Another thing that’s really important: sometimes you might want 0 IVs in Speed or Attack (or both). 0 Speed is useful for Trick Room teams and 0 Attack is useful for special attackers so you do less damage to yourself when you’re confused. It’s also important because you CANNOT Hyper-train for 0 IVs, the only way to grind for it is to breed it onto your Pokémon. You can do this pretty easily thanks to the Power items. The Power items (purchased for BP) can be given to a Pokémon while breeding to give it a 100% chance that it passes one specific IV down to the baby. The IV that gets passed down is different for each different Power item (for Atk it’s Power Bracer and for Spe it’s Power Anklet). As long as you have ANY Pokémon with 0 IVs in the stat you want to breed, as well as the Power item for that stat, you can chain-breed it onto the baby by checking the overlap between egg groups and finding Pokémon that can be used to breed from the egg group of one Pokémon into the egg group of the Pokémon you want. You might have to breed 3 or 4 different Pokémon to get there, and I don’t think there’s an automated tool you can use to figure it out quickly, but by comparing the different egg groups you can map out a breeding chain from one Pokémon to another.
Best explanation I've been able to find. Been playing Pokemon since Yellow on the game boy color but this is the first time I've bred for competitive play. Thanks for taking the time to make my life a lot easier!
A little more on abilities: If you are looking to use a hidden ability, you'll need to use a hidden ability parent of the same species of Pokemon (an Impostor Ditto or other hidden ability father won't cut it) in order for the children to have hidden abilities. There's around a 50% chance of hidden abilities being passed on. You'll want to make sure the Pokemon which has better IVs than its parent also retained the hidden ability before you swap it into the daycare in each step of the process. If you're looking for a particular non-hidden ability, there's an 80% chance that the mother (or non-ditto parent) will pass down the slot of its ability. A pokemon has two ability slots regardless of if it has two abilities, so for example breeding a Gallade with a Ditto will give 80% either Synchronize or Trace Ralts, despite Gallade only have Steadfast for abilities. You'll want to keep the right ability so your odds of getting the right IVs and ability go up. If you have a Pokemon you want to use but has the wrong non-hidden ability (for example, you hatch a shiny Wooloo but it has Run Away while you want Fluffy), you can buy an Ability Capsule in the Battle Tower for 50 BP which will allow you to change it. However, the Ability Capsule will not allow you to give a Pokemon its hidden ability, nor will it let you give a Pokemon with its hidden ability one of its non-hidden abilities.
ive been breeding a milotic (marvel scale) with a bold ditto with an everstone. so far, all of my feebas offsprings are bold but none have Adaptibility (which is the Hidden ability). Any idea why that is? ty
@@christophemartin8201 Your problem seems to be that Cute Charm is Milotic's hidden ability. If you're looking for a Marvel Scale Milotic, you'll want to evolve a Swift Swim Feebas. If your goal is to get a hidden ability, you'll have to find it in Den 44 ( www.serebii.net/swordshield/maxraidbattles/den44.shtml ) or get one in a trade.
Wow. This was a fantastically comprehensive and well worded overview of breeding!! Incredible resource for anyone starting out in competitive. Great work!!!
Didnt know that about the power items. That would help but you would need to buy all of them, which would take a lot of grinding. But all of this does. Pokerus definitely helps. hey sorry to bother you a month later but I wanted to ask if you know, I have a 4 perfect IV ditto and a 4 perfect IV timburr, timburr has everstone and the desired nature and ditto has the destiny knot, but I keep getting 4 perfect IVs at best on my bred pokemon. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it still a low chance to get 5 perfect IVs?
@@RednasYo its okay dude i have a few dittos there easy to get and i dont have a timber but could get a 4/5iv easy with breeding it with a ditto and the way your doing it is right keep at it but if all the stats your carrying over are the same there is a low chance for it to get a added stat they both dont have.
@@RednasYo that's because both the parents have 4 Max IVs. You can't get any better stats then what combined your parents Max is. If you had a perfect 6 IV ditto you'd have a perfect pokemon eventually. Like as an example if you had a timber with IVs like this 3'3'3'3''3'3 and a ditto with IVs like this 3'3'3'3'3'3 it will only make 3'3'3'3'3'3 at max IVs offspring. If you had a ditto with IVs like this 6'6'6'6'6'6 but a timber with IVs like this 1'1'1'1'1'1(even though this is less then the other timber) you can get a perfect 6'6'6'6'6'6 IV timber because of the ditto making up for the other parent. The destiny knot takes 5 stats of either parents so your just constantly breeding and switching out the non ditto parent to increase the chances of getting all of them perfect. another scenario you can have is a ditto that has 4 Max IVs with 2 bad IVs like this 6'6'6'6'1'1 and still create a perfect pokemon as long as the other parent can give the possibility of fixing the others shortcoming like let's say having a timber with these IVs 1'1'1'1'6'6. I hope this isn't to confusing.

