- Today in part two of the restoration of my new shop we paint the walls and support beams! After 23 years of mechanic work the walls were yellow, covered in grease and dust, and straight up nasty. New paint restored them to a like-new condition and really brightened up the place!

Kudos to you and Dylan for volunteering to help.
Tip on pouring from a bucket.....turn it 180* and pour with spigot at the top, it won't burp and splash like it did. Same thing with pouring a quart of oil or gallon of coolant, have opening on the top.

Looks amazing! The little spray gun handle attachments for rattle cans are a life(forearm) saver for me. Invest in a couple of them if you plan on spray painting more often.
I remember when your neighbors went to the HOA about you working on molly in your driveway. Man, you have comes farther than anyone could have imagined, I don’t think you give yourself enough credit too. Congratulations on everything Caleb!!

I really like the old style feeling of the shop with the brick steps and metal beams. Ask of the shops people build these frauds are all brand new and generic. This is a goddamn shop that has been used for a long time and has now been revived in the modern style and it still has character. Congrats dude.

For the brick stairs if you wanted to you could basically make a wood cover for it where you can stain the wood and make it look like however you’d want.

A tip for future paint work. When using the 5 gal. buckets, before unscrewing the the small cap on the spout, pull it up and it extends about 2 inches above the lid surface (makes it easier to pour) and also take a punch or drill and put a small hole in the lid across from the spout to allow air to get in the bucket as your pouring (stops the splashing and makes it pour smooth). Then just cover the small hole with tape if you dont use it all. Looking good so far!

I know you are probably a little stressed about the work and money that’s going into this but I would like to say that (from our end) it was totally worth it. Seeing a clean shop that also looks cool is a relaxing environment to view and makes us want to revamp our own shops / garages.

I’ve heard that full gloss paint for workshops is the go to choice because it makes cleaning the walls super easy. Oil can’t stick to the walls as well if they are super shiny.
Makes for easier cleaning: Will be interesting to see how it ages with your use.

After all this work I hope that they give you credit on your rent or something. You took this place from dirty dump to a usable workspace.

In hindsight, I think I would have tackled this in reverse. Prep everything first. Sand everything, including the floor. Then paint the beams with the sprayer, then the walls, then finish with the floor. But then, hindsight is 20/20.
Although it was a hard slog, you'll feel way better working in this environment. Looking forward to seeing the LED lighting upgrade and all the tools in.

looks great, I recommend painting the bottom section maybe a gray or something maybe come 2 foot or so up off the ground, a lot of crap get splashed up onto the walls at that level and they get dirty quick
Sound treatment on the walls to help with that echo would be sick, loving what you've done with the shop so far!
When he puts in more equipment it will stop.
