The OG M2 remaisn a special car.
Was looking at one in the bmw showroom today whilst taking my f87 m2c in for servicing. It looked a lot nicer in real life than pictures, would like to test drive one for sure.
65k and you have to spend thousands more just to make it look nicer? Think I’ll stick with my F87, it was great looking out of the box
f87 is a masterpiece.

I'm liking it more and more. Front and E30 sides look almost retro - boxy, DTM BMW. Backside... not so much. I like the upward 'swoop' tho. Bonnet too long, but you cant fix that.
Lowered, looks entirely in keeping with the bodywork. Didnt realise you'd done it! Very much looking forward to what you do with it -especially back end and under the hood. Gonna be an exciting project.
I think the G87 looks fantastic. Obviously the design language at BMW has hit a bit of a rut, but considering some of the designs we have had recently, I would argue this is one of the better looking cars in its lineup.
I prefer the f 87
Have you seen the AutoID g87? I think they did an excellent job of making the car actually look beautiful and even more aggressive. Excited to see what you guys can do with it!

For me the biggest styling issue are the rear lights, they are far too small for the body and just look really odd
I saw it for the first time in the flesh at Goodwood, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised.
It was in red and stunning, I couldn’t believe how comfy it was.
The cs will be expensive but one of the best M cars ever.
Perhaps we need to make a CS before BMW 🤔

I think it’s a great looking car. The fact that it’s the same weight as my e63 m6 is a bit wild though.

You made good valid points imran about how interior and tech is a good step up. But the looks are fugly by a longshot, the previous gen is more handsome and my upmost fave. Can you make it look better?!! 😅😅
The G87 is a hard sell. In Australia, a lightly used G82 will command the same money and I know which one I'd rather be in. But as an F87 replacement, this car is a bit of a joke, everything considered. No denying that Evolve will turn this into an absolute beast but out of the box, it isn't a car with traditional ///M DNA at least when I drove it. Everything feels a bit too 'grown up' and insulated.
If anyone can polish a turd, it's Imran! Looking forward to following this build.

I do actually quite like the looks of the G87, but the moment Starla came on screen, you just realise all over again how unbelievably pretty the F87s are. Its just such a shame they made this car so much bigger. It's no use to me down B roads around Bedfordshire/Norfolk being this wide, I don't want the stress of constantly having to try and squeeze it past oncoming SUVs.
You definitely feel the size compared to the F87.

I driven one yesterday and I didn't like how bouncy it gets on uneven surface back end going all over the place. I have a g82 M4 and you cant even compare the two - didn't expect how different it felt - id be quite interested to see what you will do to the suspension
Having seen the new M2 in the flesh I found it reminded me of those test mules rather than the finish product
Just wonder Imran what you think about putting some protection in for the rads as some big open spaces in front making them very susceptible to stone damage.

It would make sense. My M140i suffered ‘stoned’ radiator due to lack of protection (on later ones BMW put grill in place)
I worked in London for a year as an American and always wondered why the roads, especially B roads, are not maintained more aggressively. They're as bad as Denver Colorado here in the States where I worked a few years ago. Now Colorado experiences snow, slush, and hail all over the state then add salt and chemicals for de-icing which tears them up. Anyway, great vid. I like the new M2 more so in person and had my first glance when getting my first service on my G82 M4C...it's a great canvass to start with imo.

The design is clearly from the metaverse,but I'm moreso interested in the performance once the big tuners start really getting to town with this car.I've seen a shop somewhere in Europe who did a stage 2+ upgrade and the car was making just under 800 break,which is insanity.This new s58 engine makes the b58 look like child's play(no disrespect to the mighty b58 lol)
Power wise it will be pretty much identical to the G8X M3/M4, we have our own G82 M4 that will do a 9.9s 1/4 mile on 99 octane fuel.
The difference is this M2 is RWD, so the usability of that power is questionable.

Not a massive fan of BMW manuals shift to be honest. It ain't a Porsche or even GR Yaris
Made in Mexico on the cheap and sold at a Premium . The Old M2 had the X Factor .

BIMMERS were always heavier but handle better and better. Almost Everything high end is made in China so Mexico is whatever. I test Drove one and sealed the deal .
The windows are my favourite part of the design.

