Wow, I mean damn. That was one of the finest reaction videos I've ever seen. Beautiful the way you let the whole song play with just thoughtful little comments. That you took notes and then went back to show us what you had noticed was really special. Your whole presentation showed how you respected the music. Great video and audio quality too. I wish more people doing this sort of thing would take the kind of care that you just demonstrated. Gavin is -as always-5 stars. Going to give you 5 stars too...you earned them. Thanks.

Thank you for this reaction. You should check out Hatesong by Porcupine Tree, live from Chicago. Seeing Gavin Harrison play live with that band is something special.

The best part is that the drum part was written by Steven Wilson on a drum machine which was then detailed by Gavin Harisson, the ghost notes and all. Pure genius. One of the grooviest lines out there.

Owen: "This won't be a technical reaction, I'm not a technical drummer"
Me: "Cool, I may understand what he talks about"
Owen: Breaks down the time signatures, discusses staying in the pocket, timing, etc., etc.
Me: "Owen! You lied, you lied!"

    • @OwenAlec

🤣😂😂 That's about as far as my technical knowledge goes! I never had lessons, so I didn't learn theory... so I'm just kinda blagging it haha 😄

Cool thing about those verses is that the snare is consistently landing on every 7 8th notes. It's so cleverly constructed with the quarter note lead on the hi-hats, and the feet patterns built around the snare.

It took me a while to come watch this, but I finally took the time to watch it and leave a comment :)
Even though I don't consider myself a fan of Gavin Harrison, the guy is just a monster when it comes to groove and interesting drum patterns. Everything is so tight and beautifully composed and executed. I mean if somebody would ask me for a the definition of tasteful I would show him a playthrough of Gavin Harrison :D
As usual your reactions are so interesting, entertaining and insightful, you are doing great!
The drummer of this band called The Ocean (ok it is more a collective than a band) posted a playthrough of their latest songs if you feel up to react to 13 minutes of great prog drumming look up for Paul Seidel - Jurassic/Cretaceous - the track blew my mind and the drum playthrough even more. truly great stuff!

Muzak is a euphemism for soulless kind of "elevator music" type stuff.

    • @tommyfly
      @tommyfly 4 года назад +1

      Muzak (n.)
1935, proprietary name for piped music, supposedly a blend of music and Kodak, said to have been coined by Gen. George Squier (1865-1934), who, among his other important inventions, developed the system of background music for workplaces c. 1922.

If you’re referring to my outro, it was an original piece that me and my good friend Mark Morgan created for a product review I did a few years back. Search on my channel for ‘ProMark Hot Rods Review’ and it should come up.

Since you are reacting to new music too, would you check out Pineapple Thief? They have had Gavin for 3 years and their 3rd album with him will be out in september, a new track was released yesterday and I liked the way you were checking out Haken's Virus, would be fun to see that again! Or some of their live performances with Gavin!

Gavin would improvise when playing live, every show there is some new details. So although he sounds intentional, is more out off skill than anything else.

@@OwenAlec haha yes I guess u want to do justice to the artist and ur viewers. but i think most of the people watching this reaction videos are already familiar with the song ( maybe drummers) and just want to see if somebody with knockledge of drumming cracks a smile/ is surprised/amazed at the same fills and section.

at least that is my case. i can play many porcupine tree songs on drum and know them since 15 years. but i don't personally know a lot of people who enjoy their music or at least are able/qualified too see the brilliance of GH right away, so to feel part of a group and get some affirmation for my taste of music I watch this videos :D

I don't wanna be a toxic shit in the youtube but if someone who calls a BAND their NAME wrong and still calls another band better; he is making a huge mistake from the only song he've listen to LIVE!
It really turned me off :'(
