Meet Jimmy The Weed: The Legend Of The Quality Street Gang | British Gangsters | Real Crime

- One of Manchester's most infamous gangs, formed in the 60s, was the Quality Street Gang. Named after the advert which showed a group of well-dressed men walking into a pub with a certain swagger, the gang was well known for sending the Krays 'packing' from Manchester when the brothers tried to expand their operation.

my father was a similar man to these guy's back in the day in Scotland and the stories i've been told are horrendous. but the same thing happens they all end up old men that looked like bullies and nothing to be proud of.
I met someone on holiday in Corfu once whose hairdresser in Grimsby had a cousin whose next-door neighbour once met a man in Spain who claimed to be part of the Quality Street. He was known as 'the Round Chewy Toffee' and was a legend.
No one messes with the round chewy toffees they'll pull yer teeth out. There's a reason why they are left in the tin
Sounds a wee bit like your stretching the truth a bit 👀
My Nan's cousins friend knew one called "peanut brittle", was well hard.
The Krays came to Liverpool as well. When they got off at Lime Street station they were met by Ken Dodd, Cilla Black and Ringo Star. Ken tickled Ronnie’s bottom with his tickle stick and Ringo whacked Reggie over the head with his drum stick. Despite Ronnie usually liking a bit of bum tickling, he and Reggie both got the first train back to London, never to return.
Bum tickling 😂😂😂😂
I laugh so hard I farted 😢😂😂😂😂
Best comment so far 😂
Sounds legit
At least they didn’t get near the kids of Liverpool
yawn...
Many people who do long stretches in jail come out with the same mental age as they went in. Some have not progressed past “who is the hardest” in the school playground and spend their lives being controlled by people who are not hard at all.
I know quite a lot about this subject, as I've done quite a bit of "time" myself and, I really have to say that what you've just said is a load of bollocks, I've never heard such rubbish, go and try it yourself - "some time in the big house, maybe then you'll have the right to talk bull shit innit"? 🖤❤️
Mate I’ve served 16 years and I agree with some of what you said. When you go in you stop maturing the same way you would in the real world, but your principles is what makes you who you are regardless of where you’ve been.
When I hear these people speak so proudly about "Being Violent all my life". My only hope is that someone gives them the same level of treatment or even worse than that which they have dished out over the years. I really hope that old saying of "There's always someone younger, bigger and harder" is very very true. Only thing worse that a bully is a proud bully.
Well said sir!

Krays were never sent packing. Not in Manchester Liverpool Newcastle or anywhere. All local myths.
Every town has a myth about how the local hard man sent the Krays packing when they got off the train, even Reggie laughed about it and said they never ever travelled by train. The other myth every town has is that their local council estate is the biggest in Europe.
Wythenshawe does have the largest council estate in Europe, thats a fact.
Agreed. It looks like every place they visited they were sent packing. Of course they were. I bet every city they went to,the local hard men were all over them. Wanting to be seen with the krays

They didn't see the krays off as such, the krays came to Manchester and left because the police was monitoring their every move.
Correct and even stated so by the leg end himself Sir Weed in his book QUOTE :: " In his autobiography 'The Boys Are Back In Town', notorious QSG member Jimmy 'The Weed' Donnelly explained how the popular version of events is "cobblers" and in fact The Krays were friendly, and it was the police who confronted the twins and told them to "behave themselves" before they left Manchester peacefully the next day "
The Whalley Range was never a hotel, it was actually called The Clifton Grange, it was a "digs" for entertainers during the sixties. Phyllis was the landlady and owner, with partner Dennis. There was a bar in the digs where entertainers unwound after shows in Manchester clubs. This covered the period 1964 to 1969, and never saw much gangster activity though Phyllis was obviously well connected with the underworld, but in what capacity, who knows. Phil was around, but a very young lad at the time who lived primarily in Ireland and came over for visits.
The pub shown in this video was called the Whalley, at the top of Upper Chorlton Road, now closed. There is/was no such place as the Whalley Range Hotel. The place he refers to is actually called the Carlton Club, in Whalley Range. still open and trading.

When i used to go to the twisted wheel only a few years ago 2016 ish we where in Monroes Pub near the railway station ,when a local Manchester old guy pointed out some smart old ladies that he said where the wife's of the Quality street gang ..
To my understanding Jimmy The Weed was named that because he sold cannabis and it was frowned upon by the original members of the QSG. It was used in a disparaging way. Drugging up the children of the families they knew in the areas they lived in wasn’t a way they were going to make money. A good portion of the money that the members of the QSG got through criminal activity was funnelled into legitimate businesses (granted not always run in a legitimate manner). Some lost money and run business into the ground. Some died wealthy as respectable hoteliers and boxing promoters.
My mate's old fella was a friend of one of the QSG- can't recall who it was. He went to his house asking for money- his dad had none to give. A lot of the talk about these people is BS. How successful could he have been to have to resort to asking someone he didn't even know that well, to lend him a couple of grand?
the quality street gang were a joke really, named after a quality street advert absolute joke in manchester
He literally told you where he got his name but you seem to know better than the man himself.....🙄
And now alot of them live in Cheshire and the nicer bits of south Manchester. Turns out funnelling money into businesses worked out well.
Was cannabis called 'weed' back then, when nearly everything available was hash? Correct me if I'm wrong, I live in the south but 'weed' only became a saying here a good while after the skunk took over in the 90s. Before that cannabis was called pot, gear, puff or draw but never ever weed. Weed itself was always called 'grass' until 92 or later, and then was called skunk as a generic term whatever the actual strain. I'd say maybe 95 before weed became the only or main phrase used ..
I can't help but think they weren't successful at all. Being in trouble and locked away aged 12 - being locked up becoming a constant event. To me that means failure because they were caught.
8:17 his knackers look sore af!
