I’m sorry an engagement ring is a conditional gift. If the engagement is off that means the condition for receiving the ring is broken, therefore it should be given back.
By that logic, give the wedding ring back bc it was “conditional” as well. But no one does that.
@@VONiiE8 Odd I had the understanding that each spouse chooses their own wedding ring and the couple buy them pair as a couple. Where as the engagement ring is something that is bought and given to recipient only upon acceptance of an agreement.
Basically engagement ring = accept this ring I bought and join me in marriage, wedding ring = We buy these rings to symbolize our union.
@@striker5501 from what I rmbr, traditionally the bride buys his wedding rings and vice versa but obviously couples are now doing what works best for their relationship.
But even so, the engagement ring is a gift and legally belongs to the one who was proposed to not the one who popped the question. It’s hers.

@@colinp8918 I’ve since learned differently. Also, each state has different rules regarding this. Some states says it’s a gift, some state says it’s a contract.

The purpose of an engagement ring is to have it as a symbolic promise to marry you. If you aren't engaged anymore the ring loses its initial purpose. So if the guy wants the ring back, you should return it. Keeping it against the guys will is from a moral standpoint basically fraud.

If it's a family ring I would give it back. I think it depends but for the most part I feel like you should be able to keep it and sale it if you want. Some questions that could be considered how much money are you able to get back from cancel your wedding. If you or your parents are the ones to lose that money the ring will get some of that back.

My man gave me a ring after 7 years when I decided to finally leave. He knew that’s what I wanted to keep me there for as long as he wanted, a dust collecter, a shut up ring. These men know, it’s a loan w interest to them so they can get it back and pawn it themselves.
