the fact that they are mixed up though kind of makes me giggle, like it was a joke from the getgo.

right? i was not a fan of the Tiki people or the polar north squad.
The Tiki Tribe was boring but the Snowmads were cool. Still, nothing beats the Kremling Krew.
Smash Bros has pretty much proven that people still care about “long forgotten” characters like K Rool and Banjo, and shows how much these characters *deserve* to return in the spotlight in their main games...
I dunno if you meant it like that, but I would play the FUCK out of a game that featured K. Rool as the main character.

There's a difference between long forgotten and moderately remembered.
Either way, both characters from Rare are a crapshoot with rareware being a shell of itself currently.
Just because the requests demonstrate care for the characters. New games does not justify that care. Making games ain't cheap
Most importantly I’d like to welcome Banjo&Kazooie back home to Nintendo where they belong and I want Nintendo and Rare to be in a Relationship again.
Seeing that K. Rool Smash trailer live will go down as one of my favorite moments as a gamer.
I'd wanted him in Smash since Brawl, he was my most wanted character and ballot vote for Smash 4, and to see him finally make a comeback, despite all the odds being against him, was one of the best feelings. I hope in the next Donkey Kong Country game, we can get a comeback for the King as well. The future has never looked brighter for K. Rool fans.

I can only assume they accepted the offer for Prime 4 because they felt they were far enough in development with their previous project. Question is, what is it? I mean, the Mario Land games worked out okay.
Super Mario Bros. 2 didn't have Bowser either. I see why they chose to go with new enemies at first and gradually bring back the Kongs (DK/Diddy/Cranky in Returns, adding Dixie/Funky in Tropical Freeze) but I would be surprised if by the next installment we don't see even more, specifically the return of the Kremlings. (It would be amazing to see characters like Lanky Kong and Chunky Kong come back too)
The goddamn gameman Mario land games were more creative than the mario bros games. Nintendo hated that and kill the series off.
I think they had a good point though. If they wanted to try something new they shouldn't have forced K. Rool into the story.
Bowser is always the villain because they don't want to change the basic premise in the Mario games, that's not the case for DKC.
K. Rool is my favorite Nintendo villain, I hope they bring him back in the next DKC game!

How can you not love K. Rool in the cartoon? His portrayal is the best part of that cartoon entirely because he's so hammy and over the top.
Romanic ...It was a rhetorical question with my explanation of why I (and many others) like the character in the cartoon added into it.
I love how in when you finally defeat K.Rool in DKC 1, he comes back for round 2 after the credits.
The hype never wears off of his reveal trailer (or Banjo-Kazooie's).
I always loved K Rool's design and so glad I can now main him in Ultimate.

9:29 There was "sort of" a point in a game where K.Rool's name is said verbally. It was in the Kiosk demo for Donkey Kong 64 during the fight with Army Dillo, which uses more dialogue than the final game. At one point he says "You'll never defeat K.Rool!"
It's really heartwarming to hear that K. Rool had so many fans and they all shared their love for the character by sending a letter to Nintendo. It's also heartwarming to know that someone at Nintendo took the time to respond to the fans and thank them for their support of the character. Nintendo is truly a company which, despite all its blunders, really puts the fans first. In our modern gaming landscape that's really respectable.
Now if only we could get Waluigi in Smash.
Here's a piece of trivia for you. The word "krool" (without the dot) sounds exactly like the Polish "król" which means... King :)

K. Rool Mains rise up! I’ve wanted him in Smash ever since Brawl and thought he would be in since his song Gangplank Galleon/Ship Deck got remixed but then Ultimate came with an even better remix. I Hope K. Rool can also be in Mario Spin-offs and get some love outside of Smash. In Dr. Mario World we could’ve got Baron K. Roolenstein. Fun Fact: K. Rool is playable in DK King of Swing, Barrel Blast and Mario Super Sluggers way before Ultimate.