*A couple things I want to point out:* -You can get vitamins for 2BP each at the PC in Hammerlocke City -The Poke Jobs can be exploited with the Watt farming technique and can also be boosted by the EV training items *To elaborate on the second point* Place your pokemon into a Poke Job and do the following: 1. Use a wishing stone to summon a max raid encounter 2. Select "Invite Players" 3. Hit the home button on your switch and go to the settings 4. Change the date to the next day and return to the game 5. Back out of the "invite players" menu 6. Go to a PC and take your pokemon back from their job If for some reason the job isn't done just repeat the steps and try again. If this wasn't clear enough then lookup a Watt farming video.
CreamyGoodness random question but if I’ve hyper trained a Pokémon for all 6 of its stats, can I still give it 52-53 vitamins? I feel like I’ve given it a lot less and it’s been saying that the vitamins work have any effect. You know why that could be?
By far the best guide on this topic I have seen on RUclips. Yes this is a lot of information but you clearly explain each point and dont blote it with extra rambling that a lot of other guides do. Well done! Thanks!
Very informative video. Thank you! Though there were a few things I feel like were missing. You didn't explain using the ability "flame body" while hatching. I still don't know what "jolly" nature does and why it is the best. And isn't there a way to give one specific stat over to your bred Pokemon with the stat bracers (in combination with the destiny knot on the other one), or doesn't it work in S&S? Also what does the everstone do? Only keeping the nature of the Pokemon or something else also?
2 years later and this video still helped me 😁 thank you. Only part that confuse me a little was understanding how synchronize made the wild ditto have the nature of my Pokémon but if you are not asking questions and just doing everything you said there’s no problem. Longest part for me was getting all my Ralts to have each nature and breeding for a 6 iv with 2 dittos who had 4 perfect ivs. Again thank you so much.

It took me a while but I finally understood you were saying Vitamins and not Bitter-mints. I was like, I never heard of bitter-mints in game. Where are those located?
In the Isle of Armor you can get a vending machine with watts and purchase the vitamins you need there for even less than the vitamins in the shop. I think you have to add them each individually into the vending machine via watts though. There is also a lady who can clean off all the EVs on a Pokémon (that you’ve already battled with and has gained EV points) so you can level up which EVs you would like to the max or just upgrade more EVs in general, this costs armor it’s ore I believe.

FYI: There is actually an exploit where you can basically skip the wait time for pokejobs making it the fastest way to ev train. 1. Get a pokemon with pokerus, give it one of the power items and put it into a 24 hr job of your stat choice. 2. Go to a den 3. select invite friends 4. press home and change the time and set it to the next day It will usually give you 96 EVs with no modifiers, with power item and pokerus you can max a stat (252) out by doing this once.
For someone completely new to anything you explained in this video, it was explained nicely and I understood most of it except for the part of EVs which i think you could have explained what it was and why it needs to be done and how to know which vitamin to get. Other than that great video.
You just have to breed a pokemon with that ability and it gives a chance for the offspring to have it. After you catch the hidden ability parent when you make eggs of that parent it isn't guaranteed to produce only hidden ability pokemon eggs, it only gives the chance those eggs can have the hidden ability since you can still get the non hidden ability version of it. You can't make eggs with the chance of the hidden ability if that parent doesn't have the hidden ability. It's about a 50/50 on the pokemons eggs having the hidden ability if that pokemon has only 2 Max possible abilities. An Example is corsola having either weak armor ability or the hidden ability cursed body, since that is only 2 Max abilities she can have it's a 50/50 roll. If it was a pokemon like Arcanine with the hidden ability who has 3 possible abilities in total you have a 1/3 chance the egg you make will be the hidden ability one.

