  • From Scream Bloody Gore, to The Sound of Perseverance, the emerging of the Florida Death Metal scene, and tragedy, the history of Chuck Schuldiner's band Death, and the impact they left on too many genres and bands/artists to count, is one that deserves to be properly talked about.
With a flawless discography, an everchanging line-up consisting of powerful figures in the heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal and progressive death metal scenes, and a nonstop innovating style, Death left an imprint of death metal, technical death metal, melodic death metal and so much more that will never be replicated to the same degree.
A household name now, with the recognition in the heavy metal world unlike many--if any--other death metal bands, Death's tragic ending, and the road to that point is not only fascinating to examine, but wonderful to pay homage to.
Rest in power, Chuck. Wherever you are, just know we'll never forget what you gave us while you were here.

Death is one of the greatest and most legendary bands in metal with a flawless discography. Chuck Schuldiner was a genius songwriter and fantastic guitarist. He will be sorely missed.

Chuck helped inspire Death Metal; Technical Death Metal; Progressive Death Metal; Death Thrash; Brutal Death Metal; etc. Almost all of it comes from something Chuck and his many lineups played

Huge talent gone too soon. I began listening to Death during my teenage years, around 2011, which made me fall in love with metal in general. Certainly helped me through rough times, and still doing so. Of course, was devastated once I learned that he passed away already. Not just because it would've been a dream come true to see him live, but also because he seemed like such a gentle, loving soul. I love his other project, Control Denied, which has mixed opinions. The demos for his next album sounded amazing too... such a shame.
My personal favorite albums are Symbolic and the Sound of Perseverance. "The Moment of Clarity" has a special place in my heart. I hope one day I'll manage to visit his grave at least. Was great listening to you talking about Death. Greetings from Berlin, Germany :)

Chuck and Death pretty much were the pioneers for almost every subgenre of Death Metal, from MeloDeath to Technical Death to Prog Death. All because of whatever Chuck was into at the time.

Chuck was and still is the key to my musical preference and obsession of death metal. I found Death in the mid 90s and from there I found myself in a beautiful rabbit hole of some of the most darkest, nastiest, beautiful, and brutal music ever produced. Most humble thanks to Chuck Schuldiner for his genius and his existence.

I think my favourite death album would be spiritual healing because it bridges the gap between the sound of their early stuff and their later prog stuff

Great job explaining the genius that is Death and Chuck. It very hard to fully articulate what Death created, how they did it, and the impact it had being such a multi-faceted band even from one album to the next, while still being the epitome of iconic. I like how you touched on how Death transitioned between albums based on the different band members and how it impacted the nuances
of the band and their sound on each record.

Great video and tribute paid to Death and Chuck! One of the key difference between Desth and other bands was definatelly the vsriety of styles Chuck explored. I personally switched into jazz years ago but still like to listen to their records and never get bored of it.

One thing I'd like to point out here is the evolution of the band logos across time. You can see them mature as all the clutter (blood drops, spider web, and eventually the reaper) gets removed piece by piece. By TSOP, Death had achieved their final form, and it shows. Its sound is so different from anything else, but it absolutely positively slays.
This growing maturity is also reflected in the lyrics, which went from "Decapitated head licking your cunt" (Sorry, but this is Painkiller level of lyrics) to "Passion is a poison laced with pleasure bitter sweet" in just a little more than a decade. I always wondered why I learned about verse meters in school. Where the hell would I ever use these irl? Well, right here. To appreciate the lyrical beauty of a death metal song.
    PS: I don't mean to shit-talk Painkiller, I think it's a 10/10 album/song, but the lyrics are... interesting.
Oh, and one more thing: IIRC, Schuldiner died of a Glioblastome. Even in our modern day, survival chances are grim. On average, people often even don't make it past two years after diagnosis. A quarter century back, no money in the world could've helped Chuck, imho. I wonder how many great songs and albums we lost.

Death, possessed, morbid angel, Entombed, Dismember, demilich, are the only death metal I like other than that I really don't like death metal especially once cannibal corpse got popular because now their are so many copycat cannibal corpse clones in the genre now that's all it's become its unfortunate

its funmy seeing these youngsters do a biography on a band/genre that they were not even born on nor near....😂😂😂 i was 17 in the 80s and this kind of music was never popular nor even talked about.... its weird how this music has lasted the test of time