It doesn’t have a DCT. It’s a ZF 8-speed auto with a torque converter.
Generally find the manual in BMWs to not be that amazing, and spend far too much time in traffic.
I am not adapting to the large amount of coloured material on the seats. A subtle seam yes. That combined with door card tricolour splash and its a bit '17yr old' though I bet it's fun once jn the car hehe.

What i think you could do - and i put this to M division myself (i am a BMW employee) - is to make this between 140-170 kg lighter. At this point youd have the same power/weight ratio as 718 GTS 4.0, which would make for an interesting comparison. Another interesting project would be to take the s58 and to implant it into the previous M2, then you'd really see how much potential is in this engine when not laden with all that balast ..

@@bokiNYC i think if you gave the exposure and backing through partners, it would make a great series. Remember when Auto Alex / car throttle took that old e46 330d touring and week for week made it lighter / better. Was a cool series...
Too bad you cut the part when you get into the seat, I'd be interested in your strategy to get in and out of these seats. I'm still trying to figure out the best approach a couple of weeks after getting mine.
Just gotta go for it, grab the bull by the horns and get your arse in the seat!

The size is what throws me off with newer BMWs. I park my E90 M3 near an F87 M2 CS and it looks so large in comparison (the higher window line is probably a factor). The G87 M2 front clip is massive. I wish they would have stuck near the E82 size.
E90's almost look small nowadays and that's a big plus imo, nothing worse than having to worry about fitting down smaller lanes

It definitely looks too wide for the roads around me. My F87 M2 is even a little too wide. I enjoy driving my E34 M5 and 911 996 much more than the M2 even though they are quite a bit slower, just because they are that much narrower and less worrying to drive down the smaller roads we have.
Rear reflector area is the fffing worst. Just awful. The intercooler is going to go grey eith stone chips in a few months. With an xdrive comes out then with tuning will be a savage beast. Until then ill keep looking back at my OG when walking away.
this guy hasn't met a bmw he doesn't like. All good for the business model :D

F87 still the looker, the G87 is literally on steroids
I drove the base 2 Series and I liked it. Thought it was a great intro into the BMW brand. It looks great to me, I don't like the M Performance crap on it.
We drove the 220i and were really impressed!

There seems to be a rebellion against beauty, both in the fashion magazines with the models who are so ugly, and here with a child's concept of designing with blocks and a hatred of beautiful analog gauges for a twenty dollar eBay screen. It is like my first day using some design software back in the 90's and I was coming up with cars like this.
Why did you choose the auto over the manual? There is a clear division in opinions and preferences, what are the key reasons for your choice? Interested to hear from others who have made this choice.
Too much traffic in the U.K. to be dealing with manuals when the ZF is so good.

Incredibly capable chassis and drivetrain with a lot of potential. Looks wise I think there's a lot of ways owners can go to make it their own.
Great looking car to my eyes and taste however, after a test drive I can’t justify changing up from my F87 to the G87. G87 is faster, improved but not by that much unless you’re into lots of gadgets. The F87 is such a great car, still love it but I do want a 992 911S, one day perhaps.
F87 is still an incredible car for sure, luckily we can own both
The prices of these cars now is just ridiculous it’s not longer the “pinnacle” it’s just over priced for what it actually is a good car with a semi decent engine planted in it
Unfortunately this is just inflation in action, and if you track car values by inflation they don’t make the huge jumps in value they at first seem to.
Comparing UK launch prices, and the Bank of Englands inflation calculator, a G87 M2 costs £1000 more than the F87 did, which isn't a lot really.
The looks still hurt my eyes...... a face only a mother could love.
G87 just needs a front lip, lowering and spacers

Puts down power like a complete beast tho also you can download 200hp from this car just by a tune and intake and downipes so this is the modern monsters , comes heavily detuned from factory yet still when you dyno it it makes more power and torque then advertised

having owned 2 f80s including a cs and driven the f87, its not going to be hard for this g87 to be better than the f87. the g platform is night and day better to the f platform across all their bmw M cars
I’m glad it’s ugly and expensive as hopefully because of this My M2c should keep its desirability.
I think if you’ve not had the experience of owning the M2c then you will probably like it more. 😂
