Shovel Knight is an NES game in spirit, but it plays the way you remember NES games from your childhood, rather than the way they actually were.
Its like a an snes game on steroids in terms of graphics with the music of an nes and an artstyle of an nes too.

Oh hey, it's me at 5:45. I'm flattered that my footage was included, but I don't think anyone reached out to ask permission to use it? 'Cause I totally would've said yes, but I would've pushed for the MM2 Boobeam Trap boss or the MM4 Wily Machine boss for a more dramatic flickering effect.

@Mochi's Game Hut Oh you sweet summer child, you don't know. They broke up like year or so ago. The details are intentionally scarce, but as Woolie mentioned in the video announcing the break up "Matt and Pat aren't friends anymore" which is basically the equivalent of finding out Santa Claus doesn't exist or that your parents are getting a divorce.
Feels bad man. At least they all still have their solo stuff, I personally only follow Matt though.
I only really follow Castle Super Beast myself. I guess I just can't get used to their solo work, so seeing at least two of them still have a fun dynamic on their old bullshit works out.

My favorite Shovel Knight fact is that the boss Baz is actually a cameo character who's famous among indie developers as the man with no game, he was a street fighter cut character or something like that, and every game he was put in had some tragic story about failing miserably or something like that, I recommend to look into it, it's really cool, and it makes me appreciate an otherwise pointless character

Shovel Knight is one of those few magical indie games like Hollow Knight and Celeste where they’re not only inspired by past games, but even surpass them in several aspects as well.

Did you know? I love Shovel Knight and it really made me appreciate indie games, the wii u and ps vita since both had so many amazing indie games
Today on Twitter I saw a thread that was like "Name a better video game IP than this that's come out since 2010!" (they showed The Last of Us) and honestly, my first thought was Shovel Knight. It's been an incredible journey with this franchise since it came out, and I can't wait to see what the future for it will be.
Their dedication paid off in SPADES.

I appreciate the dedication to make the game different with the Japanese version. But I also dislike bring reminded of the worst aspect of video games and the feeling that I'm playing am inferior version.

Mighty No. 9 just sucks, while Yooka Laylee started out pretty bad but got better with time, though not as good as Shovel Knight, which is clearly the best of the three

The crazy part is, for such a humble start, they really knocked it out of the park.
All together with the other 3 expansions campaigns I would have to rate not only in my top 3 of this and last gen, but all-time period!

I actually don't know how to feel after learning that the Japanese version is literally better in every way. There is no reason to play the other versions in comparison. Is there any way to play it on an NTSC platform?

As a kid I made a very earthboundy like comic back in middle school and my cast who arrived in a mining kingdom were gonna get their last party member who was last ‘shovel knight”. It’s just boggles me that ideas can be universal in different ways.
Did you know (tm)? Shovel Knight was put into Inti Create's Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 as an amiibo-unlocked boss battle. The reason for this inclusion is that Yacht Club actually published the physical release of the Azure Striker Gunvolt Striker Pack compilation for the western market, so Inti decided to add in some cross-promotion out of gratitude.
I am (jokingly) offended this wasn't narrated by Arin Hanson. But Boundary Break is a neat show, and I'm glad Shesez is getting more recognition. :)

Regarding the checkpoint system: "flipping it on its head" is a common tactic for Game Devs! WoW used to have a system where you would get EXP penalties for playing too long, but players hated it. Instead, this became daily EXP bonuses. Negative vs. Positive reinforcement
Can we have part 2 after King of cards comes out, describing the development of Specter of Torment, King of Cards, and Showdown? Also be sure to mention the fact that Shovel Knight appears more in other games than he does in his own series.

We always have Rivals of Aether and the upcoming showdown minigame for that.
But it's still really insane to see indie titles like Shantae, Shovel Knight and Undertale have some form of representation in Smash Bros. as it's list of included games and franchises is still growing to this day.

Did you know? Shovel Knight uses a shovel to fight, which is why he’s called Shovel Knight. An interesting coincidence is how Plague Knight uses the Plague, King Knight uses Kings, and Specter Knight uses nothing (because ghosts don’t exist)

Also on the topic of NES limitations, why aren't the console versions pixel perfect? They obviously have the techniques to do it since it's on the 3DS, but why can't the consoles have it?
Shovel knight would be impossible to run as it is to an nes system i believe,maybe if they remove many background imagery and paralax scrolling.It is made to resembles an 8bit system with 16 bit attributes.In snes i believe could work really good,but again not knowing if some huge sprite enemies could be presented in that manner! It is one of the best neo retro indie games accompanied with shantae series!
