my dad, Allen Stewart Coates, is the singer in this performance! to say I'm proud is an understatement.
I have played Pish Tush myself. Your father's performance is excellent. He looks like he was having a grand time!
Is he the one who voice acted as Rataxes, Constable Growler, and Cedric Pig?
It's a pivotal song because it explains the central plot point, so the audience needs to hear what Pish Tush says or they'll not understand what follows. This is a great performance that achieves that with clarity, comic elegance and pace. Bravo to your Dad.
Beast version of this song so far, the performance really portrays the meaning of the song.
Love how this version perfectly balances true opera, with understandability, so people like me who havent quite developed an ear for understanding opera can still enjoy it.
Awesome all around! This is the first Pish-Tush I've seen onRUclips who actually acts the song. Thanks for uploading!
This is just so amazing !
@cbiswhite I agree. It was also the most melodious exposition piece I've ever heard. We learn KoKo's background before he enters the stage because of this. Joy and rapture!
Pish-Tush is such an underrated character.
And you'll agree, as I assume,
This performance is great
as great can be. ;)
It's pretty great!!
Great interpretation!
@iupetre i know right! im pish for the mikado my school is putting on. im nervous about it and am just watching this video over and over hoping his AMAZING singing will rub off haha.
This performance is The Mikado to me. Brilliant top to bottom...
Granted I haven't seen it since the 1990s.... and whats this fungus (fondness) doing here.
Well, unless they're married hence the "connubially linked" mention.
I remember watching this on A&E many years ago. I have been looking for this version of the Mikado for years. I am so glad to finally be able to see it again... at least pieces of it. I haven't been able to find it to buy or download anywhere... could you point me in the right direction?

This is the most fast-paced version of this song.
Yay I’m the 💯 like !!! 🙌🏼😂
Please say there IS a DVD of this wonderful performance??
lol at the guy on the right at 1:57 or just press 7!!!!!
Great performance from your Dad.Sometimes Pish Tush is a bit of a one dimensional character,it certainly isn't with your Dad.
I like the singing very much and a lot of the choreography but have one small gripe: any version of a Mikado song (besides The Prisoner Cried...) that includes a lot of head-chopping gestures tends to get on my nerves. We get it: decapitation figures big in this play. Do you have to try and make it that much more obvious?
