  • I refuse to call it the "meta" quest.
Virtual Desktop makes pcvr on the quest 2 as easy as 1 2 3

You are my kinda guy. I wholeheartedly agree with you. This was exactly my experience and feel of VD. I stopped using the Reverb G2 because of this. On WiFi6 Q2 and VD are a super combo.

The confusing thing is, sometimes Airlink has been way better for me. With Virtual Desktop Ive had more stuttering in games like Into The Radius and this is at a lower Bitrate too. I like the customizability of Virtual Desktop but only use it whenever Meta messes up a Airlink update. For the record my PC shouldn't have any major issues. 5900X/32GB RAM/2080 Super.

That is odd, ive never had stuttering issues with graphics above say a 1070ti but i only play a few games

@@CoilWhine Yeah I'm really unsure why. I plan on wiping my PC soonish and I'll see if that changes anything but I doubt it, because it would be happening in Airlink too, but who knows lol.

I hope not to get banned, but if i am able to suggest i want to leave a little comment.
Virtual Desktop, that i bought, offers little configuration and it is very noob friendly.
ALVR offers, instead, more performance and more configurations. Why ALVR is better? Because it offers wireless connection without oculus runtime AND usb connection, avoiding the junk of oculus home or any proprietary software that is running in the background. It could be set also to automatically start when a VR game is opened, virtuaL desktop required to always run in the background as the oculus app.
You can decide to use it out of the box, as virtual desktop, and it should give you very good results and changing FPS limiters and codec is easy.
Virtual Desktop has the advantage of being on the store. But the developers proved to be very quarrelsome, as for example about linux support.
ALVR is free, open source, offers more performance and USB connection.

No reason to ban a comment like this, it's constructive and I do appreciate the perspective.
I figured ALVR would have a lot more customization options, I had just purchased VD after struggling with airlink. Reddit and other forums told me to try VD and it's been flawless for me. Figured it'd be the best bet to tell the average user about it.
I actually want to try out ALVR since I hear that it works on linux (and you seem to confirm that), since I'm slowly trying to transition to using linux as my primary OS.
Thanks for the comment and the view!

@@CoilWhine No problem, but anyway a lot of youtubers do the shadow ban for comments like mine.
ALVR works great on linux (your experience may vary, no problem for me with amd r5 3600 and 6800xt), but it would be better to stay on arch so you can have an easy life with the AUR. You could try manjaro, but you will need to fix the broken AUR system they have (just one command, easily found online i don't remember at the moment). Remember to install the closed source driver for your cpu (arch wiki), and corectrl to better tune the gpu and put a nice cpu governor (performance).
Yes, I bought VD and it is amazing for the average user. But, if you do sideloading, ALVR will give you an advantage at cost 0 (plus supports 120fps, different tracking and so on so on)!

Thanks for the video. What king of recording software are you using to connect the quest to?

I used Sidequest to output a stream, then OBS to record it

Great content but recommend you not move your head too much while recording, gets me really sick watching. :)

Yeah i tried to cut out as much head bobbing as possible, its kind of a habit when talking to a camera

Yo I'm actually watching a video for once. Now shitty take. ALVR BETTER GIT GUD
Edit: now that I finished the video. Lemme talk about alvr. Connecting to your desktop is actually easier in alvr from what the video showed. Alvr is more configurable, but virtual desktop seems to be simpler. I can talk about latency, but I get 80 millisecond of latency with a wifi 6 router on a 5ghz band. Both the quest 2 and my pc are wireless
