortion specs? Most all modern electronics can handle the amount of distortion from most any engine generator you buy without using a expensive inverter unless I am mistaken or missing something and I am ignorant why clients spend so much on inverter engine generators. I love the patience you demonstrate in your technical explanations and how you deal with your clients. I assume your skits screen plays come from the exchanges you have had in years past with dealing with joe and jane public hearing their many concerns and doing all you can to help them resolve their problems with their equipment and systems. Godspeed.
Wanted to use a portable generator for home backup. Was told the electronics on my new gas furnace require under 5 percent distortion.
Inverters are great because the engine can quiet Idle and still stay at 60Hz unlike non-inverter AC power engines stay at 3600 RPM for 60Hz output.
Its easy when you've got the knowledge, and Taryl most definately has.

Hour meter say the generator 1463 hours on it thats pretty good for a inverter to last that long what do you expect they don't even make riding mowers last up to 1500 hours. We had generic that the inverter failed on very low hours probably around 100 hours

Will it still start if you disconnect the whole inverter?
That's Scary!! Is there a diagnostic procedure to eliminate the possibility of another problem in the generator? My fear, and I'm sure yours as well is plugging in a expensive electrical part and having the "Magic Smoke" poor out of it. Especially since most electrical parts are not returnable. You open it, you own it. These are the repairs I hate. Did I miss something?? Am I going to smoke a brand new part?? Best of luck................ Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Have you ever heard of a chick shaft and throttle shaft seize, I just cleaned my sthil 4 mixed carb with gumout carb cleaner and now both shafts are almost impossible to move

This may be a good time to start learning electronic soldering skills and to troubleshoot electronic failures. Most likely, it's one or more of the capacitors that have failed. An ESR Meter can identify a failed capacitor. Also, look for bulging and leaking capacitors. Capacitors can store high voltage. Discharge the capacitors.
The problem here is that all the circuitry is covered with rock hard epoxy for waterproofing. good luck with accessing and changing over bad components. nothing will disolve epoxy.

hey taryl i have a Honda generator similar to this that i can get to start but wont stay on, it has a switch for idle control when your not pulling any power it will fun fine on full throttle but the second i turn the switch on for throttle control its dies out, i have checked the spark and the spark isnt dieing when it shuts down i have a new carb on it as well. any ideas on what it could be?

Hi got one of these gens and when I try to start it sounds like it’s grinding. Also won’t pull super hard to pull barley moves. I tried the test you showed but still same grinding, won’t start. Gonna check for spark next but any other tricks to know before I drop the $800 plus on inverter board? Thx for your help!!

conundrum conundrum If the electronics are epoxied in after the board is populated, you can’t replace individual electronic components. Great idea though. I would like to see one to see what could be done!
I cannot understand how a blown circuit board would make a engine hard to turn over. Not starting I can understand, but my brain can't wrap around how engine becomes hard to pull over just because there is a bad circuit board in it. Also, since this has a "5" on it, there has to be at least 4 others of these. So, I would suspect this might of came from a rental place. Someone somewhere had a Honda Generator like this one and the board blew. They found out what they cost and said screw that. So they rented one from a rental place, swapped the boards around and installed their bad board in the rental generator. {Taryl even said ty-raps were cut on top of board for the wires, so someone was in there before he was} So next time they go to rent out generator number 5 it does not start. They bring to Taryl and have to pay to replace a circuit board that someone else swapped around on them.

Good question, would like to know the answer also.
Honda covers that inverter with all that plastic just to make sure the homeowner cannot repair it themselves. Figure out how to remove that stuff and you could make some money.

Hi Tarydactil , I have same type of generator but mine is Honda em25 (2.3kw, 220v) cycloconverter generator but I got it without electronics (module , inverter and front panel), just engine with flywheel (drum) and coils inside . Is there any ways to bypass all of that and make it run ? Just to make engine running , I don't need current . Or any modifications regarding .Thanks

Good clean quiet power is what the inverters are good for. I got a eu2200i and its handy and quiet for 1 and clean sine wave power for electronics.
@@george2823 I find it odd because I ran my flat screen T.V. and computer on my old gen. So far, I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.
The more sensitive stuff. All the time with high load like home medical things also it ramps up engine speed as the load requires so if your only pulling 1k its only going to use the rpms needed for 1k at 60 hz.. saving fuel and engine wear. But to each their own im a big on the ol saying "your stuff, you do what you want with it" haha!
George I’ve fixed multiple generators and I’ve only had one come in and the generator piece itself was over $900 usd which was back three years ago!

Since these things usually sit outside for part of their lives, I use a copious amount of dielectric grease on the electrical connections to weatherproof them…keeps them from turning green…

My generator has a spark and runs for a minute but shuts down with errors e10 and e20. The generator is hard to start unless i unplug the cable from the master coil winding. Is this the inverter at fault?
I wonder if Harbor Freight makes a similar 6500 watt inverter generator? People call Harbor Freight engines, Honda clones, I,have heard them called Chondas before too.(Chinese Honda’s). My thoughts were to get the inverter from Harbor Freight if it’s cheaper. I have ordered parts from Harbor Freight before and got them, took a while but I got them. Must have been on one of those slow boats from China.
