hey when your talking in 36.28 i feel you on that man you just got a good heart trying to help everyone dont change who you are keep on doing you man i wish you the best the world could use more people like you take care and keep up the good work
B20V EK, is a mid 12 sec car gutted with 212 whp. Definitely a great street race car. I love anything B series Honda Content. I own a semi built B20VTEC EJ1 myself. Been watching your channel for awhile now.
I know this video is 2 years old but I had this exact same problem and I figured it out! I literally did everything that he just did and more. It didn't make sense. People kept saying change the o-ring on the center cam cap but not one person says anything about the two small pins that hold in the 2 long dowels that the rockers are riding on. Those two small pins lock them in place and have some threads inside that a bolt from a distributor cat fits into so you can pull them out. Anyway after the 20th time disassembling my head and pulling those out I changed them for the hell of it and everything worked perfect after that. FeeTech engaged harder than ever. Those two o-rings hold a lot of the pressure trying to lock in the rockers. Hope this helps somebody because I looked and looked and I could not find anybody who had this issue resolved. So just replace both of those o-rings and do the center o-ring while you're at it and you will be good to go. I bought them from Honda for a total of $15. VTEC is back in better than ever
Coming from a guy who owns a foxbody and a ek hatch, I like your content and the honda stuff is more of my favorite. I am a born ford guy I must mention
Mr hunter tuned focus in what u can do and what gives you Money. without too much stress just explain and let the owner of any car that you can't be dealing with too many issues with a car in the dyno they need it fix and bring them back. Communication is the key
If the car isn't ready to tune. Turn it away. Have a basic pre dyno check list. Take 10-20 to look at the car before it gets strapped down. Pass no pass. What you are doing is hard. Good luck bud. Your time is worth more.
@@TheRealNolanStyles Unless Brent is charging per hour for repairs he isn't making much money. If your only charging $300-450 per tune and spending all day on the dyno, guaranteed his loosing money.
You a really nice guy. But you can't keep letting these customers stress you you out. Have a dyno check list like how humble performance does it. Great vids btw
I have a strong feeling this is my issue too and yes I did watch the video of you solving this. I just don’t have anyone to tune this for me to be sure it’s this problem.
Did you ever figure it out?? I'm no tuner yet but as a mechanic I've seen a couple different solutions for these issues. This is a basic point of view btw but it may help #1 issues for Hondas in the shop I work at is usually vtecs, but when it came to modified Hondas with altercations to their intake system their vtecs would act up. What I've noticed is that usually beefy ignition helps a lot, having turbo and what not needs that spark gap a lot shorter, a good strong spark, spark plug tester would help, you can observe spark physically as you pull, it could also be the wires. No matter the fueling, if that ignition isn't strong it won't budge, that's why when people say take fueling out it'll likely work which equals weak ignition system. By the sound of it, I believe the vtec did work before, so oil pressure is good to know. The other thing is check the viscosity of the oil and all that good stuff The other thing is the auto parts stores and cheap vtecs are likely on the no good end in my opinion, usually oem even used oem saves honda lives lol Ik I'm late, better than never Just started watching your content, I like it. Keep on!
It could still be the o-ring under the cam cap. Could be flattened to the point the pressure pushes oil into the head instead of pushing it into the valve train. You've tracked the pressure all the way to the solenoid. No way to tell what it is once it hits the o-ring. I agree with having a checklist that needs to be set and checked prior to strap down. Or it's known that the time spent fixing a problem comes with an hourly fee. If you don't value your time nobody else will. Helping to fix a problem is great way to spread the word that you're knowledgeable and personable. There isn't anything wrong with that. Just don't feel like you have to. You're good at what you do because you put the time in to learn, that has a value and it's worth something.
Great video. If the car is not ready for tune after you preliminary safety inspections, ie… oil, timing, coolant. I think one hour Diag time at customers expense, is reasonable. After that they need to either repair the issues or know they are paying shop rate. You can’t go broke for their inability to get the car ready.
@@HunterTuned truth!!. If there skilled and a good worker they already have a job. I have 1 tech been with me 2yrs and he's moving down south next month, I doubt I'll replace him atleast for awhile. It's difficult, we end up getting spread so thin trying to handle everything. It leaves little time for our personal lives and stuff.
Best to fix/investigate while the memory is fresh. Try replacing vtec solenoid and/or ecu. Hope it's not the oil pump failing. Could use more on-site helpers as some may see something that others missed.
I just put together a B20v with a type r head (non turbo). Im dealing with the same issues. Im lost to what it could be, i was hoping you figured it out. But man I feel your pain on this one. Ive tried everything but taking it for a tune. if i figure it out ill let you know

You really are a good dude, but you are absolutely right, you have to draw the line somewhere on mechanical repairs when it’s in for a dyno tune, especially a big problem that you shouldn’t have to be dealing with,,, or if the customer wants you to deal with it, the money it takes for it to become your problem should substantially increase to make it worth it, either way, don’t stress about it bro, but you can’t give your time away either. Good luck on it!
hey @huntertuned check in the head there is a plug where the dizzy goes into the head its in the corner of the head and sometimes cant be seen or overlooked because oil puddles over top it and can make it hard to see. its litterally below the were the cam and the dizzy meet. i myself just recently had my motor refreshed and the machinist took that plug out to clean it and it had the same exact symptoms oil pressure good , vtec was coming on but not functiioning in the map and falling on its face., i hope you see this and if it does help please let me know would be kinda cool if that was the fix.

I have to wonder if it’s the Hondata update. I keep having issues with my car hitting vtec. Same exact thing! Sputters and misfires like if the dizzy took an L or the timing belt jumped. My b16 crx has a very similar issue. Vtec worked perfectly fine before I put my eBay kit on, and now if I have vtec enabled on the s300 as soon as it’s supposed to cross over it feels like boost cut; it just hits a brick wall basically. I never took it to a tuner because I wanted to try and fix it first but no luck. Ended up cracking a sleeve ripping around untuned, swapped blocks, left the kit off, vtec works fine again. I want to put the kit back on and get it tuned but I don’t want to waste my tuners time if he can’t figure it out.
