Car of the Year.... Car of the decade! BMW M Sport at their best. And passes the supermarket run test. Beats anything any other German car designer and manufacturer produces. Yes Porsche, not so special anymore, I mean you! Thank you BMW for the M2! 💪💪👍
I think there’s a strong case for this being BMW of the decade. I think M5cs and M2cs would put in a good fight though. The M-Division are on a high of late 😮 As much as I like BMW, I’d be less effusive about them overall though. Their recent high points are tainted by unpopular/questionable decisions elsewhere. Porsche are on another level though. More special now, than they’ve ever been 😮 I don’t think this M2 would win unanimously as a drivers car, compared to a Cayman GTS 4.0. (And that car is on a 10yo platform) For two people, it’s also supremely practical 🤓
Once you look at the styling of the M2CS, you'll think otherwise. Mainly the front intakes, now they're actually styled beautifully, as opposed to just two big squares. Same with the rear. I was about to get a new M2, but once I saw the styling of the M2CS, I couldn't unsee how that should have been the styling of the standard M2. If you haven't seen the M2CS styling, Google it.
You will forgive the looks, price and weight when you drive one! Don’t give up on life and buy an electric car before you own one of these. Great review Tim, keep up the good work.
Agreed, the performance of the g87 M2 is out of this world. And that was about to get one, but then I saw the styling of the upcoming M2CS. And I'm so happy I did. Because had I bought the g87 M2, and then afterwards saw the styling of the M2CS, I'd be crying right now. Everything that's wrong with the styling of the M2 has been not only fixed with the M2CS, but made to look absolutely stunning. It doesn't have two giant perfect squares for intakes on the front bumper. Those intakes are styled nicely with some curves in them. Making the car look beautiful. Same with the rear big square bulges in the rear bumper. In the M2CS, they used a LFA style material in those rear bumper pieces that looks fantastic. So I ended up going with the 24 RS3. As a daily car, I'm much happier with this as I don't go to the track.
It's basically a race car. It's not a daily-use car. It is rapid and extremely configurable but it's not a fun drive. The M240i is a better buy if you don't mind filling up every 2 minutes. The 230i chipped to 310bhp is even more fun, usable fun, rwd and will return 42mpg. The G87 M2 is a 2nd or 3rd car.
Do you really worry about the fuel efficiency when you drive m240i or 230? I agree the M2 is not for a daily car but it will wake me up before arriving at workplace. :)
Re Fuel efficiency on the M240i. Yes it is something that myself and other M240i users complain about. And it's an odd thing. We have a pool car at my establishment and the M240i is always available. Why? The company pays for the fuel but the team tell me. Using the M240i means more trips to the petrol station and it also effects there fuel.spend for the month which has been capped to improve efficiency. The chap who uses ot regularly is always complaining about the inconvenience of seeming to visit fuel.stations more than he thinks is necessary. So yea in the real world fuel saving on an m240i is a thing.
@@Youppp I am driving an x5 M50i and I didn’t care of the fuel. It’s because the depreciation and insurance cost is way way more than the fuel itself. If the fuel was the concern then the hybrid rav4 is the one to drive.
Honestly fuel economy when I’m driving the g87 aint so bad. It’s not my daily as I don’t need to daily my car, but whenever I go long distances I don’t really need to fuel that much when in efficiency mode.
I noticed M2 was cheaper to insure than M240i. Not sure what that's all about. If you get more than 30mpg, your not driving it right. Go buy a Toyota hybrid instead.
My dealership just received my 2024 M2. I just couldnt pass on this unicorn. This will age like fine wine and in 15 years, looking back at it in my garage, I
It is a fantastic car! Of course the back seats can be flipped 40/20/40 Of course you can turn off the bongs (as written in subtitles) I am not a mega fan of black alloys but on this car they look better than the bicolor (arguably)
This could become the German R34 of the 2020's, with a Wide Body fromt the Factory. I see lots of Potential in this Car, pretty sure we see more and more builts on Sema etc. in Future.
Comp had no significant chassis tweaks outside of the software for steering, active differential, and traction/stability that could be updated to m2cs version on any m2. All it had was the front end bracing/reinforcement added from the m3/m4, the only difference in suspension feel would be from the additional weight, they also swapped the differential bushing to a rubber one with a poly sleeve since the original rubber one was prone to failure/cracking. Other than that it's just the engine, seats, and m mode buttons.
Looks like it’s fixed a big dislike (of mine) of the previous M2 Comp, which was that it was wonderful at 8/10ths and above, but very much low-rent 2-series the rest of the time, especially the interior, which you have to look at all day long. Adaptive suspension also sounds potentially positive - last gen was a bit of a boneshaker. The price hike is a bit of a shocker though - had my M2 Comp (it was a roughly £50k car) on a £420pm lease - not sure what financial engineering went into that, but it’ll be long gone these days I imagine. And black wheels. Nein.
I'm outraged! You had to go and mention the GR Yaris, didn't you! I miss mine, even if it did try and kill me 3 times in a weekend. Anyway, good nonsense. I'm sure the M2 is a great car and I even toyed with the M240i, but I can't get over the boxy styling. I'd have a Cayman (again), because I don't have kids and I only have one friend. Curvaceous cars are the ones that people call beautiful and last the test of time. Mura versus Countach? No competition (in my eyes). See you in 2024! On RUclips that is, I'm not a stalker. 😀
Nice video. If I were to go for a jelly-mould shaped car I would go for the M240i X. But I guess the big draw for officianados would be the proper M badge on your test car.
In short, I want one 😮 M240i is not 1yo yet though 🙄 I don’t even mind the way it looks 😊 I remember finding out about the brakes / reversing thing. I was in my own Renault five though in an emptyTesco’s car park, so my embarrassment was not shared 😂 + you really look like you enjoyed that. I’m glad you got to finish the year on a high note 👊🏻
From a guy wearing that outfit you have no basis to criticize the looks of any aspect of the car. And you are a typical British bloke anyway, so of course complaining always comes naturally to one of your ilk. Where we agree is that this car is fucking brilliant. 🤙🤙 P.S. just taking a piss out of ya mate 😺😉
Tim, are you going to start a petition to remove the irritating bong sounds from cars, I am sure nobody likes things like that but I know "they" want to start incrementally down the path to shutting down the car that goes higher than the speed limit.

