Thank you for sharing and you've saved me from the hassle of putting a video up on RUclips and hopefully I've helped you get one subscriber closer to the magical 1000 subscribers. OMGOSH thank you for this! My daughter has a swimming pool in her trunk and back seat floorboards. Geez Louise. This car has been in the family (my 2 sisters owned/passed it down since it was brand new, 2008) and I was hoping that it would last a while for my daughter. Thank goodness for carpet shampoo machines, because mine has been getting a workout. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE DETAILED VIDEO! I can’t wait to work on getting the car permanently dry today!

      Same. I have a 2007 Fit and soaking wet rear driver's and passenger's side floor AND a spare tire well half full of water is the only thing I don't like about it. I feel better now just knowing I'm not the only one who has this issue. lol

    We didn't notice the water. But we noticed when we opened our car after one week of not using it and it sitting in the hot, humid environment. The entire backseat was riddled with mold! We had a professional come out and do a deep clean that solved the mold problem--actually made it cleaner than when we first got it! But then we had to figure out why there was so much water in the trunk and backseat floorboards. Then we found your video! This is exactly what our Fit is doing. We had had extreme amounts of rain that week--that's why we didn't drive the car. So thankful to find your video and apply the solution.

    Thank you. A very clear description and solution to this problem. I have a Honda Fit (it's called the Jazz here in the UK) and it leaks into the trunk. Someone has used some RTV to seal it but they've done a bad job. The dealer who sold me the car said someone washing the car had 'accidentally spelled some water in the trunk' but they would dry it out. I didn't know this was a problem until the first big rain storm arrived and I could hear the sloshing. I contacted the dealer but they didn't want to know. Anyway, I am preparing the car for sale and this is an issue to fix. Thank you for your video.

    Cheers for this. Had a downpour the other night and noticed the smell of death in my car, thought it was the frozen meat I'd left in the back the night before but no, must be a gallon of water in the tire well. Watched your video and saw the two big cracks all the way down the caulking on both sides. Filled it full of Shoe goo, finger crossed no more involuntary swimming pool. Thank you!

    If you go to any outlet that sells car body panels they should stock an item called .. "Seam Sealer" it was actually developed for marine use but was also taken on by the body repair world, you can get it in tin form so you can brush it on or in a similar type tube that would normaly be used for bathroom type sealant .... its the best stuff to use...... And for those who have the leak problem.. dont worry about it... its water.. its coming in somewhere which means it can be found and fixed. :)

    The most helpful guide on RUclips. I scraped all the old sealant out, which was dry and brittle. I then used Sikaflex sealant adhesive to fix it. While the water ingress is greatly reduced, I do need to do a bit more.

    My son's 08 Fit had water on rear passenger floor and when I found this video I looked in the spare tire well and found 1.5" of water. Also found the same cracks and after cleaning, I repaired them with Aquaseal which is a clear urethane sealant that sticks well and self levels before it hardens to a tough flexible surface. I have used it to repair wetsuits with a lot of success. Hopefully this will solve the problem. thanks for posting the video.

      Larry Packwood very glad I could help! I had found a few videos on here about Fit water leaks, but never one that really pinpointed the problem so I figured I should contribute and make a video regarding the issue. Also, I advise you to call Honda USA and report the problem to them. Maybe us Fit owners will get a recall fixing the problem or a reimbursement if we had to pay to have it fixed.

