- Today we start building the ultimate fabrication area in the back of the new shop! We install eight, 90W T8 LED lights, we build some awesome neon signs, we adjust the high bay LED lights, and setup more workbenches/cabinets. The shop is almost done!

If you want more ambient lighting you could put some of those 27 LED lights on top of the beams. With the ceilings being white it would reflect off and light it up a little more in different angles.

For your lighting.
The closer you place your overheads lights to the ground the brighter they will be but also the harsher your shadows will be. Think about a flashlight and moving your hand in front and away from it. LEDs are typically not very “specular” but if you place anything thing close enough to a source of light it will harshen the shadow.
The biggest difficulty you’ll face is when you reach editing and color correcting and have to balance for both the warmth of the front lights with the coolness of the rear. I’ll often times gel a light (a piece of cellophane that will warm or cool down a light source) to make it easier to match. That is cheaper than having bicolor lighting at a very sight reduction in amount of light.
Thirdly, banners act as what we call flags on a film set. They are large pieces of fabric that block off light in a particular area. Sometimes we want all the light. Sometimes we Flag off a section. For each banner you hang, you’re cutting the amount of light available. Light is a source of rays that bounce off subjects and the walls. The white floor and walls help, but you’re effectively darkening what all the light is there to do by hanging a ton of banners/flags.
If you do decide to keep the cooler lights, you should actually use them as the bulk of the lighting, then supplement and scatter out the larger overhead lights. That will give you more of a consistent color temperature and more even lighting. I’d also place them as high up as possible.
Lighting is so important. Can't even tell there are different color temps on film really, so no worries there. Neons are sick. Great work!

The angle grinder saga has come to an end. Crazy how much of an upgrade this shop has seen. The videos and projects are gonna be dope.
Hanging them banners up in the middle really makes look smaller. I think they would look so much better at the back on the walls. Honestly I would move them to the fab area at the back, it would help with the aesthetics of the room / space.

1st off, the shop is coming along great.
One idea on the pallet racks (having worked with pallets for a while now) is to remove the very bottom row of shelving (or move them up some) so you can actually store pallets under them like it the form of a crate engine or transmission. That way they can be out of the way and have a storage area for designated to them. I would also recommend getting a pallet jack for moving those pallets and you can find them for around $300 - $500.
Doing exhaust work, I would also recommend a metal pipe storage rack (you can get one from McMaster for $380 to help with storage room on the pallet racks

You could also put the light bars on the upside of a beam, it would lighten up the ceiling, giving nice ambient lighting without the harshness.
Everything is looking awesome, the rim shop neon fits perfectly above the shelves. I missed if you mentioned a plan for sound deadening in the shop? I've found that even full of cars I've got some pretty gnarly echo in my shop and was curious if you've gotten any recommendations

Put frosted window film on all the windows for privacy. You should do some security upgrades as well. Walk around the building and see all the weak points of entry. All off camera of course.

Nice job on the video. Really like the shop progress. Here’s a few suggestions for the space. 1. Get a custom neon sign of the shop name, or of your name in the fab area. 2. Since you have the lights over the fab area strung from the beams, you should put 2x4 boards and sheets of plywood over the beams, and make a separate area above the fabrication area, with a ladder going up to it. Could be used for storage, or a hangout space in the shop. Customize it your way. Regardless, bravo on the shop space. Makes me want to try and find a location of my own at some point. 👍

The lighting that comes off those neon signs alone is almost worth effort from waiting to build your new shop man. The rest is going to be sick. Good effort my guy.
First off, gosh I’m loving this shop. Second, screw LED lighting, bring back neons because damn that looks good.
The shop is looking great. The chop saw will help a lot but you should look into getting a bandsaw setup like Taylor Ray. It will help on smaller stuff and just make your life that much easier.

I recommend getting some smart plugs of choice (Homekit or Home Assistant, whichever is your choice) and plug in the lights into those. That way you'll always have easy light control with one tap of a switch. If no wifi, they make more "dumb" versions of switches that come with their own proprietary remotes. Makes coming and leaving the shop a smooth experience, and no need to run around the entire shop to flip them all on.

I like this shop build a lot more than most other ones, as this one seems a lot more budget friendly to an extent. You don't need custom lighting, or big fancy tools or something like that to have a proper workshop. I am definitely going to reference these videos again in the future when I can finally build my own shop as well

As long as the neons looks cool, they're probably not the best thing consumption-wise - but you can always replace them with led signs later :)

I highly recommend the Husky storage totes with the rubber seal. Waterproof and with the 6 latches it allows you to open it as tho it is hinged. Little pricey at $33 each but worth it.

Have yall thought about attaching a come-along to one of the higher support beams for pulling engines?? I know you're probably getting an engine hoist too, but with a come-along it'll lift the engine straight up, ya roll the car outta the way & drop the engine back down, attach it to an engine stand & you're good to GO!!😉🍻 Just some food for thought!😁

As a broke boi working with one car in a single car garage and the other in the driveway (in the winter might I add🥴) I’m jealous af. Having an organized shop with a properly set up fab area and lifts is goals lol. I just keep my welding gear and metal on a small cart at the front of my garage so I can move it around easy lmao
