- In the second episode of Drugs Map of Britain , we meet a group of men who use violence to deal with, what they say, is the growing heroin issue in their area.
Every week, they collect discarded needles and believe those responsible must be punished. But how do they justify their actions and why do heroin addicts, in particular, face so much prejudice and stigma?

Yeah, pretty much the same thing the police does.
In Manchester the heroin and crack dealers are often from gangs that have access to guns and many of them don't think twice about shooting at people's homes as a warning and some are completely willing to shoot at someone if they thought that they had to.
These lads know full well that they would come off worse if they tried to get the class A dealers from their area, and groups of beaked up divs, who go bullying skinny and unhealthy and scared heroin addicts, definitely wouldn't be as keen on taking on the potentially very violent heroin and crack dealers.

Heroin junkies are in part the victims of the dealers, growing up in a place where heroin was rife, I've seen exactly how this drug takes hold of decent people and turns them into single minded addicts that will do almost anything to get a fix.

@@OryXity hence why I said "in part" and not exclusively, you have to be logical about this problem to really understand it. If young people are not properly educated and don't know just how addictive and destructive a drug like heroin can be, there is a higher likelihood of them trying it and from the first hit many are already on the path to becoming addicted. I was lucky enough to see for myself as I grew up just how much this drug can change people. So learnt to stay well away from it.
It can change a decent person into a low life , its so addictive, that nothing else matters except getting the next fix.
If you tried it a few times it's very likely you woudl become an addict. Think about that for a moment
@@phil3038 people that try it are the problem, they arent victims, they made a choice to go down that path when they cooked heroin with a solvent, put it into a syringe, removed any air then put it into a vein while a tornequet is wrapped around their arm, then they change as you say, the fix becomes a neccessity and they will commit inhumane acts to get it, shut up "they didnt know it was bad" just the amount of steps you have to go through and the fact AROUND the world its a class A drug, noone has the excuse of saying theyre a victim of the addiction, if they want to get better thats good for them, but any ACTIVE users need to be jailed or put down before they put actually innocent people down (the ones thay didnt CONSENSUALLY put heroin in their blood)
In this case, illegal stupidity kills innocent people so stupidity should be punished not forgiven

Heroin addiction doesn't always start with getting high on heroin, for some like me it started after I was given pain killers after my car accident but as I was cut off and had to detox, it was too painful for me to detox.. people who never been through the withdrawals can never understand

You then post a list of symptoms which include CRAMPS (they are painful) and sensitive to pain (I get lower back ache and so do other heroin users).
As for me being ignorant - Codeine is metabolised the liver into Morphine.
Codeine has a potency ratio of 1/10. Therefore 100mg of codeine is the equivalent to 10mg of Morphine.
I am prescribed Codeine for Arthritis and I take 360mg per day which equates to 36mg of Morphine. I also use Heroin - which is also metabolised by the liver into Morphine.
I use 1 and a half grams per week in addition to my codeine.
To prevent tolerance build up - once a month, I will put myself through cold turkey.
So don't tell me that I am ignorant when I explained that the increased sensitivity to pain is caused by the body not producing endorphins. Clearly - you do not even know what Endorphins are.
By the way - don't try to teach your grandma how to suck eggs!

I get that they have issues with addicts leaving needles everywhere, especially where kids play. They're acting tough though, picking on some of the most vulnerable people in the world. Beating up dope heads with bats doesn't make you tough, or fix the problem. If they had any brains they'd know attacking homeless folks just moves them temporarily to another abandoned building, or park.

These people clearly have absolutely no idea what opiats do to your mind and body. Heroin addicts don't generally want to become an addict and a lot of them start due to peer pressure. Opiat takes hold of you, it takes over chemicals in your brain, and they make you seriously sick when you don't have any. They will do anything to get hold of what they need because it becomes torture if not. Smoking cigarettes is very similar but the withdrawal isn't close to as bad, but the principle of it is the same, a smoker craving will do all sorts to relieve their pain, for example picking tabs aprt from an ash tray or even from the street. It's also no different to taking opiat pain killers which many people become addicted to. So the point is that these people need help not battering wtf!