    2006 Honda Jazz GD in South Australia, 39,000Kms. Car has been housed mostly outside, very hot dry summers and very wet winters. Noticed a few months ago car was smelling, passenger carpet behind driver soaking wet. Found the boot full of water, bailed out over 12 litres. Checked roof rails, good condition, no rust but filled up with pollen and grime from trees. Cleaned roof rails. Took it to Mechanics shop who work on a lot of Honda Jazzes. They had it for 2 days. They spent a lot of time investigating, they removed some roof lining, they sealed the seams on the top at the back, as this video. However they had to admit car was still leaking. I saw rain coming the other day, so I sat in the car for a few minutes. Ive had the boot lid strapped up to the back headrests for weeks with the back seats up. After a few minutes, I was able to see that a leak was coming from rear passenger door, running down the black plastic sill and then seeping into the carpet. If you put your finger in where the back seats lock in, its very wet. I noticed the other rear passenger floor was slightly wet where the seat locks in, although I could not see a run line on the door sill. I believe this means the door interior has to be removed, and it could be a bit of plastic type paper that has failed, easy fix with a bit of heavy duty adhesive tape. After the rain, I opened the hatch, I could see a small run of water on the plastic at the back of the rear lights, running to the boot. I popped off the triangular cover and there was damp in that area. I noticed there was a rust line on the boot floor from the rear light area running towards the passenger rear seat, especially around the nut where there is a ring pull to remove the fittings around the boot. I had suspected that water was coming in the rear lights and suggested this to the mechanics shop. I spoke to Honda Head Office in Melbourne twice, they said have the car examined by a dealership. That dealership said it was best to go to a Crash Repair Shop as they are the ones to find leaks. Talking to an ex Honda mechanic, not in the business anymore, he told me to re-seal the rear lights, a known problem. He seemed to think it was only 2006 models, I told him Jazzes leaked like sieves. I under the rear lights gasket in time flattens. I believe this to be the problem. Unfortunately, for 2006 model the bumper has to come off to get the rear lights off which is a bit beyond me. Another Honda mechanic told me to keep the Jazz gasket and silicone either side of it, so the gasket is the sandwich. It was a wet day today and windy so not ideal to be working on fixing leaks. At the moment, car rear lights are masked up with ordinary masking tape until I decide next option. My season is a very wet and coldish Spring at the moment. When I first had the problem, I dried the carpet by heating a largish wheat bag very hot in the microwave, I laid this on several sheets of newspaper in the rear passenger footwell. The weight of the wheat bag pressed on the newspaper which soaked up the water. I also put a couple of other heavy items on the newspaper. Changed the thick wad of newspaper several times. Eventually, it dried without smell. I heated the wheat bag every hour or so, to me this was better than mucking around with a hairdryer. On days it was fine, I would leave windows open and hatchback open. Will update on re-sealing the lights and removing the interior of rear passenger door.

      I'd be inclined to talk to panel shop repairers, especially after watching this and other videos to see if there's an honest one around. You might want some paint or just to see if there's any honest people left in the car world.

    Great information! Thank you very much for posting this. Recommend 3M 41594 Polyurethane Sealant 540 for this repair (even though you'll end up using only a small portion of the cartridge content).

    You can use dry ice to freeze the sound-deadening and then smack it with a hammer to remove it. That mold doesn't look like it will be coming out.

      This is a little late, but the doors have a drainage problem as well. I have the same problem and I had to open up the door panel and seal some holes. check here: www.mye28.com/tech/rods_pages/id25.html#9-21-12

    Thank you for sharing. I got one side of rear seat floor wet in the winter and I couldn't find water trails so far. I have also tried to apply some silicon glue to the join parts but not yet sorted out the issue. Very strange.

    The smell is simply mildew. It will happen anywhere left wet just from mold spores in air.

      @@BeanieandCecil I've noticed rust in the bodywork just above the brake lights - there's a fair gap above the brake light housing where water could get in. I've also seen water inside there looking through the brake light access hatch on the interior. Will see if sealing those helps...

    • @BeanieandCecil
      @BeanieandCecil 3 года назад

      @@thromboid Thanks for the tip. I was wondering if water might be getting in there, as well. Right now, it's snowing out so I won't be checking for leaks today.

    • @thromboid
      @thromboid 3 года назад

      @@BeanieandCecil Update: I took the brake lights out (had to remove the bumper first!) and found more cracks in the bodywork, where the panels come together above the brake light. There was also an unsealed hole on the left side where the right side had a plastic plug. Lastly, the nylon inserts that the brake light prongs fit into don't look like they'll seal reliably. So, sealant around all those and I'll see how it goes...Good luck with yours!

    Very informative and thank you. my 88 year old dad bought a 2007 Fit 6 months ago and we have become the owners of this clusterfu*^&. Incredible... making a car that has designed leaks. It such a damn basic minimum requirement it’s like making a bucket that has a hole designed in it and acting like it does not destroy the entire utility of the item. How could this have not attracted the plaintiffs bar predators for a class action. It’s a no brainer. These vehicles should have had a warning that they can only be operated in desert environments. The problem is unacceptable, Honda should not even be allowed to fix it after the fact but should have been required to fully refund purchase price. How have they gotten away with this not being a public relations disaster.

      Yeah, along with the CVT transmission shudder. Totally crappy car. I bought mine back in 2014 as a 6 year old car, has leaked since then, and 6 weeks after purchase the transmission started shuddering. The woman I'd bought from had gotten the transmission fluid replaced, which temporarily made the issue disappear while selling the car (conveniently). $10,500 wasted money. 3 years later, the dealer wouldn't even give me $2000 for it. Because of their reputation! We kept it for our daughter to run around in. Thanks for this video, it may prevent it becoming a total 'Fred Flintstone' car!! 🤣 Found 1/2 a foot of water in the rear footwell the other day after some heavy rain. Look forward to getting the silicone on it.
