In 1969 Fairway Ford sold F350 Super Trucks on the bumpside platform. They put a bed on the F350 chassis cabs. The F250 Camper Specials were too light to handle the big heavy campers of the day. My buddy has one of these Super Camper Specials. way cool, seen a few converted to 4x4.
They are great trucks. Another thing that folks don't know about this particular truck model is that the frame rails are narrower than the standard F150 or F250. That's because Ford used the frame that was designed for a class C motorhome chassis with dualleys. They also came with a camper anchoring system from the factory. It's all pretty cool.
the strongist back in the pickup truck industry. and still is .thanks ford for keeping us #1. great to be a owner of one for 35 years. very nice truck this is,,
I agree. Great trucks. I call myself a Chevy man but sure do seem to buy and drive more Fords. Might have to officially be a Ford man now. Thanks for watching and commenting.
My Grandpa had one (a 74 IIRC) And it was the exact color combo Brown/Creamy Yellow as shown in the advertisement - Almost like he pointed it out and said "THAT RIGHT THERE!" - He had a 390/4-Speed/4.10 (He didn't like Automatics for Towing his boat, so the 460, which only came with automatic, was not an option for him.) It would pull a house, and it wasn't made really for 75mph travel but it was a great truck... As I will explain I have had quite a few of the 73-79 Ford trucks, and have a ton of literature as well... Your Cab Tank was added, presumably because the person who ordered it new forgot to check the box for the rear tank...With a 460 should have been standard - LOL! - In my research I have found that *ALL* 73-79 RCLB F350 2WD Pickups in base form, have the 140" wheelbase w/spare tire on side, And the Camper Special and Super Camper Special were options on top of the base truck. - Camper Special package were available on most styles (F250 Reg cab or SuperCab and even 77+ 4x4 models) "I even had '78 F250SCLB 2WD Camper Special 460/C6/4.10 - Dual Tanks and Tool Box" - I also had a similar truck in 4-Wheel-Drive, F250SCLB 400/4-sp/4.10, but wasn't a Camper Special - BUMMER! - However *SUPER* Camper Specials ONLY came in this F350 2WD Reg Cab Long Box style truck. Also was a Trailer Special package on Ford Pickups and 3rd gen (75-91) Econolines (I had a Van so equipped) - Back in these years Ford was trying so hard to make a truck that appealed to everybody... So they had a crap load of options and configurations....
@Epic Cars @7:17 Your truck was obviously equipped with that in-cab tank from the factory. No, you don't have a third gas tank! That filled in round hole, which was likely done at the factory, on the driver's side bed panel (under the 'Ranger XLT' emblem) is where, otherwise, the standard gas tank hole would have been located and the hole on the front was for the optional auxiliary tank. Another indication to me that it might have been is the optional Ivy Glow Metallic paint (order code=N; you should find that code on your inspection plate); my point being, the extra cost. Anyway, the point I was making was about the gas tank hole locations and that is not only was it likely special ordered, but the factory arranged those locations.
They are very cool trucks. I just got a 1972 F250 but have always preferred the 73-79 trucks. Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck with your project!!!
I realize I'm very late to this party but I just came across this video today, the big tires which Ford called super singles were an option on these trucks, as you can see in the pictures of the ads that you have those trucks mostly have the standard 9.50x16.5's on the rear. I didn't think they offered the in cab fuel tank in those trucks as all Super camper special beds add dual tank holes drilled in them, I suspect this may have been an option to delete the rear tank because some people in those days wanted a slide out bumper for campers with extra overhang and I suspect that would have interfered with the rear fuel tank.
Very Cool Truck that's a F350 1 ton with 140" wheelbase due to the passenger side cover for the spare tire vs the regular versions such as F150 & F250 models
Very interesting, that spare tire location. I had a f250 camper special 23 years ago and the spare was mounted on the front bumper (until that was made illegal) where I lived anyway. My truck had something similar in the side of the side of the box, a tool box.
Nice, yes this truck was very cool. Sold to a 15 year old girl who is going to make it her first car. She will be the coolest kid in school! Thanks for watching.
I own a 1974 F350 Super Camper Special Ranger XLT also. I was wondering about your in cab tank? Mine 74 does not have an in cab tank, but has the mid ship tank as it called (which is my main tank) and a auxiliary tank which is behind the rear axle. My manual tank switch is located on the floor just behind the seat adjust. There is also a electric switch just to right of the heater control to switch power from main to auxiliary fuel sending unit. I am going to do some research….
They are very cool! They are very heavy duty as well it seems?!? U didn't mention what rear axle it was equipped with? Could it be a Stirling 10.25? I have 2 fords with that rear & they are a heavy monster of a axle!
Thank you. You know, I never looked up the rear end. Your probably correct. I sold this truck right after making video. Still going strong today. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The rear axle in that 74 SCS is definitely a Dana, most likely a Dana 70. The unique thing on those rear axles is the left hand lug threads on the left side only.
Are the "super camper specials" the only configuration where the spare tire is mounted that way? I feel like i saw regular camper special with the spare tire there but i could be wrong
A lot of 70s F-series trucks had an optional toolbox in that location, which might be what you've seen. On a standard wheelbase truck I don't believe there would be room for a full-size spare there. On a SCS the rear axle is so far back there wouldn't be enough space behind the axle, which is the main reason they moved it.
Already sold it but it was 8500. Went to a local family who is going to let their 16 old daughter drive it. A very cool first car!!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
If I had the truck. I would drive her to Central Texas with just a for sale sign on her. And I bet you within an a hour that truck would be sold. Because my uncle had the same but his was a 250 with the 400m and 4 speed. And I wish he had kept her. But he wanted to sell her. And I told him since the truck was a southern one. From Florida and if had taken her to Central Texas. Between Dallas and San Antonio. The truck would be gone in one hour. Because those guys from Texas love trucks. And I prefer the old school. Because it has personality. The truck is like a part of your soul. It talks to you. I hope to see some more old soul gals.
Sold this one to a local family last year. First time driver, daughter of a friend. She is still driving today. Great trucks and will be great for years to come. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yes, this was a cool truck. I sold it to a friend who was giving it to his daughter for her first "truck" when she turns 16. I figured that was a great reason to sell so went for it. I still see it around and she has really fixed it up. Thanks for watching and commenting.
. I have A72 F350 set religion so I believe it' Started in 72. How about it for parts truck the cab? Orange Russian company zone a restaurant in great shape. Don't restore 75 if 100 would motor?

It's either a 1973, 1974 or 1975 Ford Super camper special. Pretty truck.

The 1968 camper special offered an onboard generator up in the engine compartment.
I have a 76 F350 Super Camper Special in Whimbeldon White. Been an awesome 3 years with it
Nice. They are great trucks. This one is still going strong for the young lady I sold it too. She really likes it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@EpicCars that's awesome! I love mine and I'm never parting with it. 1 of 43 in Custom trim for the year according to Marti Report.

Mine was a real joy to drive as long as you were on dry ground and didn't need to climb anything too steep off the pavement.
I owned one of these back in the early 80’s . To this days I wished I would have never sold it . Mine had a 390 V8 with a manual 4 speed tranny .
Nice! I wish I did not sell mine either. Such a cool truck.
I'd be willing to bet those original beds are pretty hard to come by....especially these days!
Mark, I see them every once in a while but you are right. Hard to find. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yes they are. I have one and they rarely come up. Just the panel is extremely expensive if you find one

What size/brand tires on the rear? Fine looking truck
Ok, nix that question lol

I know for a fact I have a 75. It's tough to find 16.5 tires
