    Thank you for reviewing Speechify. Very helpful! Voice Dream is a one-time purchase and seems much more capable.

      I had an app like that (with a one time payment) then the next year they changed it to a subscription and immediately I couldn't use it anymore so I don't fall for that anymore. Very upsetting

    My experience with the app has not been great. I think it is a good product but there are a lot of bugs especially in the iPhone version so the reading experience is not seamless. They don't have a free trial or a monthly version for now. Online reviews also communicate that they are not fair or transparent in their subscription. The free iPhone version is practically useless because of their aggressive marketing which pauses the audio after every 2-3 minutes. I don't see how someone who went to Brown doesn't understand that you cannot FORCE money out of customers for a long time. If your product is good, it will sell (but not by tricking customers).

      I am also inclined to believe after using this product for weeks now that many online reviews are paid by the company.

      I uninstalled it for this exact reason;
      The payment stuff was super shady, and sneaky af. 2023, no way i'm agreeing to anything payment shady. Still don't know how much it costs to subscribe. $300 per year? $12 month? Left it behind.

    I tried this as well and had the same issues with misspelled words. It doesn’t save me time if I have to take pictures of everything I want to read. And the subscription is confusing. I cancelled and I’m going to keep watching to see if the bugs get worked out and see if the price comes down.

    As a blind person, I installed Speachify on my phone, but could not even get passed the setup screen to choose voice and speed. i ahve no idea how to use this. It starts off good, reading to you, then it throws up a screen using bright blue that is impossible to see or use. I swiped something, I have no idea what.
    The ironic thing is, I can easily read the text myself that the apps is reading during setup, but as soon as it switches up and throws up some bizarre button situation, I can't see at hing. If they had just put a word in teh same white text I could of clicked on, I would fo been fine.

    Thanks for the review. It seems a lot sketchier then I was expecting it to be "I can only give speechify 4 out of 10 at the moment. If it's continually making little mistakes how useful is that going to be?" NOT useful enough if you are going to make that observation that that is how it is. Not willing to spend that much money on something like that. If it was a onetime purchase of $20 or $30 I might consider buying it just to play around with it even after hearing this review.

    Can you use the generated audio in video and audio productions? Speechify markets itself as a tool to help dyslexics, but if it doesn't help dyslexic content creators it shouldn't make that claim.

    • @mbacoachkaren
      @mbacoachkaren 2 года назад

      Yes, as a user of the free version, it does read web pages very well. Once you click on the Chrome extension, it will allow you to start reading text anywhere on the page. It's actually pretty good but it only allows for an annual subscription...too expensive even if it was monthly ($11.58). Could be a bit cheaper. There is a $30 discount, so $100 annually. Hope this helps!

      If the app is still having these issues, it is clear that they don't care about fixing it. This is really sad as I thought the idea behind it was brilliant, but the execution needed some work. I hope they can get it up and running better and stop charging for something that is broken.

      @@HolisticHealingChoices Well done to you for asking what would have made your demonstration better. I'm trying to use this app but getting frustrated with the lack of clear instruction. Its user-unfriendliness is a disaster. But even so, I thought your presentation mean and biased. You'd made up your mind before releasing the video and were using the demo to prove your point. In my opinion, the premium voices are completely amazing and better than other AI voices I've ever heard but you played them so speeded up as to kill that feature. You thought it would be most helpful for people in a hurry or in public transport, yes - you did mention people who are dyslexic but only in passing - but not the sight-impaired. An icon appears on your in-box - the app can read all your emails aloud to you. That's brilliant. You compared it to audio books, but that's not a true comparison. There are competing apps like Natural Reader that do a great job too and are much more user friendly but the voices aren't so natural. My biggest complaint with Speechify is their lack of user instruction. I've wasted a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out how to use it. But thank you for the video.

    • @HolisticHealingChoices
      @HolisticHealingChoices  2 года назад +4

      Thank you for such a great constructive criticism. You are right about the AI voices, they were great and sounded natural compared to a lot of alternatives. I will take what you said and think more about who these types of services would be for and there usability for those people in the future.
