It has to be exhausting having to feign innocence throughout these phone calls, when what you really want to do is complain about others fucking up the plan, and how stupid they are.

I really think Charlie is under a misguided belief that THESE phone calls can be used as evidence for a new trial or in an appeal, if he gets one. Self-serving hearsay.

Charlie is fixated on the showing up at the scene of the crime and the TV thing as being relevant in the verdict, jury's decision. What's not in his head is the fact that the hit man is Katy's kids father, Katy's man; and that Charlie's defense theory was ridiculous. So it was two common sense variables rather than Wendi, tv, scene of crime that convicted him. He's guilty and seems to forget this, preferring instead to re litigate the spice. The TV, scene of crime, and her book did though ensure against some freak result to the trial. But the case was/is already rock solid.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Why he doesn't even mention the most common sense clues is beyond me.
Right! All Wendi's fault, she screwed up their plan. LOL...I think she was supposed to go "close by" the scene but not close enough to be identified.

@@KAinFL I remember the first jail call to Donna that Charlie wondered abt why Wendi would drive close to the crime scene, Donna was unusually quiet and did not agree nor add any thoughts.. it made me think that it was Donna that suggested to Wendi to do a drive by to check. And Donna doesn’t want to tell Charlie it was her suggestion and get blamed by Charlie for doing this..

With Donna’s case open and investigation on going, I don’t think any of Donna’s calls will be released. The defense attorneys will claim jury could be potentially influenced, tainted prior to trial (?)

They did produce an email invitation with the Bulliet HOWEVER Wendi previously stated (I think in one of the previous trials) that it was written. The email was typed in a colored box on the top.

I can't help but think some of what Charlie is saying is hints for what Donna needs to work on if she ends up in jail (she did). I also think that he knows they are planning to leave the country. The assurance she gives him about hos child being cared for is one example. I believe they all had planned to flee if they learned the police were hot on their trail. He knew they were getting ready to flee. He even mentions Vietnam in one of the calls.

Even though it doesn't explain gun in the safe (I haven't heard that part and have listened several times) I believe he is saying he should have left the country and trying to get her and Harvey to go while they can
I believe that Charlie's "gut" was telling him that he had no plausible defense so he thought leaving the country would be a better way out. He said in one of his phone calls that people who were smarter than him told him to stay, but his gut told him to run, and he didn't listen to his gut.

I really thought I’d heard all of these recordings. I went through withdrawals after I’d listened to all of them at least five times. I’m so happy to have a new one, but I feel my habit kicking in again🤣. I am also more convinced than ever that the only reason Charlie can’t stop obsessing over what Wendi did is because she didn’t just “happen” to drive by on the way to the liquor store. Innocent until proven guilty, but I think, at least, she found out what they plotted and drove by to see if it was true or if she could stop it. I doubt we’ll ever know for sure, but what a great trial that would be with Charlie on the witness stand!!!
