    Todd, Thank you so much for this video!
    We had some torrential rains here this past week and my wife noticed some water in one of the rear seat footwells of her 2016 Fit. Your EXCELLENT video let me know exactly what to expect and made repairing the issue a breeze.
    Sure enough there was about a 1 inch gap where the tacky tar-stuff was not sticking to the vapor barrier. I couldn't just re-stick it so I added a bead of silicone sealant and stuck the vapor barrier to that. I will keep an eye on it.
    A bucket of damp-rid is now sitting in the other footwell to help remove any remaining moisture in the car. We caught this issue before the car developed any kind of musty odor and I credit your video with helping me not procrastinate about digging into this repair!

      @Cesar Gonzalez Yep! That one was a little easier to pinpoint and fix since panels don't have to be taken off to address. I had to apply the silicon twice though, i didn't do a great job / might have used the wrong product the first try. Here is the video I watched for that fix: ruclips.net/video/t8Onmedfmv0/видео.html

    So grateful for this video! Thank you! We have a 2016 Fit with this issue on both rear doors. Our 2015 Fit had it on the driver's side but not as bad. Then it was totaled in an accident before it became a major concern.

    The vapor barrier is not a splash guard!! If there is water on your vapor barrier it's because the external door seal is leaking.

    • @RedMango55

      My thoughts exactly. My 2008 Honda Fit had a hatch leak, I noticed the rubber seal on the outside was turned inwards just a little bit but enough for water to pool in the spare tire well. I applied silicone sealant on the outside and problem solved.

    I have a 2013 Honda Fit that was leaking just like this. I used RTV silicone & Gorilla Glue Waterproof tape. It fixed the leak.

    • @ieandro
      @ieandro 5 лет назад

      How and where did you apply the silicone and tape?

    • @harrykrishna2697
      @harrykrishna2697 5 лет назад +1

      @@ieandro On my car the plastic sheeting inside the door panels had become unstuck. I stuck it back with RTV silicone & once it dried, applied Gorilla Glue Waterproof tape. My car has not leaked water since.

    • @harrykrishna2697
      @harrykrishna2697 5 лет назад +1

      @@ieandro Actually I would skip the RTV silicone & just use the Gorilla Glue Waterproof tape. This is because the tape does not stick to silicone. I realized this after fixing the driver's side rear door panel. I read the tape instructions more thoroughly & it says will not adhere to silicone. On the passenger side rear door panel, I only used tape & it worked just fine.

    Yes.. most car have the same problem.. after couple of years later..due to door panel sealant no more effective to deter water from coming in.
    Most of the time is the sealant problem, either sealant nearby the transparent plastic or nearby the speaker @ round shape there.

    I have taped all over the door to press the sealent they use down. And I still have leaks.
    The build quality of the car is dreadul. Removing the door panal showed they have the black sealent all over the place and the wires were cut to make them go through the plastic. They arent sitting in top like the one in the video.
    Now the front doors have leaks. This has been the worst car I ever bought.

      I have a 2016 and have the same issues. I have seen tons of people with these year Fits that have this problem. The door seals seem to be the biggest issue. I put a dollar bill between the door seals and shut the door and the bill slides out without a problem. I am surprised there isn't a recall on this with the amount of issues like this.

      Did you ever fix it? I put a piece of sheeting behind speaker. Kind of acts like a shower curtain. Any water that wants to go into back of speaker gets diverted to bottom of door and out drain holes. Worked for my rear driver side. Now just did front passenger side. I also poked hole in the top of the weather stripping on the bottom of door opening so if some water gets on it from the door in should drain out.

      @@D.D.T.123 My issue turned out to be the sunroof. I had a leak due to the sunroof not closing all the way. Water will pool in the channel just below the sunroof glass, then drip down the rear drivers side door. I need to replace the sunroof motor it seems. I don’t want to spend any money on it so I bought a car cover since I rarely drive anymore…At least I believe that’s the issue.

    Can’t we just install runner seals at the window bottom itself to reduce the amount of water that ever goes into the door in the first place? This draining into the door thing seems so weird and a set up for problems.

      This is ridiculously common in these years Fit , the door seals themselves are inferior. I can shut a dollar bill in the top inner seals of the doors close the doors and pull out the bill with ease. There should be a recall on this.
