I absolutely love it. It's the only car that has put a proper smile on my face after test driving it. Rear wheel drive, very quick and can be comfortable when cruising. I am holding off hoping they will realese some other colours or it will be black.
Funny to hear 12l per 100km on sporty driving, I had a test drive on Friday and got something like 25l per 100km in the mountains on my 150km test-drive, which included a bit of city driving as well. Nothing to complain about tho, at least not at the consumption. The downside is the very small tank.
Great review! I take into consideration LCT but I still think that these car markers are taking the mickey with what they charge us Australians. M2 in the states is 62k and that is give or take 90-91k AUD. Tesla have pulled the trigger on discounts and they are seeing increased volumes because of it and I hope that trend flows through to manufactures like BMW. If that car was 100k driveaway, I would buy one tomorrow without hesitation.
Issue isn't the manufacturer per se, more the governments over taxation on "luxury vehicles", shocking when as you say the same car in 9/10 other territories is 20-40k cheaper
If you're worried about fuel consumption then this isn't the car for you lol, here's a Camry hybrid I prepared earlier. Great review Tom, love me a good M2 or M3
Sure, but as a car to keep for a long time - in an era where petrol prices will probably only keep going up as demand starts to drop - half reasonable economy is a factor! Luckily the M2 does deliver that.
FIRST FIRST :) In all seriousness though, the lack of individual styling options on an 'M' car is not good, these cars command an absolute premium price, even compared to BMW's already .. substantial prices - especially after they put their Aus Prices up again this year with more on the way.
The display is like you are the engineer in the factory, testing the engine all day long as your job. More fun would be two analog gauges alone on the dash, one for the MPH and one for the RPM, nothing else.
Great review Tom. I like how the growl of the lovely old naturally aspirated straight 6 still persists under forced induction. Interestingly this M2 is bigger, heavier, more powerful and faster than the beloved E46 M3. But, around the same price as it was 20 years ago. It's actually the same price as a manual E46 M3 in present day. One could speculate that if it is the last manual, a likely future classic if prepared to hang onto, store and look after. In todays money, with more safety, tech and features over the E46, makes this look like a value proposition.
Unless you’re going with the base cayman, the M2 is the clear winner for the money. For a 718 gts at $95k a better comparison is a m4 competition for the price and you still have money for some options
Have seen a couple of other reviews and it seems the manual version is not that great so apparently the auto is a better option. No AWD option, why not ?? When you can get it on the M3. Thanks for the review

I like it optically more than the M4. But I would still save the money and go with a M240i G42 because it just looks better and still goes very well with the same B58 6 cylinder monster with lots of tuning potential.
Yes the M240i remains a great buy. If you cared about future collectibility the M2 is probably a bit more solid in that area but I’d happily own either as a daily.
I will never buy this car without the carbon seats, those dowdy plumped up standard ones do nothing for me. But I will also never pay £10k for the carbon pack, so thats me done unfortunately!

@@chasingcars Might not be too far off in the future. There are two Individual Frozen colors available for the M2 on the German configurator. Portimao blue and Pure grey.
It looks awful from the passenger side, but it's amazing when in the driver's seat. I also worried I would hate it, but it's great.
