Dude. Your subscriber count has shot up like crazy in the last week since RUclips randomly suggested your videos to me. Glad it did. Cool to see and hear a perspective from the outside of the metal world. Love seeing how you analyze and interpret things from your perspective as a jazz drummer.
You were at 6k when I found you and subbed yesterday but now you're nearly at 10k not even a day later? Honestly stoked to see you blowing up, man. Can't wait to see where this takes you!
Jazz and metal is such an outstanding mix for drumming. On top of that, the sweet, sweet sound of those Sonor drums and Gavins impeccable taste for fills. OMG!
Thanks for getting this man 😄 I love how he actually uses every single part of his kit purposefully. Also his second base pedal is right next to the high-hat so he can tap both simultaneously.
Thoroughly enjoy your reactions dude, can't wait for more. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this band before, but you should check out Agent Fresco. They're a prog rock band from Iceland who's drummer is quite nuts. Any "Agent Fresco Drum Cam" should do. Keep up the good work!
@@justicedefreest Yes, you're right, it is on Normal EP and in some live album, Anesthetize i think. It's one of the songs that got a big band style version in Gavin's album

Whoah, this channel is getting bigger and bigger whenever I come back here. Congrats, Garret! Just wanna suggest you this (as you've been covering powerful songs, and this is powerful in a different way) "Lune" from Periphery/Matt Halpern. I think you'll interested in his drumming. Cheers!
They both came out around the same time 2007 for PT-Fear of a Blank Planet and 2008 for obZen, so IMHO, it would have been practically impossible for either Gavin or Tomas to be influenced by each other unless they were sharing recording studio space. Just two separate bursts of genius, really.

Fun fact: Those aren't splashes. They are bells cut out from various rides and cymbals matching the exact tones for the respective bands he's played for. Every bell/splash over there is a specific note.
Enjoying your contributions to the interwebs good sir. The drummer for Black Crown Initiate will likely impress. The band is top-shelf, underrated metal.
Just search for this on youtube: Periphery - CHVRCH BVRNER (Live Drum Playthrough) Matt Halpern's style is really interesting, you may dig his playing.
Yes Gavin Harrison! Finally. But I feel like Anesthetize isn't the best song to show off Gavin's skills. And this was only 1/3 of Anesthetize. Will we also get a reaction to the songs Bonnie the Cat and What Happens Now? Also, no word on the funky time signatures at 2:04 and 3:57 ? :D Also, how did you correctly guess that he was British? :D
Check out Jared Klein from Rivers of Nihil playing through their song "Death is Real" with drum cam footage. One take, no editing in post, and without the song's screaming vocals! (i think he was rehearsing for tour when he recorded)
Gavin is such an amazing drummer. Love this version :) you should check out Baard Kolstad from Leprous. Moon, Illuminate, Coma...anything really, he plays with such taste it's incredible!
Don't know if somebody mention him, but there's Dan Presland from Ne Obliviscaris too (an Australian death prog band, really interesting). He made several drum cam.
Marco Minnemann is also a very musical and technical master. Miroslav Musicant is the most complex player I've ever seen when it comes to independence. He has a few performances where there are 8 concurrent meters. He uses a whistle and hits a shaker with his head, since apparently four limbs wasn't challenging enough. It literally seems impossible to me.

Gavin Harrison has some really great educational books too, one called like "Rhythmic Illusions" basically a whole book of dope polyrhythms lol--he's an amazing drummer
Nils Fjellström aka Dominator from Dark Funeral is insane. maybe not the craziest in terms of time signatures and polyrythms but he is among the fastest players alive right now, clinically precise too
idk if it's worth a reaction or not, but there's a bongo cover of bleed where he actually puts all of the patterns on the screen as he's playing them, really cool to see the song broken down
Bearing in mind that I'm not a drummer, Gavin Harrison is my absolute favorite. The way he can fill the space, create great flourishes and not overplay (even when the music calls for him to hulk out) is something I really admire.
I loved your snarky puppy reaction, they’re so great! Can you react to Between The Buried and Me- Extremophile Elite? I think you’ll love the live video, the entire band is perfectly in sync and full of talent
It IS a song, a long one, but never feels boring because of the arrangement. You could check out his education books/DVDs. And yes, you talked through some of the really tasty fills there :)
Subscribed after your Danny Carey video. Guitarist here, but you might just have inspired me to pick up drums next year in my 30s. I had a very cheap kit when I was a teen, but gave up on it after my neighbors basically shut me down after a few weeks...

Amazing performance from Fredriks solo album. Just search for a TV live performance "Precision: Fredrik Thordendal and Morgan Agren - Sol niger Within" and youll get some good djent jazz.

Check out the Porcupine Tree live version of this song. It's 17+ minutes of drumgasm.
@Evyatar Hadar The live version is superior than the studio, it's a different generation of the band.
@Evyatar HadarExcept that John Wesley sounds a little sour on the solo.
@@andreaspedersen3952 Well... Alex Leifson from Rush did the Anesthetize solo so it's difficult for Wesley to do the same as a legend.
True.

Gavin is definitely one of the greats, so technical while still being calm and musical.
Baard Kolstad from