K.Rool and his Kremlings have always been my favourite part of the DK games. Always had a soft spot for crocodiles. Never even been interested in the newer games they aren't in. xD
*Didn't You Know?* King K. Rool is most famous for his appearance in Smash Ultimate, where he quickly became the favorite character for little children to spam with on Elite Smash. This playstyle has made many people upset, though he won't be banned from tournaments until 2023 when Australia deems him "too powerful."

Sometimes learning about VFX and Animation takes some of the magic away
Personally I always thought King K. Rool in the animated series was perfect. While just as, if not moreso, bumbling as his underlings, he does pull off some decent gambits and does establish himself as a persistent and dangerous enough threat whilst acting like every bit of the would-be tyrant that has no business being a king of anything that he ought to be. Bowser and Ganon pretty much always had the "terrible evil king" thing on lockdown, and I always found more comedic "This is what passes for royalty?" villains like King Dedede in the Kirby anime to be tons of fun.
I love king k rool and i am still in shock he made it to smash. 1/2 of my life was wishing i could control the big doofus and now i hope he comes back to the DKC franchise

Maybe other enemies like Gnawty can return and possibly new kremlings or other animals can be added.

I always figured the “K.” in “King K. Rool” didn’t mean anything, at least to Rare at the time. However, similar to how Bowser was given the common name “King Koopa” in the Super Show TV Series and the Mario Cartoons to follow, I always considered the K. to be simply “Kremling.”
So.. “King Kremling Rool(s).”

The answer is doesn’t make a difference. There’s that Nintendo self-centered ego again. I still think Nintendo Japan are still a tad peeved that an “foreigner” developer managed to a create a better-received interpretation of a character they originally created. Donkey Kong is nothing without Rareware’s influence. I also believe that is why Nintendo has tried their best to sweep DK under the rug for so many years.
Correction they tried to sweep “Rareware’s” DK under the rug, they have no problem with DK so long as it’s the one they created on their own terms with their development teams, then again there are some developers over there that stand with us, like Camelot, and especially Sakurai and the Smash team, though with what you said I guess I’m starting to understand why Diddy and Funky haven’t come back to a Mario Kart game on a mainline console and why the one they returned to the series in, and the one Dixie made her debut in the Mario Kart series, was a damn gatcha game on mobile!

I always thought that K. Rool originally desired the resources of the DK Island.
The 1st game had even factories by them.
It seems that Kremlings have a connection to DK Island. They have industries and mines there, and the temples used to have crocodile statues like those inside the lost world.
Everytime I watch the DYKG for a character or franchise represented in Smash, it makes me realize how crazy it is that we have the roster we do in Ultimate. There's so much history behind the characters in their game

Thanks for mentioning Donkey Kong Country cartoon! I watched the first episode and that theme song got stucked into my head.
I had a theory that K. Rool was an underling of some greater Kremling power. If you look at the main 3 games, he goes from King to Captain to just a Scientist. Almost like he's being demoted, and eventually let go. Heck, it seemed like the Kremlings were an invading force from a different dimension in DKC2. How hard would it be to believe that K.Rool wasn't the true leader?

AguChamp Exactly. 🙄 Even if he wasn’t the main antagonist, it shouldn’t stop him from appearing with alternative role of sorts. At the end of the day you keep the antagonist that started it all, and set the mark in a franchise. It was clear his absence was all creative choices.

Damn right! K.Rool is such a fantastic character/villain. He's goofy and over the top yet still has his moments of being vile and cruel. He has no redeeming qualities but is still somehow lovable all the same. How Rare/Nintendo were able to meet that balance is nothing short of incredible. Which is why K.Rool is remembered so fondly and why he has a legion of fans. I liked K.Rool when I first saw him in DKC back in the 90's but didnt LOVE him until DK64 where his character really gets to shine.
I think my favorite K. Rool related trivia is from the game show minigame in Country 2, where, when asked the name of the main villain, one of the options is "K. Rappy".

King K. Rool was the very first final boss i beat, from the very first game i played, owned, and finished. you can imagine how happy i was when i saw the DK segment after the Hero vs Villain slideshow.