I feel people are missing the point and talking about this drug vs that drug. Seems like its a bigger issue of people leaving dirty needles, squatting and stealing. Heroin is likely one of the most amazing things ever, people (relunctantly) give their lives to it. Personally if dirty needles were everywhere and my kids couldn't play safely I would wanna give those responsible a good kickin.

Come on, they're just using the needle excuse as a way to be vigilantes and show what big hypocritical drug users they are. No-one wants anyone stuck with a syringe but it's not only heroin users that use syringes. The Council needs to get of its arse and clear out these syringes from areas like that field or wherever people use to walk through or children play. All syringe users need to carry something to put them in once they've finished. In my Country we have syringe bins in public toilets so there's no excuse for leaving them around. These vigilantes are only looking for something to do while they're high, they don't give a toss about the drug situation as they're addicts themselves, one even admitted to dealing. Charming guys aren't they! NOT.

i dont know about you. but from what i have seen heroin is so much worse in what it does to a person. ive had friends that do cocain and some that do heroin.

Chris Hale if you only knew how widespread cocaine use is....your doctor, your police officer, your solicitor, accountant, council official. Coke is everywhere. Heroin creates immeasurably bigger issues. Coke does too, but millions of people take Coke. Nearly everyone who dabbled in smack becomes an addict. Crack, mostly, is used by dual crack/heroin addicts. Very few powder cocaine addicts. There are crack addicts who just do crack, quite rare though. Weed is almost as widespread as tobacco, it really isn't a gateway to anything except lazyness and Jaffa cakes

Years ago there were signs in Salford saying "Sell Smack, Get smacked" . It was a local villain that enforced it. The Police did nothing.

Any addiction brings out the very worst in human nature, which makes it very difficult to empathise with, but violence breeds violence which inevitably leads towards a race to the bottom.
Perhaps on a subconscious level they're ridding the locality of one of the more serious forms of addiction in order to refocus and draw attention back to themselves because once the homeless heroin-injectors are gone, the homed cocaine-users will gain more status and notoriety within the community.
It could be an obscure cry for help.

Needles are messed up.
Basically a lottery of life sentence of misery for whoever ends up standing on it.
What's worse is that they burnt the sharps in a shoe, so, despite them perhaps being cleaner, they haven't been disposed of correctly, and now they're all condensed in one area, so if anyone sweeps through that ash they're going to have the worst day ever.
When I was a kid we used to all play on a massive field on an estate in Newcastle upon Tyne where we were inches away from standing on used needles, police were called and said to are parents we need to pick them up and move them. I don’t agree that they throw their needles everywhere why not take them to the pharmacy and get them taken away properly and safely. I’m not saying all them are the same but they should take in consideration young kids and people need to walk past their dirty needles.

I started on heroin when I was about 20, now I am in mid 70's I have been addicted to opiates all that time and will always be. I managed to get stable thanks to a caring doctor and methadone/physeptone.
I will be physically addicted right up to the end. I even cut myself down from 80ml a day to 20ml a day.

Mate I was addicted for 25 years and after 5 years of methadone 80mil I have been clean of both heroin and meth for over 2 years but still use subutex 10 mg daily to keep myself from being bad

Place against a hard surface,tilt slightly and jam it down hard.This breaks needle off inside cap,and is now perfectly safe!At least it's safe from hurting someone ,now.People are not the most observant creatures,but if this technique was taught worldwide ,instead of just tossing it,cap or no cap;we would see a massive fall in HIV

The justification for using cocaine compared to heroin is such an immature outlook on drugs,, they say its their choice to shoot up and in away he's right but also, drug addiction is part of a disease, addiction is a disease, using opiates changes the structure in a person's brain over time and the sickness from not using is bad enough but when that uncontrollable need to use to not be suck is crazy...
