Some time in the early 70s my older brother bought a box of 8-tracks from a guy he worked with, when I was about 14. There was one from a group called Frijid Pink. The only song I recognized was a song with the same name as an Animals song so I thought I would give it a try. To this day it's, to me, the very best version and is on my play list on my phone.
One of my favorite songs in grade school. Was blown away by the guitar work and that badass clear voice. Never understood why Frigid Pink never made it bigger- they should have!!!👍👍🎸🥁🎼❤️

He didn’t even need to think about playing it was automatic, so he could focus his full undivided attention on the wah modulation, and he made it sound just like a rolling river. Completely hallucinatory. I’ve never found the video again, but occasionally I remember it and look for it

This is the ultimate psychadelic tune from that era for me. First heard it on a tiny sounding am radio and it knocked me out then. It is a joy to hear this sonic masterpiece through a decent speaker system. Childhood dreams do come true sometimes.

That's saying somethin' if they are 2nd to Blue Cheer. They held the record for me till years later AC/DC was so loud my ear drums were distorting. It's no good if you can't understand the music because it is to loud.

I wish music would go back to what it was back then. The technology has advanced so much they could even be superior than what it was back then if they had the heart to do so. I remember watching the movie, Remember the Titans, quite a while back with a crowd of teens in the house. When this song came on during one scene, I nailed the title and band on the first note. The kids were amazed that I could do it, since they had never heard of it.
When we used to get totally drunk and stoned in college in the 70's, this epic song was what we closed the night down with... best song cranked at high volumes...

I also have just stumbled over this version recently and have fallen in love (tho feel like I'm betraying the Animals) FP has such a raw and aching sound in voice and guitar. Heavier and more psychedelic version than those that preceded it because that is where rock music had moved to at that stage. The Animals' version was considered pretty heavy when it came out. Music in many ways is a time capsule.

Seems like every cover of this song tries to play slow with just powerful vocals. But none try to make it badass and hard rockin like this. Not just the vocals are powerful, but that kickin beat, and that ripping distortion of a lead guitar.
ajaxthegreatful, back in 69 it was considered hard rock... A liter version was required...still there were a lot like me that preferred this version. They were just to early with the style to be a hit then...Frijid Pink never got the creds they deserved....they were great.
When i was 15 (in 1977) i had over 900 albums in my collection, and i subscribed to an underground Rock Album magazine, but never heard of this band until now. My great grandfather's dad was born in Germany, he moved from St. Louis, MO. to Detroit where my grandfather & dad were born. So this band has a special place in my heart.
That's TOM HARRIS, Original Bass Guitar with Frijid Pink. His sister Judy Harris was Band Manager (my dear friend) and handled all their Fan mail, T-Shirt sales, Record sales. Her husband was Tour Manager. Frijid Pink toured Europe and Australia where they were smash hits!!!

Bought that record as a 15 year old in 1971. I think the flip side "Drivin' blues" is the best song they ever recorded.

ajaxthegreatful, back in 69 it was considered hard rock... A liter version was required...still there were a lot like me that preferred this version. They were just to early with the style to be a hit then...Frijid Pink never got the creds they deserved....they were great.

This is an oldie that really is a goldie.
When i was 15 (in 1977) i had over 900 albums in my collection, and i subscribed to an underground Rock Album magazine, but never heard of this band until now. My great grandfather's dad was born in Germany, he moved from St. Louis, MO. to Detroit where my grandfather & dad were born. So this band has a special place in my heart.

His sister Judy Harris was Band Manager (my dear friend) and handled all their Fan mail, T-Shirt sales, Record sales.
Her husband was Tour Manager.
Frijid Pink toured Europe and Australia where they were smash hits!!!
Oh yes!!! Another great Detroit Michigan band. They took this tune to a whole new level.
