- I tried my best with the limited amount of footage I had. I originally didn't plan to make a video of this. It was only afterwards that I decided to make a video of it so I can help those who have this problem.
Honda Fit is also called Honda Jazz.

Well done you!! My daughter owns a Honda Jazz (We only have it as a Jazz in New Zealand). I'm about to undertake what you have just done. Thankfully my late father was a Automotive Paint & Panel repairer (Called Panel Beater back in the day). So I have his tools & the knowledge that he imparted upon me over his lifetime. Even so I'm not looking forward to having to fix something that to my mind is shoddy design & workmanship on Hondas part (I called Honda New Zealand for help in replacing the factory installed adhesive on a like for like basis, but they simply weren't interested in giving any help). I hope that your water ingress issues are now permanently solved. Best wishes from New Zealand

Very comprehensive. My own Jazz is from 2005, and it's leaking water around the right rear door and right A-pillar around the top corner of the windshield. Seems like the cracking factory seam sealer and imperfect door drain design is a common issue. Thanks for this.

I hope you can get yours fixed! Yeah, the factory seam sealer is awful on these cars and I heard about the door drain issue but mine didn't have that problem. It's a shame with these leaks because the car runs great. I guess that's what we get for buying a budget car! I told my wife I'll be happy if we can get another year out of this car after the repair. So far so good and it's been 8 months. Maybe it'll last for a lot longer.

I just scrapped our 2002 Honda Fit (Jazz in UK) for a perennial water ingress problem. My efforts were initially successful but over the years it began again and despite my puny efforts got so bad even the drivers footwell flooded and the car began to smell badly of mould.
Have now replaced the car with another used Honda 2015 model Jazz, which appears fine (touch wood) for now. 🤞
I took a different approach, I drilled four half inch drain holes in the bottom spare tire well. Problem solved. Later I found the cracks along the roof seams and used black RTV silicone, don’t know if I fixed it good or not, after water got in there the first time, it never held water again. Love my little Fit!
Do you know what that cap type plug is in the tire wheel well? Mine has rust on it. And it rained yesterday. I drove through a few puddles. I got home and I felt that cap. It was very damp. I think water is coming in that way. Think Honda could replace it and seal it up?
Honda fit is badly assembled I had same problem and paid good bit to machnic to fix it but still water is making it's ways to get in . Now I know how to fix this trouble after watching your video.

@@FixitFox the man said drain is blocked and thermostat gone that's why you get water in so he fixed all these got 250 but later 🌧 happened car was soaked again. And charged 100 more to seal around and still not finished
@@burjb3779 Tell him to watch this video 😆just kidding. But yeah these cars are a pain with the cracked seam sealers... If you have the same problem as me, it's not gonna be an easy fix... But good news is that my fix is still holding up after 1+ year and a lot of heavy rain throughout the year.
Great video / our 2003 Jazz (uk version of your car) just had this problem and we’ve had the car from new! Couldn’t work out why the a:c wasn’t clearing the windows. Then I noticed something glistening on the rear left passenger floor well - put my hand down as it was in an inch of water / and the right hand side too. Sucked all that out with a carpet vac then looked in the spare wheel well and it was flooded! Water must have sloshed forward into the passenger footwells from here. Now I’ve got to work out where the waters coming in from and stop it recurring / and I’m no good with cars!

I agree it’s a great car but if it’s an inherent defect with the manufacturing then however old I do think Honda should repair it…

I have Honda City ivtec which is leaking water in trunk during rains...trying to fix it but not able to get it done completely... after seeing your work i feel now ihave better idea of seam sealer problem... hope I'll fix it like you... thanks again

My 08 Fit seems to have only had trunk leaks coming from the super common tail end of the roof rails, and then from the seams along the sides of the hatch. (Those near horizontal seams above the tail lights). As well as from the plastic plug under the tail light.
I also had a leak from the rear passenger door. It wasn't the vapor/water barrier though. It was the door seal. When looking at an open rear-passenger door, the top left corner of the door seal is where I found water was coming in. Peeling it back, I added some of Permatex's "The Right Stuff", and that seems to have fixed that leak.
Looking at the seal, there is some kind of foam that goes around that corner. My guess is that after enough years, it deteriorates, and doesn't work to block water anymore. So filling that corner with gasket maker will probably last forever. Or at least long enough to forget how to fix it next time xD
When I feel like it, I'll order a tube off Amazon, being just under 10 bucks right now, and preemptively do the rear driver-side seal. And I'll check if the front door seals have a similar problem.
(Used up the tube I had from other projects, but mainly for this car)
I'll also probably drill a few holes in the spare tire well, just in case water is still getting in. When I bought the car, I didn't check, and the scissor jack was fully rusted out. Like I could peel layers of rust off of the foot of it. Spare tire wheel is fine, luckily. So I just transferred the jack from my old car, and it fit perfectly fine. (I used a wire wheel on the surface rust from the old jack sitting in that spot, then sprayed some primer to protect it in the future)