@@SnunGod The mints don't actually change the nature of the Pokemon, so the Raltz will still synchro its original nature on to wild Pokemon. Mints actually just change your good/bad stat to be the same as the nature in question, while leaving the actual nature alone. Similarly, hypertrained IVs can't be bred down because the Pokemon still keeps its original IV in the stat and breeds that down, the hypertraining effectively causes your final stat to be "as if" you had a 31 IV.

Having 0 attack IVs is less about confusion and more about minimizing damage from Foul Play.
@@pizzashark7067 I didn't think about that but reducing damage from confusion can be helpful especially if that opponent uses Swagger.
Thank you I really wanted a 0 speed bronIbg fir a while now and finally know how to do it
Best explanation I've been able to find. Been playing Pokemon since Yellow on the game boy color but this is the first time I've bred for competitive play. Thanks for taking the time to make my life a lot easier!
A little more on abilities:
If you are looking to use a hidden ability, you'll need to use a hidden ability parent of the same species of Pokemon (an Impostor Ditto or other hidden ability father won't cut it) in order for the children to have hidden abilities.

@@christophemartin8201 Your problem seems to be that Cute Charm is Milotic's hidden ability. If you're looking for a Marvel Scale Milotic, you'll want to evolve a Swift Swim Feebas. @SKYLIXZ Yes, Egg-Moves.

i was breeding all day and wasn't getting 5iv Pokemon then i watched this and completely forgot about that dam destiny knot lol
hey sorry to bother you a month later but I wanted to ask if you know, I have a 4 perfect IV ditto and a 4 perfect IV timburr, timburr has everstone and the desired nature and ditto has the destiny knot, but I keep getting 4 perfect IVs at best on my bred pokemon.

*A couple things I want to point out:*
-You can get vitamins for 2BP each at the PC in Hammerlocke City
-The Poke Jobs can be exploited with the Watt farming technique and can also be boosted by the EV training items
*To elaborate on the second point*
Place your pokemon into a Poke Job and do the following:
1. Use a wishing stone to summon a max raid encounter
2. Select "Invite Players"
3. Hit the home button on your switch and go to the settings
4. Change the date to the next day and return to the game
5. Back out of the "invite players" menu
6. Go to a PC and take your pokemon back from their job
If for some reason the job isn't done just repeat the steps and try again. If this wasn't clear enough then lookup a Watt farming video.

Everstone just guarantees the nature of children will match the holder.
The jolly nature boosts speed and gives less sp. Atk
Natures are basically boons & banes (if you play Dungeons and Dragons, or any RPG).
It gives a +10% increase AND -10% decrease to any combination of the 6 stats:
HP
Atk
Def
Sp Atk
Sp Def
Spd
For example, a "Jolly" nature is +Spd/-Sp Atk.
This means that it increases the Speed stat by 10% while decreasing the Special Attack stat by 10%.
The full Nature chart is as goes:
Nature / Increases / Decreases
Adamant / AttackSp. / Atk
Bashful / Sp. Atk / Sp. Atk
Bold / Defense / Attack
Brave / Attack / Speed
Calm / Sp. Def / Attack
Careful / Sp. Def / Sp. Atk
Docile / Defense / Defense
Gentle / Sp. Def / Defense
Hardy / Attack / Attack
Hasty / Speed / Defense
Impish / Defense / Sp. Atk
Jolly / Speed / Sp. Atk
Lax / Defense / Sp. Def
Lonely / Attack / Defense
Mild / Sp. Atk / Defense
Modest / Sp. Atk / Attack
Naive / Speed / Sp. Def
Naughty / Attack / Sp. Def
Quiet / Sp. Atk / Speed
Quirky / Sp. Def / Sp. Def
Rash / Sp. Atk / Sp.Def
Relaxed / Defense / Speed
Sassy / Sp. Def / Speed
Serious / Speed / Speed
Timid / Speed / Attack
The Natures that increase/decrease the same stat like "Serious" (Speed/Speed) are Neutral natures and doesn't give any bonus nor disadvantages.

How do I breed a hidden ability over from another pokemon!
I put the video in favourites as this is the video that is short informative and literally straight to the point.
