Unpopular opinion: Obviously it's great that there is this tech Speechify offers to make information more accessible to people who are neurodivergent. A price tag for people in need isn't an equitable approach, for sure, but we need tech to exist and progress so that we can find what works and know more about leveraging the strengths of dyslexia. I'd argue that this is the first step toward the greater good before bringing it to our public systems. That's the arena for funding explicitly for equitable education. Society will be trying to progress with one arm behind its back if we wait for public funding to move dyslexia tech forward. This should exist in the public sector but I don't think these tools shouldn't exist elsewhere otherwise we are like crabs in a barrel pulling down efforts to advance the field. Omg I never thought I'd sound like such a capitalist 😅

Apple's built in voices are robotic and suck. Only problem I have with Speechify is their customer service is terrible. Other than that, it's a very innovative app.

I didn’t set up Siri on my iPad, because I didn’t think I would use it, but I may need to start using a medication I have used in the past that made my brain foggy when I read books, but there are no audiobooks for the series I am reading right now. Perhaps it’s the moon attacking my emotions, but this helps me so much I almost cried.

Is there a way to increase the speaking speed to more than 2x? I don't know how just once 2.5x speed was available, but as soon as I changed it and then tried to set it back to 2.5x the maximum was 2x again. Best would be up to 3x. Any idea?
While the current TTS on iOS 17 is perfect, I hope the AI improvements on iOS 18’s Siri would make the TTS more natural (like proper pauses between commas and full stops, or between paragraphs). Hopefully, they can add a proper Read Aloud action within the Apple Books app, I read a lot of classics with cross references, and modifying the TTS to exclude the superscripts would make for a better reading and listening experience

Kindle books has drm protection so you need to use the built in tts on your phone in the accessibility settings. This video shows how to do it on iPhone and iPad. I don’t use android.

Well this is only for apple devices but I’ve heard that there is text to speech for windows computers too but I don’t use windows so I really don’t know how.
It is nice that the Apple devices have this feature built in, but the voices are horribly robotic compared to the AI voices that are out now. Sadly those voices are not in any free apps, and they usually have to turn an ePub into a pdf which takes a few minutes before it starts reading.

What I like about Speechify is I can take a picture of something with text and it will read it out to me. I don’t know if the built-in Apple one does that but nothing is better than having Snoop Dogg. Read your text messages to you or read a book it is hilarious.
This is built in to iOS so you can use any app and do what I show. So either take a picture in Apple notes and have it read for you. Or install any scan app and do the same

Yes just open the pdf on your iPhone or iPad and do the same thing. Or you can also import the pdf into your kindle account and open it in the kindle app and do the same. I have a video on my channel on how to open pdf files in the kindle app.

Another is speech central that I use sometimes. But the problem with third party apps is that they are not allowed to use Apples Premium voices and only their extended ones.
Hi I’m a person with visual disabilities, and I rely on this iOs feature to read Web pages and documents. On my iPad Pro works pretty good, but in my iPhone 11 when I select a PDF file to hear it doesn’t work; Also, at times the Siri voice starts to sound hoarse and stutters a lot. It has iOS 17.2.1 and I’ve tried reseting all settings but the problems persist. How do I fix it? Thank you
You need to open the pdf in Apple Books or in the kindle app. I prefer the kindle app because you can choose how to format it then. The other problem with stutters I don’t have a solution for because I haven’t noticed that. Maybe you have an app in the background that takes over the audio . Maybe via a notification or something.

Well if you mean physical books, yes you can for example scan them with apple notes and then do what I show in the video. Or if you mean text books that are already in a digital format is also the answer yes.

I opened my e book, I swiped down the page, it just moved the page down, but it's not reading anything I held my finger over the words to select them, but it's still not reading anything I don't know what I'm doing wrong or how to get it to read these pages to me on my iPhone

What about when you need to take a picture of a book to read? My son is 15 and severely dyslexic.
This works in all apps. So if you take a picture of a book in for example Apple notes and then make it read it for you it does.

I haven’t used the open ai voices but I think the app is worth it. You can even use it to read news and blogs aloud.

@josemanuellastra2488 in the files app long press on the pdf file and choose “share to” and then choose Apple Books.

Import pdfs? I don’t understand? You can open any pdf, epub or other text file. Any doc you want. Unless they don’t are DRM protected.

I dont know what you did, but i tried to use two fingers three fingers and slide it in top of my screen but it didn’t do anything.
You must activate it in the settings first
This used to work greatly on my iPad until the last two updates, now it keeps stopping after two pages or so. No idea why this is happening.

I opened my e book, I swiped down the page, it just moved the page down, but it's not reading anything
I held my finger over the words to select them, but it's still not reading anything