I have a 2008 fit and a parts car I bought in 2018. Both have the same problem. I was baffled how water was filling the spare tire well. The rear foot well's have been getting soaked for years, but had attributed that the the crappy window design. Its easy to forget putting up the windows all the way and during the rains it just comes off the roof and drips inside, good way to get your front seats wet too. Most car used to have gutters, The fit has nothing to stop copious quantities of water leaking in through a cracked open widow or door. It's a serious design flaw that should be the subject of a recall. To deal with it I poor in a bit of pool algicide into each soaked area, then press down on the carpet several times to work the solution into the sub layers of the carpet, then leave it for a day to wick into all wet areas, then wet vac the water out, with a bit of patients its possible to suck most of the water out wet vacing several times with the opening of the nozzle pressed into the carpet at a bit of an angle to bleed some air in to carry the water up the hose. Then when im not driving the car, I place a space heater and an oscillating fan inside to dry up the rest of the water. From what ive learned here, now the car will need to be kept under cover during the rainy season to keep it dry. Frustrating for such a car that seems to be well designed. How could the Japanese F this up!
This might shock some of you but the leak might be something you most least expect it! The rubber trim that surrounds the trunk is NOT stopping water coming in, it's doing the opposite letting water in!
Don't give up sir give it a try remove the rubber trim and test for leaks, I'm 99% sure it's the culprit.

As someone that paints aircraft…..you do not want bare metal under the epoxy. You want to do a corrosion conversion coat, and primer……also topcoat if you want. Those areas you exopyed are going to rust!!!

I had a same problem with mine jazz 2002. All the trunk where the spare tire is was full of water and all the carpet in the coupe was flooded. For me the problem was solved only with silicon on the roof liners and next to gas shock absorber on the back door.

Thank you! Oh that's a good point you made. I failed to mention that. I'm pretty sure the water was on my back seat floors for 2 reasons:
1. The broken gasket I mention at 2:38
2. The spare tire well in the trunk was so full of water that when we drove, it sloshed back and forth and a lot of it spilled out into the back seat floors, especially as we were braking with the car.
A see now this is a design flaw. I was planning to buy one but since I park my car on the street, I won't buy it. Thank's god I made a research before buying one. My god, that's a nightmare. I had a VW Golf mk4 in the Spanish version which is Seat Leon. I parked on the street for 5 years and never got a drop of water inside. I sold it and now I feel I made a huge mistake.

That sucks you spent so much time on this. If you had spent more time up front searching, the final thing you tried is well documented as the cause of water leaking in the trunk. It is trivial repair compared to what you did back there.
I think I did spend a lot of time researching. And at the time, all I could find was people recommending putting that gray seam sealer stuff on the cracks. Which (like I mentioned in the video) didn't work.
That's why I documented my repair. So others wouldn't have to go through the hours and hours of testing and searching for leaks. Btw, it's been 2 years since the fix and still no leaks! 🎉 🥳

I bet the car was read ended and "repaired" before you bought it. Only that would explain all those rear focused cracks.

It's been almost a year since I fixed it and still no leak! And yeah, nobody wants to fix water leaks...

@@sssaammi I'm not sure what you mean when you say "right side of car boot" but I assume maybe you're talking about the trunk? If you want to make sure you find every spot that water comes in from, and do a thorough job fixing the leak, then I would recommend doing what I explain from 6:15-6:48. It is time consuming but it will guarantee you find all the spots where the leak comes from. Of course to see the water coming in, you will have to remove trims like I did. Sorry for the late response. I had a busy day!
What the name of paint u use? Is it a, rubberrize paint?

Worst car ever if you count also the gearbox bearings failure, the rear and front wheel bearings failure, the flaking off paint at the base of the front right and left rear mirrors, the engine main seal leak, the alternator failure that gives off flickering lights and overcharging battery.
