Excellent review! I loved how you got to the point. This was so helpful for me. I'm a woman in my late 60's and every spring I have a hard time getting my John Deere going. You explained it all so well. You helped me so much. Thank you.
One note: When using an "automatic" charger (not like the manual one you used) sometimes you are required to plug the charger in first! I actually just found this out today! Video saved me though, damn appreciated.
@@DustinT Same here. my dad just taught me. Your video is very useful. Our John Deere L-110 has been with us for 16 years, ad she is still going strong. She just needs new paint in some spots, a new seat, and maybe new tires next year.
I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Supposed to keep ur bat indoors (garage) ideally and on a trickle ( tending) charge to keep from sulfate condition over the winter or if not being used for a couple mo. Lead acid Batteries go south because of no use. Btw most u1 batts need around 8 hrs to a full charge is attained. If it holds a 12.8 v charge over 12 hrs after a charge its considered good. *** Keep it on a trickle charge outside if u dont have a shed or garage dont keep it in ur house tho..
I had to buy a new battery for my John Deere mower because the old one tested bad and was 5 years old. After connecting the new battery, I put a new one of these tenders on it. It immediately went to "solid red". Should the new battery really need charging? I use the battery cable claps to connect it. Thanks
I think my dad left the headlights on and killed the battery. Got it jumped and he did the mowing. He even got off for about half hour and still worked. He finished the lawn, came in and went back out a couple hours later and battery dead. I was getting a click. The first time wasn't even getting that. My question is is the battery ok? I am worried he killed the battery leaving it on before. Second is it just not getting charged well enough? Like how long should I charge it for? Also anything else to help. You did help some think he did kill the battery and just need to charge it longer.
That is recommended to get any spark away from the battery which might be giving off explosive gas. It may be hard to get a good connection somewhere else. With my tractor, for some reason the automatic charger would not work unless the battery was disconnected.
Unplug it, remove black negative then red positive. As a rule NEVER mess with red positive when the black negative is hooked up - all batteries. Means red is installed first, and black is removed first.
@@tonyg2859 We are in lock-down for another month in Michigan, and are not allowed to have people come to our homes, and so I am trying to get my old lawn mower up and running all by myself.
Does it crank solid and consistent? If it seems weak, I would think the battery is low. If it cranks strong it’s not getting spark, gas, or air. So if check the spark plug and make sure the gas is fresh. I highly recommend stabil for ALL gas put in to mowers. It makes starting them after sitting so much easier. Hope this helps buddy.
I charged my battery and the lights went on. So I stupidly tried to start the engine while the charger was still hooked up! Did I destroy the battery? I removed the charger and it won't start now. The lights work. Please advise. I liked your video and should have been more careful.
+Zendora Le Rue Hmmm... I wonder if maybe it just blew a fuse somewhere. Do you know if your mower has any fuses anywhere? You should be able to start it even if you are charging it.
It doesn't die while your using it the battery charges as you use the tractor the only times it will mostly die is when it is left out for a while and not used
@@DustinT I heard that you should only do it if it's a 6 volt battery but not a 12 volt especially if it's been sitting all winter and completely dead not sure if this is true or not
Thank you! My husband passed in May (cancer) your video gave me the guidance and confidence to get the riding mower started.

thank you for this basic video. it may seem basic, but i didn't even know that much! now i feel safe doing this myself! :)

Thanks. I was unsure if I could hook the negative cable up to the negative pole while connected. My first tractor dead battery. Lol. Now I know 😂

Great advice. Great video. Always like it when I can learn something.
How do I measure that the battery is “fully charged?”
Ive got a D110 too....Ive seen others suggest that the negative end should be attached to a part of the frame and not the negative battery post?

Do the bolts on the battery have to stay on? or is okay to remove the battery from the mower and just hook it up
Spencer Lacroix hey buddy! Either way will work, I’ve done it both ways. It won’t hurt either way.
Thank you for this video

@@DustinT never heard of stabli what is this you mean a stabilizer ?
is it safe to do this in my garage
Sad that the larger sticker says 50,10, 2 and then the slider is and it label is 2, 10, 50 ... classic.
Good catch; I noticed that too and it was confusing.
Why dont you keep the mower clean?
What do I do when I disconnect it
Thank you!
I wanted to see it turn on.
my battery is removed and the posts have a bit of scatching on it from the bolt , is that ok to go ahead and charge?
Not to worry, you are safe to go ahead and charge the battery
many thanks
