This was a great pick! I agree with Marty hopfully more metalheads can get into Whiplash.

Hail the Three Tony's Band. Good thing from Heavy Metallurgy, refraining the voracious passage of Time and focusing on a precious moment in the history of Metal. As I see it, Power and Pain is an East Coast Thrash manifesto, recorded prior to Slayer's RIB. Back in the day, it was through Carnivore i came across Whiplash. I ran a regional radioshow here in PT, from 85 to 97, and Whiplash were a recurrent presence.

My favorite Thrash/Speed album! I own 4 copies of this album, original "Price Killers" CD, Displeased Recs reissue CD, Wax Maniax LP and newest Music On Vinyl LP. Just need an original LP and Tape now!

One of the greatest albums EVER released.
I'm also the proud owner of Scaglione's 2 Slingerland bass drums from the Whiplash kit. Trust me, they sound even better in person!

As I see it, the first 3 albums define Whiplash soundwise, but for me, ''Ticket...'' is the one i elect as favourite, for its companionship along a decisive period in my life in 87. Power and Pain is absolutely speedthrash attakk, an album i often get back to. As Insult to Injury came out, there was a certain chill, but as soon as one gets acquainted with Glenn Hansen's vocal approach, and triangulates where he's coming from thrashwise, you immediately get the feeling / insight Portaro opted for a new leap into progression, granting vocals to a new acquisition and focusing more on the guitar-wise composition. So, all the first 3 albums are freaking brilliant, which, to me , sets Whiplash on the east Coast podium, next to Overkill and Nuclear Assault. Those are the EastCoast Big3, and i'm allowing NO more entries... just maybe another combo from the pre-history, who had lost it around the time of Ticket to Mayhem, as that group went into RapMetal.. . NOT Whiplash.

This is a fantastic album. Saw Slayer multiple times on the Reign in Blood tour, once was at the Tower Theater in Philly. Was in line right behind Tony Scavlione’s parents.
My memory tells me, and I’m probably wrong, that it was his first show with Slayer.

Growing up, a friend of mine in Cleveland had a label, spawned bands such as breaker, destructor, Black Death…..but I remember he had the demos from whiplash, a high quality five song demo and they were shopping for label I guess but he , or they did, decided not to work together and I remember being super bummed out cause I thought they were great. I thought he was making a huge mistake ( assuming he declined, which I think he did for whatever reason). Auburn records, turned down war and pain too which was def a mistake! But , whiplash, regardless, I think it’s awesome , and I submit to you , this was pre album, and at that time it was brutal thrash as far as I was concerned. Looking back from my current self I can see the speed metal thing, But it was pretty in your face thrash in 85 or whenever it at least that’s how I took it.
And for the record , I interviewed one of the Tony’s for zine and he was cool af