Well said- love my G87 with 6 speed and exhaust!

I do like it.. can't afford such a car but I am glad it is still exists.
I wish it had the badges on the fenders and it came with forged wheels.
Damn you Rodie! I’ve watched this review several times, it must have had some subliminal messaging as I’ve gone and bought one…….!
Oh amazing! Enjoy it when it arrives!
@ Collected the buggar this morning. Traded the M440i (again, your fault…) in. I’ve not stopped smiling since. What a car. ❤️
Ha likewise and just ordered mine for March 25!

IV loved these M2's since they came out. Would love one👌 another brilliant review 🤙

Happy new year Rodie! What a great car
Loved your delivery, very refreshing! Well done.. hopefully my next car after several years of M235i ownership.
Thank you!
Nice job Tim. Like your style. Mine comes in two weeks!
Nice review Tim - these are getting ever more impressively professional . Hope the views pick up in 2024....
Great review, I have the exact same car for the same reasons as you mentioned. Except mine is a manual and I opted for the aluminum trim.
This could become the German R34 of the 2020's, with a Wide Body fromt the Factory. I see lots of Potential in this Car, pretty sure we see more and more builts on Sema etc. in Future.
What a smasher. The car is good too.. keep going Tim, we need more from the lay-by of justice

You can fold the rear seats down you just need to find the lever. Took me a while when I test drove
We’ve got two coming in January so glad they’ve got your seal of approval 😁👍
Verysideways 👍🏻

Hi Tim, what child seats are you using in the back of the M2? Thanks

Great video although I do believe in the rear seats do fold down
“It’s got more bongs than Snoop Dogg”😂😂😂
Very good review

The big draw?
That’ll be the chassis, engine, then manual option. Perhaps 🤔
You're right, as a pure driving machine it is superb, I'm offering the safe, but sort of similar, alternative. @@DontPanicDear
I’ve has my black manual for 6 weeks now and it’s absolutely fabulous
Previous Gen definitely looks better. Exterior wise, anyway.
In short, I want one 😮

I think the black wheels look awesome.

Catastrophically ugly car ...
